    1 Samuel 10:17-14:52

Saul’s reign begins with promise. Empowered by the Spirit of God, he leads Israel to victory, shows mercy to his enemies, and gives glory to the Lord. But his fruitful beginning quickly fades as Saul begins trusting his own wisdom, acting impatiently, and rejecting the Word of God. In 1 Samuel 10–14, Saul’s rise and fall reminds us that the Spirit of God distinguishes God’s people and rejecting His leading ultimately leads to ruin. The Christian life is not sustained by our own strength, wisdom, or plans, but by walking in dependence upon the Spirit and obedience to the Word of God.

    1 Samuel 9:1-10:16

In 1 Samuel 9:1–10:16, Israel receives the king they sinfully desired, but Saul is also the king God sovereignly chooses and anoints. Through God’s providential direction, Saul is brought to Samuel, anointed as king, and empowered by the Spirit for the task before him.

    1 Samuel 8:1-22

In 1 Samuel 8, Israel looks at the nations around them and demands a king like the world, rejecting the Lord as their sufficient King. Despite Samuel’s warning of what a worldly king would take from them, Israel insists on its own way. This passage exposes our tendency to seek worldly substitutes when we forget who God is and what He has done.

    1 Samuel 4-7

In 1 Samuel 4–7, Israel’s rejection of the Lord leads to defeat and the departure of God’s glory. Yet the captured ark reveals that God has not been defeated. His glory brings judgment upon His enemies. When Israel repents and returns to the Lord, they discover that His presence alone is their victory.

    1 Samuel 2:11-3:21

This week we saw that in a time of spiritual desolation, Eli and his sons rejected the Word of the Lord and served themselves rather than God. Yet their unfaithfulness could not derail God’s plan. In 1 Samuel 2:11–3:21, we see the Lord judge those who reject His Word, call Samuel to hear and obey His voice, and raise up a faithful servant to carry His Word forward. Ultimately, Samuel points us to the faithful Son we desperately need—Jesus Christ.

    1 Samuel 2:1-11

In Chapter 2 of 1 Samuel, Hannah sings a song exulting in the Lord's gift and ultimately His salvation. Hannah seems to understand that the Lord is doing something much greater in the life of Israel than just granting her a son. (The first 6 minutes of this recording were recorded at a later date due to technical difficulties.)

    1 Samuel 1:1-28

1 Samuel begins in a season of barrenness—not only for Hannah, but for Israel. Yet when circumstances seem hopeless and God seems silent, He is still at work. Hannah’s story reminds us that we can bring our distress to the Lord and trust the God who cares for His people and continues His good work.

    2026-2027 Pursuit Kickoff

We kicked off the semester tonight with a sermon out of Ephesians 3. Do people know how much you care for them by the consistency and content of your prayers for them? Would we appeal to the riches of God's glory for the sake of one another.
