There would be cooperation on tech, defense, and energy. Roland Paris, a professor  of International Affairs at the University of Ottawa, explains what the  change in status would do for both Canada and the EU. Canada has many resources the EU needs, especially since the US under Trump has has added huge tariffs and a general  attitude of coercion to its relationship with Europe. Canadian PM Carney appears open to a new alliance with Europe.         From FRANCE- Press reviews from the US, Canada, and Europe on the proposed new partnership between Canada and Europe. On 9/11 many papers gave opinions as to the success of the the US war on terror after the Twin Towers attack. Then a press review of the US proposed $2.8 billion arms sale to Israel.          From JAPAN- Iceland may quit whaling next year, leaving only Japan and Norway defying the global moratorium by the International Whaling Commission enacted in 1986. A brief update on the human toll in the floods in Nepal from 3 weeks ago. The Chinese Defense Minister urged countries to exercise vigilance against militarism, seemingly aimed at Japan over comments on the conflicts between Taiwan and  China. Iran has restated that it will not negotiate with the US until its conditions are met- meanwhile Houthis have effectively blocked Saudi oil exports. China urged Iran and the US to hold talks leading to a diplomatic resolution on the memorandum of understanding. After meeting with Marco Rubio, the recently elected president of Peru, Keiko Fujimori, says her country will participate with US led forces targeting drug crime.         From CUBA- The Pentagon released another video of an alleged drug boat being blown up by US forces in the Caribbean. An Israeli human rights group, B’tselem, accuses Israel of systematically dismantling the conditions that allow Palestinians in the occupied West Bank to function as a community. Israeli forces have continued severe attacks on Lebanon, despite a US brokered ceasefire earlier this year. The Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband delivered the changes while pointing out that he is proudly of Jewish descent and supports the Israeli right to exist- while accusing terrorist settlers of ethnic cleansing. DW correspondents Tania Kramer and Birgit Maass discuss the ramifications of the sanctions imposed and note that 11 other countries, including France and Canada, have joined in the action. Israel announced counter measures. Jewish organizations in the UK said Miliband is appeasing the left wing and islamists. During the controversy Israel announced plans for another 1000 settler homes in West Bank settlements.         From FRANCE- Press reviews on the revelations that Netanyahu was informed in advance of the October 7th massacre by Hamas. The far right wing German political party, called the AfD or Alternative for Germany, won a significant election in an eastern state- demonstrations took place across Germany in opposition. Marco Rubio is visiting the South American countries which recently elected right-wing leaders- in Peru there were large demonstrations in opposition to his presence.          From CUBA-  Trump posted a map of the western hemisphere as well as Greenland and Iceland with the label the United States of America- Iceland summoned the US ambassador and Mexican president Sheinbaum stated that Mexico is a free, independent and sovereign nation. Israel is accused of destroying every condition for survival in Gaza, including water treatment and 90% of all the buildings. Israel has continued deadly strikes in Lebanon and says their troops will remain there until Hezbollah no longer exists.         From JAPAN- Japan has experienced a week of torrential rain including the most rainfall every recorded in one hour. An update on the death toll in Nepal following climate induced flash flooding 2 weeks ago. Russia and North Korea have completed the first road bridge between the countries. John Feeley is a former US Ambassador to Panama and currently Executive Director of Media Integrity Of The Americas. He said that the takeover was a big announcement that is basically an exaggeration to please the MAGA supporters and distract from the tension about fuel prices. Alejandro Betancourt is an oil oligarch and looks to be the private business partner to conduct the deal. Feeley says that the Venezuelan people will be the losers in whatever comes to pass from these announcements.         From FRANCE- Press reviews have returned to France 24 and here is one about Alejandro Betancourt the notoriously corrupt oil baron swinging the oil deal for the US in Venezuela. Then a report on the signing of a separate oil deal between Chevron and other US firms with the Venezuelan government installed after the US kidnapped President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. Then an opinion piece from the Nepali Himalayan Times lambasting Western hypocrisy around the climate crisis which created the devastating floods in Nepal.          From JAPAN- An update on the situation in Nepal. Ukrainian President Zelensky has warned the world that Russian airspace will be effectively closing because of increasing drone attacks. Japanese Defense forces are showing off their new aerial combat drones. Leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization held a summit and issued a declaration supporting Iranian sovereignty and territorial integrity. Iranian officials accuse the US military of attacking dozens of people at a wedding, killing 4 and injuring 67.         From CUBA- Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio denounced the the US government is funding press articles to justify a military aggression against Cuba. A second deportation flight was sent to Haiti. Cuba criticized the continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon, where more than 4300 have been killed since March. Leela Jacinto talks about the geology of the region and the melting glaciers that triggered the events- glaciers are melting at record levels around the planet, largely a result of climate warming. Parts of Central America are experiencing extreme drought, exacerbated by the changing weather patterns brought on by an unusual El Nino. Noga Tarnopolsky talks about how the upcoming Israeli elections are influencing extremist settler attacks in the occupied West Bank- also Israeli Minister of National Security Ben-Gvir called for the wanton killing of  30-40 Palestinians each night in Gaza to raise the level of terror and keep Netanyahu in power.          From JAPAN- The Japanese government says it supports International Criminal Court President Tomoko Akane after the US announced sanctions against her- a group of Parliamentarians condemned the move by Donald Trump. The UN and the IIRC are urging countries to regulate lethal autonomous AI weapon systems. Parts of Japan have been experiencing extreme heat. China and other countries expressed displeasure after the US said it would ratchet up its sanctions on anyone doing business with Iran.         