The Unraveling Room with Liv

Liv Rich

The Unraveling Room with Liv is a Christ-centered podcast for women who discovered as adults that they were adopted, and for the people who want to understand what that discovery can change. Hosted by Liv, a late-discovery adoptee, the show makes room for honest conversations about identity, family secrets, grief, anger, faith, medical history, DNA, reunion, boundaries, and the questions that do not come with easy answers. Liv shares from her own lived experience and welcomes adoptee voices and knowledgeable guests without pretending there is one right way to feel, respond, search, forgive, reunite, or move forward. This is a place to slow down, tell the truth, and take the next step without being rushed into silence or someone else’s version of healing. Scripture and faith are part of the conversation, but pain is not dismissed with quick answers. New episodes are released in intentional seasons. Entry 012 | Rebuilding After Adoption Discovery When Nobody Sees You

Hello Beautiful, If you've made it past the shock of adoption discovery and now you're standing in the quiet wondering... now what... this entry is for you. Today I'm sitting in something I don't hear people talk about much. The slow, unglamorous work of rebuilding after everything shifts. What it looks like when the grief settles and you're left with a regular Tuesday and a life that still needs tending. Rebuilding doesn't look like breakthroughs and revelations. It looks like rest. It looks like honesty. It looks like showing up for the people standing next to you even when you're still figuring yourself out. Nobody told me it would be this slow. But God promised He would finish what He started. And I'm holding onto that. Let's sit in this together. IN THIS ENTRY: Why rebuilding after adoption discovery is slower than you expectWhat it means to tend to your body when chronic illness is part of your storyHow discovery rewires the way you think, trust, and processWhat it looks like to rebuild faith from a more honest placeTending to your family while you're still in your own unravelingWhy I'm not pursuing reunion right now and why that decision belongs to you The difference between not being ready and not being willing SCRIPTURE REFERENCES: 1 Peter 5:10 "And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you."Psalm 23:3 "He restores my soul." Entry 011 | You're Allowed to Be Angry | Processing Rage After Adoption Discovery

Hello Beautiful, If you've been carrying anger that you don't know what to do with—anger that feels too big, too sharp, too "unchristian"—this entry is for you. Today, we're talking about the rage that lives underneath adoption discovery. The kind nobody warns you about. The kind that makes you feel guilty just for feeling it. But here's the truth: You're allowed to be angry. Not just frustrated. Not just disappointed. Angry. And feeling that anger doesn't make you ungodly. It makes you honest. Let's give it some air. IN THIS ENTRY:Why adoption discovery brings anger (and why that's not a character flaw)The survival pattern of burying rage because "good Christian women don't get angry"What the Bible actually says about anger (hint: it's not what the church often teaches)The difference between anger and bitterness—and why they're not the same thingHow to process rage without stuffing it or letting it consume youWhy you don't have to rush forgivenessA prayer for the woman carrying fury she didn't know she was allowed to feelSCRIPTURE REFERENCES:Ephesians 4:26 — "Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger."Psalm 13:1 — "How long, O Lord? Entry 010 | Why Adoption Discovery Makes You Question Where You Belong

Hello Beautiful, If adoption discovery made you question where you belong (in your family, your faith, or even your own skin), this entry is for you. Today we're talking about the survival pattern nobody warned you about: performing for belonging. Why it happens. How adoption discovery makes it worse. And what it actually means to rest in God's family without earning your place. You were never meant to audition for love. Not with your family. Not with God. And definitely not in your own heart. Let's unravel this together. IN THIS ENTRY:Why adoption discovery shakes your sense of belongingThe survival pattern of performing, proving, and perfectingHow secrecy teaches you that your place isn't guaranteedWhat Scripture says about your position in God's family (Ephesians 1:5, Romans 8:15)Why your nervous system keeps you in "earn your place" modeWhat it looks like to belong without performingA prayer for the woman who's tired of proving herself SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:Ephesians 1:5 "He predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will." Romans 8:15 "For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, 'Abba! Father!'" Entry 009 | When Your Body Remembers What Your Mind Tried to Forget

