022: What to Consider When Sober Curious

This episode is for the woman who isn’t at rock bottom, isn’t out of control, and isn’t even sure she has a problem… …but feels a quiet nudge that something about her relationship with alcohol no longer feels aligned. I recorded this episode because of my own lived experience with alcohol—and because I kept noticing how many other women were quietly questioning theirs too. This episode is airing around the Christmas–New Year period, when conversations about Dry January and sobriety tend to surface, but what I share here goes much deeper than a 30-day challenge. This is not an anti-alcohol lecture. I’m not here to tell you to stop drinking or to shame you for enjoying a glass of wine. I’m here to help you understand what alcohol may be doing for you—emotionally and biochemically—so you can make choices from awareness instead of white-knuckling or self-judgment. 🎧 In this episode, you’ll learn:Why most women who struggle with alcohol don’t fit the stereotype of “alcoholic”The emotional reasons women reach for alcohol: overwhelm, loneliness, exhaustion, and disconnectionHow alcohol functions as emotional relief, stimulation, dissociation, or numbingWhy craving alcohol is often a signal, not a flawThe difference between emotional craving and biochemical cravingHow alcohol damages the gut microbiome and drives anxiety, low mood, and blood sugar swingsThe key nutrients depleted by alcohol: B vitamins, vitamin C, magnesium, and healthy fatsWhy burnout and adrenal depletion make alcohol especially tempting in the eveningThe four brain pathways alcohol temporarily manipulates: GABA, dopamine, endorphins, and serotoninWhy white-knuckling sobriety rarely worksWhat actually helps when you’re stepping away from alcoholWhat to expect emotionally and physically when you stop drinkingWhy symptoms coming up doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong ⏱️ Timestamps:00:00 Introduction to The Real Remedy 00:28 Personal Struggles with Alcohol 01:08 Curiosity About Alcohol and Dry January 01:35 Emotional and Physical Aspects of Alcohol Cravings 05:45 Biochemistry of Craving Alcohol 12:59 Physical Health and Alcohol 18:12 Brain Pathways and Alcohol Desire 24:48 Challenges and Tips for Quitting Alcohol 26:52 Conclusion and Support Resources 🔗 Connect with Elizabeth:Website: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elizabetho.neillExplore The Real Remedy: https://elizabeth-oneill-wellness.thrivecart.com/realremedy/Work with Elizabeth: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/work-with-me 🔗 From This Episode:014: Will Vitamin D help your winter blues https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/014-will-vitamin-d-help-your-winter-blues/id1831109345?i=1000735370573 018: Your Exhaustion Isn’t From Doing Too Much… It's From One Thing You’re Not Doing Part 1 https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/018-your-exhaustion-isnt-from-doing-too-much-its-from/id1831109345?i=1000739478890 019: Your Exhaustion Isn’t From Doing Too Much… It's From One Thing You’re Not Doing Part 2 https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/019-your-exhaustion-isnt-from-doing-too-much-its-from/id1831109345?i=1000740622804 Additional Reading: 💌 Want more like this?Subscribe to The Real Remedy Podcast and leave a review if this resonated with you. 021: Choosing Presence Over Panic Part 2

This episode may be activating for some people. And if it is, I want you to stay. In Part 1, I shared what happened when my scan results changed and how I chose presence over panic. In this second part, I go deeper into why I relate to cancer the way I do—and what this moment has asked me to look at, emotionally and physically. Cancer has never come into my life to punish me or tell me I “did something wrong.” It came as a redirection. A messenger pointing to the ways I had been silencing myself, people-pleasing, carrying rejection, and erasing my own needs. And this time, instead of spiraling or dissociating, I chose to stay with myself and listen.  This episode isn’t about cancer alone. It’s about any moment where life hands you something you didn’t choose—and the decision you always get to make in that moment: abandon yourself, or stay rooted in your body and truth. 🎧In this episode, you’ll learn:Why I don’t believe cancer came to kill me, but to redirect meThe lineage patterns on my maternal line and what they reveal about women carrying too muchThe difference between fear and making decisions from fearWhy this has been the hardest year of my life—and why my body speaking up makes senseHow physical symptoms are often the final signal of emotional overloadWhy emotional healing must come before physical improvementWhat it means to stay in your body instead of dissociating or numbing outHow to face hard moments without needing to be fearlessWhy daily practice (not willpower) trains you to stay present in crisisHow sovereignty and rootedness make clear decisions possibleWhy I’m choosing not to share clinical details—and what actually is supportive for healing ⏱️Timestamps:00:00 Introduction to The Real Remedy 00:21 A Personal Battle with Cancer 01:51 The Physical and Emotional Toll 04:21 Facing Life's Challenges 06:54 Staying Rooted and Making Choices 11:21 Closing Thoughts and Next Steps 🔗Connect with Elizabeth:Website: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elizabetho.neillExplore The Real Remedy: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/masterclassWork with Me: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/work-with-me 🔗From This Episode:006: What it really takes to feel safe enough to heal https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/006-what-it-really-takes-to-feel-safe-enough-to-heal/id1831109345?i=1000725861082 💌 Want more like this?Subscribe to The Real Remedy Podcast and leave a review if this resonated with you. 020: Choosing Presence Over Panic Part 1

