Episode 28 – Let’s Talk About ENERGY How to Shift Your V.I.B.E. and Lead With Power

What’s the most powerful thing you bring into every room? It’s not your resume.  It’s not your title.  It’s your energy. Your energy shows up before you speak. It lingers after you leave. And it either lifts people up — or wears them down. In this episode of Stress Smarts with Colonel Deb, we explore how energy influences leadership, relationships, stress management, and performance under pressure. From “how not to start a war with your face” to mirror neurons and the power of smiling, you’ll learn why your emotional state is contagious — and how to consciously shift it. Because your presence is your leadership. That’s why I teach the V.I.B.E. framework: V — Vibrations Lead the Way  Energy is the primary law. What you give off shapes the emotional climate of every room. I — Internal Reset Is Key  If you don’t reset your energy internally, you’ll project stress, fear, or tension — even if you say the right words. Tools like Waterfall Breathing, tapping, affirmations, and visualization help you recalibrate. B — Be the Mirror You Want to See  Thanks to mirror neurons, your nervous system talks to others. Smile. Stand tall. Project confidence. Your energy influences theirs. E — Embrace Daily Practices  Energy isn’t one decision — it’s a lifestyle. Sleep. Nutrition. Gratitude. Empowering questions. Daily habits determine long-term vitality. There are no shortcuts to high energy. But there are tools to build it. Every day, you have a choice: let the world shape your energy — or choose to lead with intention. Let’s Talk About ACCUSATIONS - How to Stay Calm and Lead When You're Under Fire

What if the worst thing someone said about you… wasn’t true?  And even worse — people believed it? Accusations can hit like a punch to the gut. Whether they’re true, false, or weaponized projections, they have the power to undermine reputations, damage relationships, and trigger deep emotional pain. In this episode of Stress Smarts with Colonel Deb, I share deeply personal stories from West Point and beyond — moments of being misunderstood, falsely accused, and publicly blamed — and what I learned the hard way about standing strong when your character is under attack. Most accusations aren’t about truth.  They’re about projection, control, fear, or misunderstanding. That’s why I created a tool to help you rise above the noise: C.L.E.A.R. C. Calm and Center your emotions. L. Listen for what’s really happening. E. Evaluate your options. A. Ask better questions. R.  Respond with wisdom. When you stay C.L.E.A.R., you don’t just survive accusations — you lead through them. Accusations don’t define you.  How you respond does. Let’s Talk About SHORTCUTS – Why the Fastest Way Isn’t Always the Smartest

Shortcuts may save you time. But when it comes to life, leadership, and legacy—the fastest way isn’t always the smartest. Especially when people are involved. In this episode of Stress Smarts with Colonel Deb, we unpack the myth of shortcuts and the hidden costs of cutting corners. From military operations to team leadership, I’ve seen firsthand how rushing decisions, skipping stakeholders, and chasing efficiency before effectiveness can quietly create blind spots—and sometimes unintended harm. There’s a critical distinction between effectiveness and efficiency. Effectiveness means doing the right thing. Efficiency means doing the thing right. Shortcutting the first for the second is a recipe for failure. That’s why I live by a different standard—captured in the word B.R.I.D.G.E.: B. Build trust every step. R. Refine the ultimate goal. I. Include all stakeholders. D. Decide how communications flow. G. Grow stronger through challenges. E. Evaluate impacts while continuously improving. Shortcuts may feel faster. But bridges carry people safely across. If you’ve ever felt pressured to “just get it done” when something didn’t sit right—this episode will help you trust your inner compass instead of someone else’s stopwatch. Let’s Talk About STANDARDS — Why the Minimum Is Never Enough

Some people think standards are about rules.  I think they’re about life and death. In this episode of Stress Smarts with Colonel Deb, I share why minimum standards aren’t enough—drawing from real-world experiences at Khobar Towers, the Pentagon on 9/11, and the Miracle on the Hudson. In engineering, military operations, leadership, and everyday life, standards determine whether people walk away—or don’t. I also explain the four types of people you’ll encounter around standards: Self-Glorifiers, Enforcers, Facilitators, and Disrupters—and why being a thoughtful Disrupter can save lives and protect integrity. This episode introduces my S.A.F.E. framework, a practical way to keep standards from becoming meaningless checklists: S – Set the Minimums Clear, fact-based standards grounded in known risks and realities. A – Aim Higher for Excellence Beyond the Minimum Minimums may keep you legal. Aiming higher keeps people alive, thriving, and proud of their work. F – Fail Safe When things break, they must break in a way that protects people—not catastrophically. E – Evolve Standards must adapt to new facts, threats, and conditions—using judgment, experience, and context. If your standards aren’t protecting people, adapting to reality, and pushing excellence—they may be doing more harm than good. In my experience, when minimum standards of respect and conduct are ignored—whether in engineering or leadership—risk quietly builds until something breaks. Let’s Talk About SYNCHRONICITY — Waking Up to Life’s Perfect Timing

Have you ever been in the right place at exactly the right time—without planning it?  Or followed a nudge that made no sense… only to realize later it changed everything? That’s not luck. It’s synchronicity—and it may be life’s way of getting your attention. In this episode of Stress Smarts with Colonel Deb, I share powerful personal stories of timing, intuition, and alignment, and introduce the G.R.A.C.E. framework—a practical and soulful approach to recognizing and responding to meaningful moments when life is guiding you. In this episode, you’ll learn how to live in G.R.A.C.E.: G – Gratitude Opens the Way Shifts your state and prepares you to receive what’s next. R – Release Rigid Plans Plans help—but clinging to the “how” can cause you to miss the “wow.” A – Align with Your Intention Clarity creates magnetism. Purpose draws the right moments and people. C – Confidently Expect the Unseen Intuition, signals, and patterns are real—and worth trusting. E – Embrace Divine Timing Some of the best things arrive late, unexpectedly, or after loss—yet right on time. 💥 THE TRANSFORMATION When you begin living in rhythm with G.R.A.C.E., you stop forcing.  You stop blaming.  You start co-creating. You stop asking “Why did this happen to me?”  And instead ask, “What if this happened for me?” These episodes are adapted from my live Facebook series, Let’s Talk About…, where I share real tools for rising stronger. Let’s Talk About FAIRNESS — When Life Doesn’t Feel Fair

You followed the rules.  You worked hard.  You stayed kind, showed up early, and gave your best. And still… something felt unfair. In this episode of Stress Smarts with Colonel Deb, Doug and I talk honestly about fairness—not as a slogan, but as a lived experience. From West Point to leadership decisions, from everyday frustrations to deeply painful injustices, we explore what to do when life doesn’t cooperate. This episode introduces my F.A.I.R. framework, a practical way to respond to unfairness without becoming bitter, reactive, or stuck: F — Face Facts Without Flinching Be honest about what happened—no sugarcoating, no minimizing. A — Adjust Your Aim Redirect your energy toward your values, goals, and future—not resentment or revenge. I — Introduce Infinite-Win Look beyond short-term outcomes to choices that benefit others and create lasting impact. R — Respond Instead of React Pause, breathe, and choose your next move with wisdom rather than impulse. Fairness may not show up when you want it to—but strength, clarity, and leadership always can.
