Permission to Nourish Series - The Morning Routine That Supports Your Hormones

What if the best thing you could do for yourself every morning isn't adding another habit to your list—but giving yourself five minutes before the rest of the world gets your attention? In this episode, I’m continuing my August Permission to Nourish series with something incredibly simple: creating a morning routine that actually supports you in midlife. We're not doing that here. Instead, I’m inviting you to take just five minutes before you reach for your phone to pause, breathe, check in with yourself, and decide how you want to show up for the day. Because midlife changes things. Our hormones, sleep, energy, recovery, stress response, and even the way our bodies respond to food and exercise can change. That doesn't mean our bodies are broken. It means we may need to support ourselves differently than we did in our 20s and 30s. Not more rules. Not more restriction. Not another list of things you're doing “wrong.” Support. In this episode, we talk about why your morning matters, how to create a routine that fits your real life, and how the AIM Method—Alignment, Intention, Momentum—can help you create small habits that actually stick. In this episode, we’ll talk about:Why your morning should start with you, not your phone, email, or social mediaWhy the perfect Instagram-worthy morning routine isn't necessaryHow midlife and menopause can change your sleep, energy, appetite, stress response, and recoverySimple ways to incorporate hydration, natural light, movement, and nourishment into your morningHow to stop thinking about food as being “good” or “bad” and start paying attention to what your body is telling youThe connection between morning habits, identity, self-trust, and confidenceMy simple 5-Minute Morning Routine Before the PhoneHow to use AIM—Alignment, Intention, Momentum—to decide what you actually need each dayWhy small, repeatable actions can create more momentum than an elaborate routine you'll abandon in a weekYour 5-Minute Morning ChallengeBefore you look at your phone for the next 7 mornings, give yourself five minutes.Minute 1: PAUSE Take a few slow breaths. Minute 2: HYDRATE Drink some water. Minute 3: CHECK IN Ask yourself: How am I feeling today? Minute 4: ASK Ask: What do I need today? Minute 5: INTEND Finish this sentence: “Today I am choosing to ______.” That's it. No perfection required. And if you miss a day? You haven't failed. You simply start again tomorrow. That's consistency. That's self-trust. That's momentum. And one more thing…If you're enjoying More Than a Hot Flash, please share this episode with a woman who needs it and take a minute to leave the show a rating and review. Seriously. It helps more women find these conversations and reminds another woman that she doesn't have to figure out midlife alone. And if you haven't already, grab my free Permission Slip PDF and write down what you're ready to give yourself permission to do in this next chapter. Because maybe your morning routine isn't really about what you do at 7 AM. Want even more tips and support - join my weekly Newsletter

Permission To Nourish Series - Stop Chasing the Scale

Stop chasing the scale!Have you ever had a really good day—and then stepped on the scale and suddenly decided you weren't making progress? You ate well. You moved your body. You got enough water. Maybe you even slept better. But the number went up. And just like that, the story in your head changed. "I'm not doing enough." "I need to try harder." "Maybe I should eat less." Friend, I want us to stop giving one number that much power. In this episode of More Than a Hot Flash, I'm challenging you to ditch the scale for 30 days and start paying attention to the things that actually tell you how you're doing. Because your weight can fluctuate for so many reasons that have nothing to do with gaining body fat—hydration, sodium, digestion, inflammation, stress, sleep, and hormonal changes can all affect the number you see. And especially in midlife, our bodies are changing. That doesn't mean we're broken. It means we need to start looking at a bigger picture. We're talking about strength, energy, sleep, recovery, stamina, confidence, consistency, food freedom, and joy—because those are also signs that your body and your life are moving in the right direction. I'll also talk about why building and preserving muscle becomes increasingly important as we age, why strength training is about so much more than weight loss, and why feeling stronger can be a far more meaningful measure of progress than watching the scale go down. What if freedom around food was a health goal? Confidence is built every time you keep a promise to yourself. Your 30-Day ChallengeFor the next 30 days, I want you to put the scale aside and track three non-scale victories. You can use my 30 Day Essential Planner To track your new habits! Maybe it's: More energyBetter sleepGetting strongerDrinking more waterEating nourishing meals consistentlyFeeling better in your clothesLess food guiltMore confidenceMore patience with yourselfDoing something that brings you joyAt the end of those 30 days, I want you to ask yourself a very different question. Not: "How much weight did I lose?" But: "Who am I becoming?" Because weight loss might change your body... but self-trust changes your life. In This EpisodeWhy your weight can fluctuate without fat gainWhy one weigh-in should never outweigh your progressThe importance of strength and muscle in midlifeBetter ways to measure health and progressCreating more freedom and trust around foodWhy consistency matters more than intensityWhy confidence grows through keeping promises to yourselfHow joy, connection, sleep, and recovery fit into your healthThe AIM Method and shifting your focus from the scale to sustainable habitsMy 30-day challenge to ditch the scale and track what actually mattersA Few Things to RememberThe scale is data—not a definition. Consistency is the metric that predicts transformation. And most importantly: You are not a number. Email me Stephanie@Essentialsoulcoaching.com and tell me what you are celebrating!

