Is Your Child Materialistic? What Their Behavior May Really Mean

Does your child always seem to want another toy, another treat, or another gift? Are you worried that you're raising a child who is materialistic or never satisfied? What if there's something deeper going on? In this episode of Early Childhood & the Bible, we're continuing our series on the 5 Love Languages for Children by exploring the love language of gifts. The love language of gifts isn't really about getting more stuff. For a child who experiences love most deeply through gifts, the meaning behind the gift can communicate something powerful: "I saw this, I thought of you, and I wanted you to know that I love you." We'll also talk about an important distinction between gifts, rewards, and bribery—and why using gifts to control a child's behavior can send a very different message than giving a gift as an unconditional expression of love. In this episode, you'll discover: What the love language of gifts really means for children How to tell the difference between a child who enjoys gifts and a child whose primary love language may be receiving gifts Why giving your child more things doesn't necessarily make them feel more loved How gifts can accidentally become rewards, bribes, or tools for behavior modification Why unconditional love matters when you're discipling your children How your child's emotional needs affect the way they receive gifts Simple, meaningful ways to use gifts to communicate love without spending a lot of money Most importantly, we'll look at the connection between God's grace and the way we give to our children. Scripture reminds us that salvation itself is a gift of grace—not something we earn through good behavior. If you're trying to raise children who understand the difference between love and materialism, grace and performance, and discipline and manipulation, this conversation will give you a new perspective on the way you give—and why you give. Why Your Child Keeps Acting Out (It's Not What You Think)

Why does your child constantly interrupt, act out, or demand your attention? It may not be defiance. It may not even be bad behavior. It may be a child whose emotional "love tank" is running empty. In this episode of Early Childhood and the Bible, we're continuing our series on the Five Love Languages for Children by exploring Quality Time—and why many attention-seeking behaviors are actually a child's attempt to connect with the people they love most. You'll discover why all behavior is communication, how today's screen-saturated culture is affecting children's hearts, and why 15 minutes of uninterrupted, intentional connection can often do more than hours spent together while distracted. In this episode you'll learn: • Why children seek attention—even through negative behavior. • The difference between being physically present and emotionally present. • How phones and technology quietly compete for your child's heart. • Why quality time builds trust long before the teenage years. • Practical ways to create meaningful one-on-one connection with each child. • How intentional presence reflects God's design for relationships and discipleship. Whether you're a parent, grandparent, teacher, or homeschool family, this episode will encourage you to put down the distractions, lean into intentional connection, and disciple your child's heart through everyday moments. Words of Affirmation: How Your Words Shape Your Child's Identity, Faith & Behavior

What if the words you speak today become the voice your child hears for the rest of their life? In this episode of Early Childhood & the Bible, we're continuing our series on the Five Love Languages for Children by exploring Words of Affirmation—and why Scripture has so much to say about the power of our words. The Bible tells us that "death and life are in the power of the tongue" (Proverbs 18:21), and nowhere is that truth more evident than in the hearts of our children. Whether you're encouraging, correcting, praising, or simply saying "I love you," your words are shaping your child's identity, resilience, and understanding of God's love. In this episode, you'll discover: Why words carry spiritual power. The difference between praise and genuine affirmation. How to encourage effort instead of performance. Why specific encouragement builds confidence and perseverance. How correction is better received when it's surrounded by affirmation. Ways parents unintentionally communicate conditional love. Practical ideas for filling a child whose primary love language is Words of Affirmation. How speaking life over your children is an act of biblical discipleship.  Whether you're a parent, grandparent, teacher, homeschool family, or children's ministry leader, this episode will equip you with practical, faith-filled strategies to help your children know they are deeply loved—not because of what they do, but because of whose they are.
