If trans people are allowed to exist, we pose a direct threat to the story they've been telling us about people's "role" in society for thousands of years. Naturally, it becomes necessary, in order to maintain power, to paint us out as "freaks" and "mentally ill," instead of just "people with a slight variation in gender and possibly biology from other people." Every colonizer targeted trans people FIRST. Today, we're seeing that fight play out again, with politicians of BOTH parties running campaigns on being anti-trans or at least vaguely "not pro-trans." It was a winning strategy for MAGA in 2024, so they're pulling out all the stops (and many many millions of dollars) to try to repeat history.

Recently, Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White (who have incredibly valid DV/abuse against women accusations against them) have declared themselves eligible to be drafted by the WNBA! The problem is, they are not the masterminds behind this gambit--there is an entire industry behind weaponizing fear of trans people that has taken center-stage in our world, and the Heritage Foundation and the masterminds of the MAGA movement are moving quickly (and surprisingly intelligently) to push forward news stories and lawsuits that end with one clear goal: strip women of all rights and return us to an age before the 1920s.

Even a lot of trans people (especially the newly-out) harbor some quiet transphobic resentments and beliefs (some of those 'oh but you're not one of the GOOD trans people' or 'you're doing trans WRONG' people). But casual transphobia is NOT the same thing as being a TERF--a lesson that Laura learned all too well during the week of the Drew Afualo discourse (remember when we were all talking about whether or not trans women have a 'more beautiful' relationship with womanhood?), when a number of her favorite feminists took off their masks and revealed the deep-seated transmisogyny that they harbored within, along with secret conservatism, racism, and a whole host of other views that tend to group together to create the tapestry of TERFdom.

The thing is... they're feeling unmoored. And if someone on the left doesn't find them, some grifter on the right WILL. She helped educate him on the truth about capitalism and socialism, and how MAGA and conservatives have weaponized fear and hatred of people who are doing no harm (trans people, immigrants, etc) to continue to get away with their particular brand of fascism. Trans women experience a new, full form of that ire, because they're perceived as women but ALSO--cis men feel like it's socially acceptable to harm them, because they're "really a man," and because of the rhetoric around trans people generally, men believe they're "protecting real women" from trans women when they hurt them. Whether it's violence at the hands of men, or casual, everyday hatred from cis men and women alike, trans women experience TRANSMISOGYNY, an intersection of misogyny and transphobia. In this episode, Chloe breaks down a number of terrifying experiences with transmisogyny (including several instances where men tried to unalive her) and how it impacts her day-to-day life, both in reality and online. She's taked less seriously, her feelings and experiences are dismissed, and no matter what she does, the majority of people simply refuse to treat her like a human being.

Humans love to think of themselves as being separate from the natural world, but we, too, are just animals, and our place in the natural world of evolution and science holds the key to so many mysteries that we haven't even begun to scratch the surface of. Trans people exist, just like turtles, frogs, birds, butterflies, trees, fish, lions, mice, and SO many other creatures that are capable of doing things you wouldn't even believe.

We sometimes define our womanhood in opposition to it, rather than by defining it on its own terms. When you're raised in a misogynistic world, it's easy to internalize some of the ideas about what "femininity" and "womanhood" are SUPPOSED to look like, and unfortunately a lot of times that means trauma. SA. DV. Boiling our entire identities down to whether or not we're able to reproduce or conceive children. And that's what patriarchy wants from us. In today's discussion, we break down how trans women and cis women alike are affected by misogyny and how we need to unlearn those beliefs in order to grow into the fullness of our feminine power.