Permission To Nourish Series - Stop trying to eat less

Stop Trying to Eat Less: Why Nourishment Beats Restriction Every TimeWelcome to the first episode of my August podcast series, Permission to Nourish—a month dedicated to helping women in midlife let go of outdated diet rules and replace them with habits that truly support their bodies. If you've spent years believing that eating less, exercising more, and having more willpower was the answer, this episode is for you. Today, we're challenging one of the biggest lies diet culture ever sold us: that the less you eat, the healthier you'll become. I share my own story of when I first started believing my body needed to be smaller and how those early messages shaped my relationship with food, confidence, and self-worth. We also talk about what really happens when we spend years restricting food, why your body shifts into survival mode, and how that can increase hunger, slow metabolism, and make it harder to trust your body's signals. We'll also dive into what changes during perimenopause and menopause. As hormones like estrogen begin to decline, your body responds differently to food, stress, sleep, and exercise. That doesn't mean your body is broken—it simply means it needs a different kind of support. Most importantly, I want you to walk away knowing that nourishment is about so much more than what's on your plate. It's also about getting enough sleep, building strength, drinking water, moving your body, finding joy, reducing stress, and treating yourself with compassion. Instead of asking, "How can I eat less?" I want you to start asking, "How can I better support my body today?" That one question has the power to change everything. In This EpisodeWhy restriction often backfires in midlifeHow diet culture teaches us to disconnect from our bodiesWhat happens when your body goes into survival modeThe hormonal changes that affect weight during perimenopause and menopauseWhy protein, hydration, sleep, and strength matter more than perfectionThe mindset shift from controlling your body to caring for it🗓 This Week's Permission to Nourish ChallengeChoose one supportive habit and practice it every day this week. It could be: Eating a protein-rich breakfastDrinking more waterSitting down to enjoy your lunchGoing to bed 30 minutes earlierTaking a walk after dinnerKeep it simple. Stay consistent. Build trust with yourself one small choice at a time. Get my free Permission Slip PDF to help you take this even further ✨ Then send me an email to Stephanie@Essentialsoulcoaching.com with the subject line: "I'm Choosing to Nourish." Tell me the one habit you're focusing on this week and why you chose it. I read every email, and I'd love to celebrate your wins with you. If this episode encouraged you, please subscribe, leave a review, and share it with a friend who's ready to stop fighting her body and start supporting it. Remember... 💕You don't have to earn nourishment. 💕You don't have to shrink yourself to be worthy. 💕Your body isn't asking for more control. 💕It's asking for more support. And that is where real transformation begins. Follow me on Instagram and send me your questions or podcast episode ideas!