Today’s episode is deeply personal. I’m sharing what happened at my most recent oncology checkup—the scan, the tests, the moment when routine turns into something you didn’t choose. In November, I received news that my cancer had progressed. And while this episode is about my experience, it’s also for anyone who has ever received unexpected health news, a diagnosis, or a moment that split life into before and after. This conversation isn’t about fear. It’s about presence. It’s about what happens in your body when life delivers something you didn’t ask for—and the choice you always have in that moment: to abandon yourself, or to stay. 🎧In this episode, you’ll learn:The moment I knew something had changed—before anyone said a wordWhat it feels like when your body knows before your mind catches upWhy I didn’t spiral, panic, or hand my authority over to anyone elseThe difference between feeling fear and making decisions from fearWhy my body—not medicine, not panic, not prognosis—has always been my authorityHow cancer has never been my enemy, but a messengerWhat it means to stay present instead of dissociating in moments of shockWhy diagnoses are often invitations to redirection, not punishment ⏱️Timestamps:00:00 Introduction to The Real Remedy 00:22 Personal Story: The Scan and Checkup 00:55 Diagnosis and Initial Treatment 02:30 Living with Cancer: A Personal Journey 03:18 The Unexpected News 09:22 Reflections on Cancer and Life 15:11 Conclusion and Final Thoughts 🔗Connect with Elizabeth:Website: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elizabetho.neillExplore The Real Remedy: https://elizabeth-oneill-wellness.thrivecart.com/realremedy/Work with Elizabeth: https://elizabeth-o-neill-wellness-1.showit.site/ig-links?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaf7LsdBx6LfIgSBVnlh9zWZKa80lcLNU1LP6eV05gFhGbOo67w7SNBk5n-AyQ_aem__ExOLY3xoq99oBd03yZ3PQ 💌 Want more like this?Subscribe to The Real Remedy Podcast and leave a review if this resonated with you. 019: Your Exhaustion Isn’t From Doing Too Much… It's From One Thing You’re Not Doing Part 2

This is Part 2 of a conversation so many women need to hear—because your exhaustion isn’t coming from overdoing… it’s coming from undernourishing. In Part 1, I walked you through how burnout often shows up in the very women who look the most “capable”: the perfectionists, the people-pleasers, the high-functioners, the moms, the strong ones. And today, I’m taking you deeper into why feeding yourself—literally—is one of the most foundational acts of healing you can offer your body. If you’ve ever wondered why hunger doesn’t register for you anymore… why you can go all day without eating… or why feeding yourself feels like an afterthought, this episode will help you understand exactly what’s going on inside your body and what it needs from you now. 🎧 In this episode, you’ll learn:Why hunger shuts down when you’ve been underfed for too longHow your body “downgrades” its needs when you don’t meet themThe emotional roots of under-eating: control, perfectionism, safety, and self-neglectWhy people-pleasers and high-functioning women are especially vulnerableHow the wellness world creates fear around food and drives women to skip mealsWhy supplements, saunas, detoxes, and coffee enemas can never replace actual foodThe link between under-eating and feeling unsupported, unheard, or unheld in your lifeHow feeding yourself consistently brings your true self back onlineThe exact starting steps if meals feel overwhelming or “too much” right now ⏱️ Timestamps:00:00 Introduction to The Real Remedy 00:19 Personal Struggles with Hunger 00:59 Understanding the Vicious Cycle 01:32 Challenges in Changing Eating Habits 02:47 Emotional and Psychological Factors 04:13 The Importance of Proper Nutrition 13:04 Practical Tips for Consistent Eating 15:02 The Connection Between Food and Self-Care 18:51 Final Thoughts and Encouragement 19:56 Conclusion and Next Steps 🔗 Connect with Elizabeth:Website: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elizabetho.neillExplore The Real Remedy: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/masterclassWork with Elizabeth: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/work-with-me 🔗 From This Episode:003: Why Your Hair Is Falling Out (And What Minerals Have To Do With It) https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/003-why-your-hair-is-falling-out-and-what-minerals/id1831109345?i=1000722779082 💌 Want more like this?Subscribe to The Real Remedy Podcast and leave a review if this resonated with you. 018: Your Exhaustion Isn’t From Doing Too Much… It's From One Thing You’re Not Doing Part 1

