The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover

The gals were in heat, speechless, and dumbfounded while watching The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover by Peter Greenaway, 1989 on a rare DVD no less. They touch on Emma's rollercoaster adventure to Costa Rica, Clare's obsession with Tim Roth, how wealth does not buy you taste or manner, and the fact that Jean Paul Gautier is the most singular costume designer film has ever seen.  If you'd like to join the Cinema Club (think a book club but for film), sign up at www.emrogering.com/podcast to get the latest updates on upcoming screenings followed by a live podcast recording Q&A starting in NYC. Yes

The gals were actually stunned, moved to silence, and then sobbing while watching Yes written and directed by Sally Potter released in 2004 starring Joan Allen, Simon Abkarian, Sam Neil, and Shirley Henderson as the philosophical maid. They touch on torrid love affairs, the ethics of filmmaking, the mind of Natalie Wynn of ContraPoints, the ending of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, getting fingered in a booth, and how men are essentially color blind…let that sink in.  follow @special_features_pod , @emrogering , @claremaceda  Warning: This podcast is rated NC-17. Beast

The gals were guffawing, gripped, and gagged while watching the disturbing romantic psychological thriller, Beast (2017) directed by Michael Pearce. They touch on the beauty and danger of small town isolation, their admiration for a kiss, the dark side of desire, the power of aging, feeling viscerally connected to Jessie Buckley, and are currently still torn over Johnny Flynn.  Warning: This podcast is rated NC-17. Pam Bondi (with a touch of Perfume)

The gals were incensed and disgusted while watching the Pam Bondi hearing and then Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006) directed by Tom Tykwer. They touch on public executions, gifts, Paris fashion, their obsession with period pieces, the power of scent, and how they would kill the theatrics of the oversight committee.  Warning: This podcast is rated NC-17. If you are are under the age of 18, a family member of Clare or Emma's, or are triggered by explicit language do not listen to this! Lady Chatterley's Lover

The gals were quite frankly moaning while watching Lady Chatterley's Lover recently re-adapted to screen in 2022 based on the legendary, way ahead of it's time novel by D.H. Lawrence (originally published in Italy, 1928) that was banned for decades and faced an obscenity trial in 1960 for pushing the boundaries of literary and societal taboos. They touch on the use of prosthetics, young love, tenderness, the treasure that is Jack O'Connell, suspenders, stockings, bloomers, and the delicate dynamics of class.  Feel free to support the show by shopping at www.emrogering.com/shop for merch.  Warning: This podcast is rated NC-17. They touch on 2011...politically, childhood crushes (inappropriate and otherwise), red rooms, lobotomies, the sensuality of pinky rings, and starting their local militia.  follow @special_features_pod , @emrogering , @claremaceda for more!
