Meditation - Spiritual Formation (Part 3) | Ps Daniel Lotriet

Welcome to the Cultivate Church Podcast. As a church, we are exploring the topic of spiritual formation, and understanding what the Bible tells us about how we, through Christ, are forever transformed to be made in His likeness. In today's sermon, Ps Daniel unpacks the discipline of meditation, and how when we commit ourselves to God through meditation, we are placing ourselves before God, and welcoming His transformation in our life. Ps Daniel ends this message by leading us through Lectio Divin, a process of meditation; we encourage you to prepare a worship instrumental soundtrack to play afterwards, as well as a Bible open to John 1:36-42, or another selected Scripture to dwell on and meditate with. Lectio Divina If you would like to join us as we meditate, here is the process for Lectio Divina, adapted from unhurriedliving.com: Read (Lectio)Read John 1:36-42 slowly, out loud if you can. As you read, notice a single word or short phrase that catches your attention. Don't analyse why. Simply notice. Reflect (Meditatio)Stay with the word or phrase you noticed. Read the passage again. What is it doing in you? What memories, feelings, questions, or longings does it stir? Let the word sink past your mind and into your heart. Respond (Oratio)Read the passage a third time. Now speak back to God about what has surfaced. This can be a prayer of gratitude, a confession, a question, a complaint, a hope. Allow yourself to be honest. God sees and knows. Rest (Contemplatio)Read the passage one final time. Then pause. Stop reading. Stop reflecting. Stop talking. Simply rest in the presence of God, with the passage and the word or phrase that captured you sitting quietly in your awareness.