Most women I work with believe their exhaustion comes from doing too much. But what if the real reason you’re burned out isn’t overdoing—it’s under-nourishing? In this episode (the first of a two-part series), I’m sharing the one thing I see nearly every woman in burnout neglecting—whether she’s a perfectionist, a people-pleaser, a mom, or the “strong one” everyone relies on. And it’s not what you think. We’ll talk about how the “capable woman” archetype leads to self-neglect, why most women in burnout are literally underfed, and how skipping meals or ignoring hunger isn’t discipline—it’s disconnection. 🎧 In this episode, you’ll learn:Why chronic burnout isn’t just about stress—it’s about being underfedThe missing link between food, hormones, blood sugar, and emotional regulationHow under-eating amplifies anxiety, irritability, and adrenal fatigueThe hidden ways high-functioning women starve themselves of energy (without realizing it)Why perfectionists and people-pleasers are especially prone to meal neglectThe emotional and physiological consequences of not feeding yourself consistentlyHow to begin reintroducing nourishment in small, realistic ways ⏱️ Timestamps:00:00 Introduction to The Real Remedy 01:24 Understanding Burnout 03:15 The Importance of Proper Nutrition 03:59 Real-Life Examples of Nutritional Neglect 08:09 The Impact of Nutrition on Hormones and Mood 11:10 Personality Types Prone to Nutritional Neglect 15:34 Conclusion and Final Thoughts 🔗 Connect with Elizabeth:Website: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elizabetho.neillExplore The Real Remedy: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/masterclassWork with Elizabeth: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/links 💌 Want more like this?Subscribe to The Real Remedy Podcast and leave a review if this resonated with you. 017: Adrenal Fatigue What it is and How to Heal it

If you’ve ever hit a wall of exhaustion you can’t sleep, eat, or coffee your way out of—this episode is for you. Today, I’m talking about one of the most misunderstood conditions in modern health: adrenal fatigue. While some doctors still insist it “doesn’t exist,” more than 80% of people are living with some level of adrenal dysfunction—and many don’t even realize it. This episode is deeply personal to me because I’ve experienced adrenal burnout twice: once before my cancer diagnosis and again during recovery. Both times, I had to rebuild my system from the ground up. What I learned is that adrenal fatigue isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s your body’s way of saying, “I can’t keep up with the pace you’re asking me to.” 🎧In this episode, you’ll learn:What adrenal fatigue actually is—and why traditional medicine often dismisses itHow long-term stress, motherhood, and emotional suppression deplete your adrenalsThe 4 stages of adrenal dysfunction and how to know which one you’re inThe most common symptoms: wired-but-tired energy, disrupted sleep, sugar and salt cravings, low motivation, and burnoutWhy this is about nourishment, not discipline—why pushing harder makes things worseThe key pillars of recovery: blood sugar stability, mineral replenishment, circadian rhythm repair, and restHow to begin healing safely (and why I often ban exercise for the first few weeks)The deeper emotional link behind burnout: defeatism and the belief that things “never quite work out” Key Symptoms: Persistent fatigue: Feeling tired all day, even after a full night’s sleep.Difficulty waking: Struggling to get up in the morning; needing caffeine to function.Mid-afternoon energy crashes: Feeling most fatigued between 2–4pm.Brain fog and poor concentration: Trouble focusing or staying alert.Sleep disturbances: Trouble falling or staying asleep, often waking around 2–4am.Cravings for salt and sugar: A common sign of nutrient depletion and blood sugar dysregulation.Weakened immune function: Frequent colds, flu, or infections.Increased reliance on stimulants: Regular use of coffee or energy drinks to cope.Mood changes: Irritability, anxiety, or low mood related to hormonal imbalances. ⏱️Timestamps:00:00 Introduction to The Real Remedy 00:25 Understanding Adrenal Fatigue 02:00 Personal Experience with Adrenal Fatigue 02:42 Adrenal Aid Course Overview 03:56 Medical Perspective on Adrenal Fatigue 06:11 Causes and Development of Adrenal Fatigue 12:28 Symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue 16:36 Healing and Recovery Strategies 17:27 Adrenal Aid Course Details 22:25 Conclusion and Final Thoughts 🔗Connect with Elizabeth:Website: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elizabetho.neillExplore The Real Remedy: https://elizabeth-oneill-wellness.thrivecart.com/realremedy/Work with Elizabeth: https://elizabeth-o-neill-wellness-1.showit.site/ig-links?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaf7LsdBx6LfIgSBVnlh9zWZKa80lcLNU1LP6eV05gFhGbOo67w7SNBk5n-AyQ_aem__ExOLY3xoq99oBd03yZ3PQ 🔗From This Episode:Get 50% Off The Adrenal Aid Course (until Dec 1st) For Black Friday: https://elizabeth-oneill-wellness.thrivecart.com/adrenal-aid-2025/ 💌 Want more like this?Subscribe to The Real Remedy Podcast and leave a review if this resonated with you. 016: When Kindness Stops Working

