I’m Hannah, and each week I’ll be joined by a co-host as we walk you through a true crime case or spooky story.     The Naga Fireballs

    Welcome to the first Spooky B*tch Sprint! In this episode, Hannah tells Bob about the Naga Fireballs. The Naga Fireball Festival occurs every October in Thailand to celebrate the mystical glowing balls that shoot up from the Mekong River. Legend has it the Naga, which are giant serpents that live in the river, shoot up these fireballs every year in celebration of the end of Vassa, a Buddhist tradition. There are multiple theories for why this phenomenon might occur including flammable gases, Laos soldiers firing flares, or that it’s just a hoax. But we at Spooky B*tch Walk like to think it’s the Naga sending up fireballs of joy.  CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains strong language.     The Death of Baby Annabelle: The Skylar Richardson Story

    In 2017, Skylar Richardson was a senior in high school. She had struggled with an eating disorder in the past so her parents were pleasantly surprised when she started gaining weight. She looked happy and healthy. Skylar was popular and had a boyfriend. Her mom insisted Skylar get on birth control if she was going to have a serious boyfriend so she scheduled an appointment with a doctor. During this appointment, her mom stayed in the waiting room and Skylar went back by herself. When she came out of her appointment, it was clear Skylar had been crying but her mom didn’t ask any questions.  What Skylar’s parents didn’t know was that Skylar was keeping a big secret: she was pregnant and was due around the time of her senior prom. Skylar delivered her baby by herself in the bathroom at home and when she discovered that the baby wasn’t breathing, she buried her in the backyard of the Richardson home and told no one.  Once this was discovered, Skylar was accused of murdering her baby which she emphatically denied. After an interrogation where she was seemingly coerced into confessing that she had burned her baby, she was arrested and brought to trial. Luckily, the jury was able to see who Skylar really was and acquitted her of the murder and manslaughter charges.  CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains discussions of infant death and abuse of a corpse.     The Beautiful Life and Senseless Murder of Sasha Krause

    Sasha Krause was just 27 years old when she was abducted and senselessly murdered. She lived in a Mennonite community in Farmington, New Mexico, where she taught Sunday school. She lived a peaceful and pious life. She loved to write poems and hymns and would have continued writing and sharing her goodness with the world if her life hadn’t been cut short by a selfish monster.  Mark Gooch had been raised in a Mennonite community in Wisconsin. When he turned 18, he joined the Air Force which goes against the Mennonite faith. Supposedly, he held a grudge against the Mennonite community and wanted to bring them down. This thirst for vengeance is what led him to start surveilling the Mennonite community in Farmington and led him to randomly choose Sasha as his first victim. Luckily, he was caught right away before he could murder anyone else, but the damage had already been done for Sasha’s family and friends.  Come along with Hannah and her mom as they discuss recorders, crank windows, and how we need more peace in the world.   CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains discussions of abduction and homicide.     Pascagoula Alien Abduction

    On October 11, 1973, Charlie Hickson and Calvin Parker were fishing on the Pascagoula River after a long shift at the shipyard. Everything was going smoothly, until suddenly, they both heard a “zipping” noise behind them and saw bright blue lights. They turned around and saw some sort of craft hovering about the ground. Then, three beings came out of the craft and grabbed each man by the arm and brought them on their spaceship. The two men were then separated and put in different rooms where they were scanned by different devices. They were both unable to move as if these beings had paralyzed them. Then, the beings took the men off their ship and placed them back where they had found them.  Charlie and Calvin didn’t know what to do. At first, they agreed to not tell anyone what had happened to them. However, when they started driving away, Charlie thought of his family and worried that maybe these beings were coming back to attack. He decided he had to tell the authorities. So Charlie and Calvin went to the police station to give a statement. The police didn’t believe them at first, but after leaving the two men in a room with a hidden recording device and listening to their conversation when they thought no one could hear them, the police definitely believed them.  Charlie and Calvin were both traumatized by this event, but Calvin even more so than Charlie. This haunted him for years and years. It took him 18 years before he finally opened up to his wife about this experience. After this, he felt stronger and more prepared to share his stories with others as well.  Both men have passed away, but they both stuck to the same story until the day they died.     Friendly Postal Worker Murdered While Delivering Mail