From CUBA- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez condemned the new one year extension of the US blockade on the island- more than 7000 cargo containers with international aid remain stranded in Caribbean ports in fear of the US sanctions. The Pentagon announced that it has renewed its strikes on boats in the eastern Pacific and Caribbean allegedly transporting drugs to the US- at least 223 people have been killed in the bombings- the US DEA says the killings have had no effect on supplies of cocaine in the US. The UN, Canada, and Australia said it was shameful that Israel will not investigate the killing of a convoy from the World Food Kitchen in Gaza- 186 aid workers were killed last year in Gaza. Campaigns for the Brazilian presidential elections kicked off last Sunday, with the vote coming in October. The UK Sunday Times quoted the Ukraine military saying British made drones are used for attacking oil refineries deep inside Russia. Israeli strikes on Gaza on Wednesday killed 10 Palestinians. The Trump administration is escalating its attack on the International Criminal Court, imposing sanctions on the President Tomoko Akane and others in the Courts leadership.         From FRANCE- More in-depth reporting on the US attack on the International Criminal Court- there is a broader attack on the organization stemming from fear that the Americans might be charged with war crimes. Volodmyr Zelensky is being challenged in a call for a new presidential election, the first since 2019, by Mykhailo Federov recently fired Defense Minister.          From CUBA- Trump claimed the strait of Hormuz as US territory- Iran insists it will keep the waterway closed until the US acts within the Memorandum of understanding and releases Iranian assets. Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene claims that the Trump administration is discussing using tactical nuclear weapons in the war on Iran- NBC reported a similar story from a Pentagon official. Stephen Kinsella is a former EU antitrust lawyer and a founding member of Patriotic Millionaires UK. The report talks about the level of poverty in the UK and how a the tax would be a huge boost to social services and not actually cause a loss of assets for the wealthiest- who would never be able to spend all their money in the lifetimes anyway.         From FRANCE- Greenland issued a warning to a US oil company to not drill on its territory after they already unloaded drilling equipment onshore. The Texas based company connected to Donald Trump had purchased the rights from a UK company called 80 Mile- they had obtained the drilling license before the Greenland government stopped issuing them in 2021. In an interview with Lukas Wahden from George Washington University, Trumps motives in Greenland are also discussed. The new right-wing Colombian president Abelardo Gabriel de la Espriella was sworn in, promising a crackdown on armed cocaine producing guerrillas with the assistance of the US and Israeli militaries.          From CUBA- The new Colombian president Abelardo de la Espriella has joined the US as the only two countries recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, a Syrian territory. A retired Israeli General says Gaza should remain destroyed for generations, and that Israel should retain the Yellow Line  which marks the military territory. China has called on the US not to slander relations between countries, and reiterated its support of Cuban self-defense.         From JAPAN- The Japanese PM spoke with the Iranian president on the Hormuz situation and the Houthi vessel attacks in Yemen. Trump wrote an executive order placing a new 15 percent tariff on polysilicon products such as solar panels. Israel continues to bomb daily in Gaza despite a ceasefire- 150 Gazans were killed in July alone. Dr. Moustapha Barghouti, Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative is interviewed about the significance of the funeral, and the agreement with Hamas put forward by Trump's so-called Board of Peace.  He also talks of 2 Gaza families, speaks about the collective punishment, Israel blocking all foreign journalists from entry into Gaza, and the fallacy of a ceasefire. He brings up settler attacks in the West Bank. Netanyahu announced that even if there is disarmament he will never withdraw from Gaza. Dr. Barghouti says Palestinians have little influence on the Board of Peace, but that there will be democratic elections for a new parliament.         From JAPAN- The Japanese Defense Ministry presented its annual report with a focus on drones, AI, and exporting some weapons. Hiroshima held its annual Peace Ceremony with leaders talking about the importance of immediately abolishing nuclear weapons. Mitsubishi is racing to develop next generation small modular nuclear reactors as is Canada and the US.          From CUBA- Cuban Foreign Minister Rodriguez denounced the power outages made much worse by the US sanctions and blockade of fuel to the island. RHC was down for 3 days this week. Trump is interfering in the Brazil presidential election in October as he has in recent polls in Argentina, Honduras, and Colombia. Oil company profits are soaring because of the US Israel war on Iran. The heatwave in Europe continued, with wildfires and drought in many areas. A few notes. A hectare is about 2.5 acres and 40 degrees centigrade is 104 fahrenheit. First a brief summary of the situation in France and Spain. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez  directly blamed human induced global warming for the climate emergency. Hundreds of thousands have been evacuated. An excerpts of an interview with Jan-Phillip Scholz a correspondent in Valencia Spain. Then excerpts of an interview with Stephan Pyne, an American fire historian. He discusses whether these fires are unprecedented and as climate change worsens will the fires get worse. He argues that humanity has created a new age of fire, a pyrocene era. He points out how we could mitigate the increasing danger, mainly to stop warming the planet and how we are living on the land. Much of the world that is burning now has always been in fire prone areas. He talks about the living nature of fire.         From FRANCE- Last week I covered the huge confrontation by east Indian youth who call themselves the Cockroach movement- they have called a truce after the minister of education resigned. Trump pardoned former rightwing president Juan Orlando Hernandez in December for allowing shipments of 400 tons of cocaine to the US- he returned to Honduras this week. The death toll in Venezuela from massive earthquakes a month ago has risen to 5500, with many thousands of people unaccounted for.          From CUBA- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel thanked the Mexican people for their support of Cuba as it struggles under US blockades and sanctions. In the occupied West Bank Israeli settlers torched 2 mosques during recent attacks which included the detention of 70 and the killing of 4 Palestinians.