Have you ever thought to yourself, “I’m so kind. I do everything for everyone. Why does it still feel like no one sees me?” If so, this episode is for you. Because here’s the truth: sometimes what we call kindness… isn’t kindness at all. It’s compliance. It’s a nervous system pattern rooted in people-pleasing, overgiving, and confusing self-erasure with safety. In this episode, I unpack what’s really happening when “being kind” starts to drain you instead of fulfilling you—and how your body keeps the score when you keep betraying your own needs in the name of love, spirituality, or doing “the right thing.” 🎧In this episode, you’ll learn:The difference between true kindness and complianceHow people-pleasing disguises itself as being “helpful” or “spiritual”Why chronic over-giving leads to emotional burnout and physical symptomsHow your body registers self-betrayal as a constant stress signalThe connection between over-giving and magnesium depletion, thyroid suppression, and fatigueWhy saying no is one of the most healing things you can do for your body and your relationshipsHow to start noticing when your body says no even while your mouth says yes ⏱️Timestamps:00:00 Introduction to The Real Remedy 00:47 When Kindness Stops Working 02:12 The Emotional Labor of Kindness 03:25 The Impact on Your Health 04:09 Understanding Compliance vs. Kindness 05:30 Root Causes and People Pleasing 08:00 The Physical and Emotional Toll 17:42 Steps to Break the Cycle 20:40 Reflection and Moving Forward 24:18 Conclusion and Resources 🔗Connect with Elizabeth:Website: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elizabetho.neillExplore The Real Remedy: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/masterclassWork with Elizabeth: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/links 🔗From This Episode:The Body Belief Map: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/body-belief-map 💌 Want more like this?Subscribe to The Real Remedy Podcast and leave a review if this resonated with you. 015: Let’s Do a Deeper Vitamin D Dive

In last week’s episode, I talked about how shorter days and darker mornings can affect your mood and rhythm—and why “just take Vitamin D” isn’t the magic fix we’ve been sold. This week, we’re going deeper. Because if you’ve ever wondered why your Vitamin D levels seem to plummet every winter, or if supplementing actually helps, this episode will completely shift the way you look at Vitamin D and your body’s chemistry. I’ll walk you through how Vitamin D really works inside your body, why some people can’t store it even after a summer in the sun, and how blind supplementation can actually slow your thyroid and drain your minerals. 🎧In this episode, you’ll learn:How Vitamin D is metabolized through your liver, kidneys, and adrenals—and why you need all three to make it usableThe surprising reason your body might not be storing Vitamin D even if you get plenty of sunlightWhy fat intake, magnesium, bile flow, and gut health all determine your Vitamin D statusThe risks of supplementing blindly: how Vitamin D can lower potassium, sedate your adrenals, and slow thyroid functionHow to know if you personally need Vitamin D using an HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis)The specific calcium-to-phosphorus ratio that tells you whether to supplement or notWhy this winter slump is really a reflection of your summer mineral health—and how to fix it for next year ⏱️Timestamps:00:00 Introduction to The Real Remedy Podcast 00:24 Seasonal Mood Changes and Vitamin D 01:48 Understanding Vitamin D Metabolism 04:24 The Role of Liver and Kidneys in Vitamin D Conversion 09:09 Impact of Vitamin D on Hormones and Health 13:03 Determining Your Need for Vitamin D Supplementation 14:58 Conclusion and Next Steps 🔗Connect with Elizabeth:Website: https://elizabeth-oneill.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elizabetho.neillExplore The Real Remedy: https://elizabeth-oneill-wellness.thrivecart.com/realremedy/Work with Elizabeth: https://elizabeth-o-neill-wellness-1.showit.site/ig-links?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaf7LsdBx6LfIgSBVnlh9zWZKa80lcLNU1LP6eV05gFhGbOo67w7SNBk5n-AyQ_aem__ExOLY3xoq99oBd03yZ3PQ 🔗From This Episode: 014: Will Vitamin D help your winter blues: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/014-will-vitamin-d-help-your-winter-blues/id1831109345?i=1000735370573 Cod Liver Oil: https://amzn.to/3JwICmu Watch The Masterclass: https://elizabethoneillwellness.easywebinar.live/event-registration-2 💌 Want more like this?Subscribe to The Real Remedy Podcast and leave a review if this resonated with you.