Why It's Harder to Lose Weight in Midlife

Why it's harder to lose weight in Midlife Have you ever looked at your body and wondered... "Why isn't what used to work... working anymore?" If you're in your 40s or 50s and you've found yourself eating less, exercising more, and still watching the scale refuse to budge, this episode is for you. Today we're separating fact from fiction and replacing guilt with science. Because here's the truth: Your body isn't broken. It isn't betraying you. And contrary to what diet culture has told us for years, this isn't a willpower problem. Perimenopause and menopause bring some of the biggest hormonal changes a woman will ever experience. All of these shifts affect the way your body stores fat, regulates hunger, and responds to exercise. That doesn't mean weight loss is impossible. It means your body deserves a new strategy. Because the goal isn't to force your body back into who it was twenty years ago. The goal is to learn how to support the incredible woman you are becoming. What I'm sharing: • Why estrogen plays such a powerful role in metabolism, body composition, and belly fat during midlife • How age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia) slows metabolism—and why strength training becomes one of the best investments you can make • Why poor sleep changes your hunger hormones, making healthy choices feel harder than ever • How years of restrictive dieting can actually work against your metabolism • How inflammation changes during menopause and simple ways to support your body • Why the strategies that worked in your 20s and 30s may no longer serve you Action Steps: Instead of asking, "How can I lose weight faster?" Ask yourself, "How can I better support my body today?" Choose one supportive habit this week: ✔ Eat a protein-rich breakfast. ✔ Go for a 15-minute walk. ✔ Lift weights twice this week. ✔ Drink more water. ✔ Go to bed 30 minutes earlier. Small changes practiced consistently will always beat another extreme plan. The Midlife Identity Shift Nobody Warned You About

What if you're not having a midlife crisis... What if you're having a midlife awakening? So many women tell me they feel lost after 40. The kids are growing up. Their careers don't light them up the way they used to. Their bodies are changing. Their priorities are changing. And somewhere along the way, they start asking themselves... "Who am I now?" If that's where you are, I want you to know something: You're not broken. You're not behind. You're not losing yourself. You're becoming the next version of yourself. In this episode, we're talking about the identity shift that so many women experience in midlife—but almost nobody prepares us for. We'll explore how to let go of the roles that no longer fit, embrace what's calling you forward, and stop waiting for permission to create a life that feels like yours again. Because your next chapter doesn't begin someday. It begins with one decision. ✨We will dive into:Why midlife is an awakening—not a crisisHow to recognize when you've outgrown the version of yourself that got you hereWhy your identity is so much bigger than the roles you've playedLetting go of perfectionism, people-pleasing, and the pressure to have it all figured outHow curiosity helps you build confidence, one small step at a timeSimple ways to explore new hobbies, passions, and possibilities without turning your whole life upside downWhy menopause often gives women permission to become more honest, more direct, and more themselvesHow the AIM Method—Alignment, Intention, and Momentum—can help you navigate this season with purposeWhy becoming isn't about starting over—it's about coming home to yourselfOne simple challenge to help you take your first step toward the woman you're becoming. And you don't need anyone else's permission to become the woman you're meant to be. As you listen, think about these questions: Who am I becoming in this season of my life? What version of myself have I outgrown? If fear wasn't in the driver's seat, what would I try next? What's one small step I can take this week toward the life I truly want?🌿 Your Permission to THRIVE ChallengeThis week, I want you to do one thing your younger self always dreamed about. Why women feel guilty for taking care of themselves

