Body Language with Christina Venditti

Christina Venditti

For those who are ready to trust the wisdom of the physical body: Your body is wise. It holds you together. Breathes you. Protects you. It is your vehicle for movement. It allows you to experience life. As a deeply brilliant system your body adapts to patterns, surroundings, and stimuli. And, it knows you! True body wisdom has been buried by trauma, conditioning, and fear. This wisdom can be accessed with acknowledgement, compassion, and love. When you develop practices that nourish your relationship with yourself, you can filter, and distill, and select supportive outside sources that will truly have an impact on your experience. You can call upon your clear senses to make decisions for you, keeping the good stuff and tossing the rest. We are being called to do our individual work, but we don’t have to do it alone. It can be done in community. I hope you find that support here in this space. The 3 Spaces

As a massage therapist, I commonly hear about restrictions and discomfort in the shoulders, and back. As a yoga teacher, I commonly hear about restrictions in more subtle areas. At least, they are subtle when the main focus is on larger muscle groups of the physical body. And yet, when I invite students to draw attention to the path of their inhale there are 3 Spaces that most commonly ask to be seen: The throat, the center of the chest, and the belly. I'll take you through this awareness practice right now. Stand or sit in stillness for 2 or 3 cycles of breath. Just notice. You don't need to change anything, and you most certainly don't need to judge anything. Simply notice, and allow your breath to soften you into stillness. As you take your next inhale, I invite you to follow the path of your breath. Where does it flow freely, and where does it bump up against some resistance? Is there a space in your body that is whispering for attention/ affection/ care/ grace? Now that you have given your awareness to this space, use your exhales to sigh loving kindness to that area. Again, this is just from an intention of noticing. This particular practice does not require fixing. It is a gentle witnessing of our own selves. As you begin to move out of the breathwork and back into the room, take some time to review what you noticed. You can take pen to paper and write it out, or you can just take a moment in thought with yourself. Some considerations about the 3 Spaces as you review your experience... The throat chakra is home to communication through sound. It is through sound communication that we connect, and extend what is deep inside. What is your experience with communication? The heart chakra is where love lives. The center of everything. This area is not referring to romantic love, but the love of compassion. It is divine love that radiates outward encompassing all that is within our field. This love is enduring, and eternal. What is your relationship with love? The solar plexus holds vitality. The belly holds incredible transformational energy. It is here where inertia is overcome. Raw materials dance with movement to create energy. You may recall hearing a variation of the phrase "fire in the belly". What do you notice about your personal vitality? This is a public episode. Things you can trust when things fall apart.

It may seem trite in the face of all that is going on in the world, but the closest source of trust exists within you. In your body systems. Your body has been with you here from the moment of your birth. You know each other better than anyone. So how can you cultivate a loving trusting relationship. And, better yet, why should you? The how can be found in the list below, and in this week's episode of Body Language The Podcast. * You can trust the framework of your bones. * You can trust your muscles to move you. * You can trust your breath to breathe you. * You can trust your skin to interpret touch, and to be your beautiful container. As for the "why"... because like it or not this is where your soul lives. This body is your vehicle, your transmitter, your home base, your reset point. Even in its "dysfunction", or when it delivers messages of pain your body cannot lie to you. Its main purpose for existence is to keep you safe, protected, vital, and experienced, (and you are in constant relationship with it.) How will you nurture this relationship today? Can you listen to the cues? Can you face just one of the messages you are receiving? Can you receive this communication with unconditional, compassionate love? I know there are times when your pain can feel like a betrayal, but in the end this body can be your safe space, and getting there begins with trust. XO, Christina This is a public episode.