    In October 2021, Jason Schaefer was delivering mail on his typical mail route in Longmont, CO, when someone walked up to him and shot him in the face. Despite first responders’ best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. By the end of the day, police had arrested someone for his murder. This person was Devan Schreiner.  Jason and Devan had dated in the past and shared a son but were no longer together. Two days before the murder, Jason had filed for full custody, and investigators soon discovered that Jason had been dating Devan’s sister. Devan had a motive, but police needed hard evidence. Luckily, almost everyone has some sort of camera on their house, and police are able to collect this footage from houses in the area as evidence. As if this wasn’t enough, Devan is also a mail carrier and her mail scanner had been inactive for about an hour during the time of Jason’s murder.  All of this evidence points to Devan, but detectives were also able to collect enough evidence to implicate Devan’s boyfriend, AJ  Ritchie, in the murder as well.     The Strength of Karoline Borega: How She Overcame the Disgusting Crimes of Her Husband

    Karoline Borega had been married to Joel Kern for over 20 years when she discovered her husband had been living a secret double life. Joel was a highly respected officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department. He continued to climb the ladder in his career and was scheduled to become the Public Information Officer (PIO). He came home one day and told Karoline he had gotten in an argument with the chief of police which resulted in him taking away the PIO position from Joel. Karoline didn’t understand. Joel never got in arguments with anyone, especially not his boss. She would later find out that Joel was under investigation with Internal Affairs and as a result could not move into the PIO role.  Eventually, Joel can’t hide his transgressions from his wife any longer and has to come clean. He ends up going to rehab for a sex addiction in order to save his job and possibly his marriage. While he was there, Karoline digs into their phone records and discovers even more information confirming Joel had been and was continuing to lie to her. This was the final straw and she filed for divorce.  Karoline and her children have been able to move forward with their lives and be successful in spite of Joel.     “Craziest, Stupidest, Deadliest Catfishing Scheme You Have Ever Seen”

    Bill Payne and Billie Jean Hayworth were murdered in their home while Billie Jean was holding their 7 month old baby in her arms. Investigators wondered who could possibly be so cold blooded that they would kill a mother holding her baby? As they interviewed Bill and Billie Jean’s friends and family, one name kept coming up: the Potters.  Barbara and Buddy Potter’s daughter, Jenelle, had been accusing Bill and Billie Jean of harassing and threatening her for months. Despite there being no evidence that this was actually happening, Jenelle was able to convince her parents and boyfriend, Jamie Curd, that it was. She was even able to convince them that they were communicating with a CIA agent through her email.  Journalist Matt Gutman said this is the “craziest, stupidest, deadliest catfishing scheme you have ever seen.” And it really is.  Come along with Hannah and Jessica as they discuss Zendaya, common sense, and “damn hooker slut bag whore.”   CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains discussions of cyberbullying, harassment, and homicide.     The Senseless Murder of Mary Ann Murphy

    In 2010, Keri Murphy was starting her freshman year at Nimitz High School in Humble, TX. She joined the JV choir, not knowing that this decision would change the course of her life. For the holiday performance, all three choirs at the school came together to perform. This is when Keri met Rebecca Keller. Rebecca was a senior and Keri thought she was so cool. The two seemed drawn to each other and shortly after meeting, they started dating.  Keri’s mom, Mary Ann, approved at first, until she found out Rebecca was a 19 year old senior about to graduate. Mary Ann told Keri they could no longer see each other. But it was too late. They were too in love and nothing would keep them apart. Keri was caught sneaking out of her house and sneaking Rebecca into the house multiple times. Mary Ann had had enough. She called the police and got a restraining order making it illegal for Rebecca to be near Keri. Even this didn’t keep them from seeing each other.  One night in July 2012, Keri made a 911 call saying she had heard her mom scream from her bedroom and saw two men running out of the house. First responders arrived at the scene and noticed some discrepancies with Keri’s story almost immediately. But it would take multiple interviews and polygraph tests with multiple people before they would discover the truth.  Come along with Hannah and her mom as they discuss the different types of high school choirs, bunny phones, and can inmates listen to podcasts in prison?  CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains discussions of homicide.