Have you ever felt guilty for taking a nap... Saying no to another commitment... Booking the massage... Going for a walk... Or simply sitting down while everyone else kept going? If you nodded yes, you're not alone. But here's what I want you to know: That guilt isn't proof you're doing something wrong. It's proof you've been conditioned to believe that everyone else's needs should come before your own. In this episode, we're unpacking where that guilt comes from, why so many women struggle to prioritize themselves, and how to replace the idea of self-care with something I believe is far more powerful—self-support. Because taking care of yourself isn't selfish. It's one of the most loving things you can do for yourself and for the people you love. Highlights ✨ Why so many women feel guilty for slowing down or putting themselves firstThe difference between guilt and your intuition—and why they aren't the same thingWhy burnout has become something women almost wear as a badge of honorThe shift from self-care to self-support—and why that mindset changes everythingHow boundaries protect your peace, your energy, and your nervous systemThe power of writing yourself a Permission Slip instead of waiting for someone else's approvalHow small, supportive choices rebuild trust with yourselfWhy choosing yourself gives other women permission to do the sameA few truths I hope you remember - You don't have to earn rest. You don't have to justify taking care of yourself. Your worth is not measured by how busy you are. And the people who love you don't need a burnt-out version of you. They need the healthiest, happiest version of you. ⏰ Episode Highlights00:00 – Why women feel guilty for taking care of themselves 02:00 – Where that guilt really comes from 05:00 – Why I'm choosing self-support over self-care 08:00 – The connection between boundaries, recovery, and nervous system health 11:00 – Writing your own Permission Slip 14:00 – Letting go of outdated expectations 18:00 – Using the AIM Method to create lasting change 21:00 – Small ways to support yourself every single day 24:00 – Reclaiming your worth beyond productivity 27:00 – Your Permission to THRIVE challenge As you listen, ask yourself: When did I first learn that taking care of myself was selfish? What am I saying yes to that I actually need to say no to?What would change if I stopped waiting for permission? What does self-support look like in this season of my life? What's one small way I can support myself this week?🌿 Download Your Free Permission SlipIf today's episode resonated with you, I created something special to help you put these ideas into practice. The hidden cost of being the strong one

The Hidden Cost of Being "The Strong One"Have you ever noticed that everyone calls you strong... But almost nobody asks if you're okay? If you've spent your life being the one everyone depends on, fixing problems, holding everything together, and making sure everyone else is taken care of, this episode is for you. Because today we're talking about something I think so many women experience but rarely admit: Being "the strong one" is exhausting. Not because strength is a bad thing—but because somewhere along the way, many of us started believing we had to carry everything by ourselves. The truth is, resilience is a beautiful quality. But when strength becomes your identity instead of one of your strengths, it can quietly turn into burnout, loneliness, and emotional exhaustion. In this episode, we're unpacking where that belief comes from, why it's so hard to ask for help, and how to begin letting people support you without feeling guilty. Because thriving isn't about proving how much you can carry. It's about knowing you don't have to carry it all alone. ✨ A Few Truths I Hope You Take With YouBeing strong doesn't mean doing everything alone. You don't have to earn rest. You don't have to earn support. You don't become more valuable by becoming more exhausted. And asking for help doesn't make you weak. It makes you human. ⏰ Episode Highlights00:00 – Why being "the strong one" comes with a hidden cost 03:00 – Where our need to be self-reliant often begins 07:00 – When strength becomes emotional armor 10:00 – Hyper-independence, burnout, and why asking for help feels so hard 14:00 – The difference between competence and capacity 17:00 – Why carrying everything keeps your nervous system on high alert 20:00 – Releasing guilt, receiving support, and rebuilding self-trust 23:00 – Using the AIM Method to create more space and less pressure 26:00 – The Permission to THRIVE moment: choosing connection over carrying it all Let's connect! Website: www.essentialsoulcoaching.com Instagram: @essential_soul_coach Email: stephanie@essentialsoulcoaching.com Join my newsletter 💕 Closing ChallengeThis week, instead of asking: "What else do I need to do?" Ask: "What can I stop carrying?" Because the opposite of being "the strong one" isn't weakness. It's connection. And connection is where healing—and thriving—begins. Final ThoughtMaybe being the strongest woman in the room was never the goal. Maybe the real strength is knowing when to put the weight down. To ask for help. To receive love. To let yourself be cared for. Because healing doesn't happen when you keep carrying everything. It begins the moment you give yourself permission to stop carrying it alone.