After adoption discovery, healing isn't just mental or spiritual—it's physical. Your body remembers what your mind tried to move past. The tension, the exhaustion, the anxiety that shows up without warning—it's not weakness. It's not spiritual failure. It's your body telling the truth. In this entry, we talk about: Why your body reacts even when your mind understands the truthHow survival patterns shaped your nervous system before you had wordsWhat God thinks about your physical responses (spoiler: He's not frustrated)Why unraveling isn't collapse—it's recalibrationHow to let God meet you exactly where your body is todayThis one's tender, sis. Go gently. Scripture ReferencedPsalm 34:18 "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." The story of the bleeding woman (Mark 5:25-34) Jesus didn't rush her. He stopped, saw her, and spoke peace over her body. Journal PromptWhere is my body holding what my mind is trying to release? Sit quietly. Notice your breath. Notice your shoulders. Your jaw. Your chest. Ask yourself: What am I bracing for right now? What does my body remember that I've been trying to forget? What would it look like to let God tend to this part of me without shame?Write honestly. No pressure to have answers. Just presence. Prayer for TodayFather, Thank You for being close to the brokenhearted—not just in spirit, but in body too. My body has been holding so much. Tension I can't name. Exhaustion I can't explain. Reactions I wish I didn't have. Help me see that this isn't failure. Help me trust that You're not frustrated with me. Help me believe that unraveling is not collapse—it's the beginning of something truer. Teach me how to be gentle with myself the way You are gentle with me. I don't have to rush this. I don't have to perform healing. I just have to be honest—and let You meet me here. In Jesus' name, Amen. TakeawayUnraveling is not failure. It's recalibration. Your body is not betraying you. It's protecting you. And God is not waiting for you to get it together—He's meeting you exactly where you are. Entry 007 | Coming to Terms with the Adoption Story I Believed

In this entry, I reflect on what it feels like to realize that the adoption story I believed for so long was not the full picture. I share how I once held an idealized understanding of adoption—not because I was naïve or in denial, but because that was the only perspective available to me at the time. Before I had the language, I trusted the story I was given. I built hopes, faith, and even my vision of family around it. This reflection explores the quiet recognition that comes when clarity arrives later in life—the grief of learning that what felt beautiful was not whole, the disorientation of re-seeing your past with new eyes, and the slow work of letting God meet you in that space. This is not an episode about conclusions or explanations. It’s a journal entry about belief, silence, timing, and what it means to hold your story differently as truth unfolds. If you’re finding yourself coming to terms with the story you were told—about your adoption, your family, or your beginnings—you’re not doing anything wrong. And if you’re not there yet, you’re not behind. Scripture referenced: John 16:12 🌿 About Unraveling ReflectionsUnraveling Reflections is a journal-style audio companion to The Unraveling Room with Liv, a faith-rooted space for late-discovery adoptee women navigating identity, truth, and belonging with God at the center. Each entry offers a place to sit with what’s surfacing, without rushing resolution or forcing meaning.

Entry 006 | Gratitude in the Middle of Late Discovery Adoption | When God Meets You in the Pieces

What does gratitude look like when your whole story shifts overnight? When the DNA results land, and suddenly the ground under your feet isn’t the same? In this episode, I'm speaking directly to Late Discovery Adoptee women who are trying to make sense of life after hidden truths come to the surface. This isn’t about pretending you’re okay or forcing a silver lining. This is about the kind of gratitude that grows in the questions, lives in the unraveling, and whispers its way into your heart while you’re still picking up the pieces. Together, we explore: Why gratitude doesn’t wait for perfect outcomes, answers, or apologiesHow God meets you in the middle of the “not yet” and the “I don’t know”The steady rhythm of Psalm 136 and what it means for adoptees navigating fractured lineagesThe difference between gratitude for circumstances vs. gratitude for God’s characterWhat it looks like to trust God with pieces of your story that never should’ve been hidden This episode is for you if: You’re a Late Discovery Adoptee woman still piecing together who you are after discovering the truth about your origins — especially if you’re grieving the life you thought you had, carrying anger you don’t know what to do with, or learning how to build identity on something more solid than secrecy and silence. You don’t need a complete story to be grateful. You don’t need all the answers to trust God. You just need a faithful Father who has never been confused about who you are. 📖 Scripture MentionedPsalm 136:1 — “O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever.” 🧡 ABOUT THE UNRAVELING ROOM The Unraveling Room is a faith-rooted space for Late Discovery Adoptee women navigating identity, grief, and healing after discovering hidden truths about their origins.
