Jarkeshia McGahee

Real, raw, and transparent conversations on mental health, encouragement, and grief with God at the center. The Check On Your People (ChOP) podcast is a faith-based podcast for anyone who wants honest conversations about what it means to be seen, heard, and supported. Why do we ChOP? It's easy to feel isolated and alone, even in a crowded room. Checking in on your people is a simple, powerful way to remind someone they matter. This podcast exists to encourage that habit and to remind you that you're not alone. A simple "How are you?" can change someone's day. Let's ChOP

Am I Sufficient? By Yourself, No but with God Yes

Are you sufficient on your own? This episode asks that question honestly and answers it with Scripture rather than self-help. The message is simple: by yourself, no, you are not sufficient, but with God, yes, you are. Drawing from 2 Corinthians, this episode walks through what it looks like to stop leaning on yourself and start bringing God into every weakness, hardship, and decision, not just emergencies. True sufficiency is not self-made. Our competence comes from God, not from our own effort or willpower.Weakness is not something to hide; it is where God's power shows up. When we are weak, we are made strong through Him."I" language is a warning sign. Watch for how often we say "I can," "I will," "I'm going to" without ever asking God what He wants.Don't wait for a crisis to talk to God. Many of us only run to Him when we're already in trouble. He wants to walk with us before, during, and after.Shortcuts usually cost more than they save. Trying to do things in our own strength often leads to deeper holes. God's way may be slower, but it holds.Delayed obedience is still a struggle worth naming. Stepping up when God calls, without delay, is where the real reward is found.Scriptures Referenced2 Corinthians 12:9–10 (NIV) — "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness..." 2 Corinthians 3:5 (NIV) — "Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God." Reflection question: Do you only run to God when you're already in trouble, or do you walk with Him before the hardship hits?
