Zach Beutler of Beutler Cattle CO.

This  episode features host Scott Beck interviewing Zach Beutler, founder of Beutler Cattle Company, recorded live at Pender Livestock in Pender, Nebraska — Zach's family's sale barn his grandfather bought in 1969. Zach's Background: Zach grew up in the sale barn business but left home at 18, eventually moving to Tallahassee, Florida to run a supplement/nutrition franchise. He grew it to 6-7 locations, hit an $8M revenue goal, then lost everything — going bankrupt after Amazon and digital advertising disrupted his e-commerce model. He rebuilt, eventually running a portfolio company with 9 home service franchise brands and ~1,500 locations nationwide. Despite corporate success, he wanted to get back to cattle. Getting Into Cattle: Around 2018-2019, Zach moved back to Nebraska, bought an abandoned 20-acre property, and purchased his first 10 registered Simmental cows at the Badger Creek dispersal in Kansas (where he sat next to Dallas Woltemath and fed him jerky so he wouldn't bid against him). He shifted toward Angus for the technology and data advantages, and his uncle Chris Beutler (a well-known Simmental breeder) pointed him toward the famous Patsy cow — a Resource daughter that flushed 20+ embryos per cycle and became the launchpad for Beutler Cattle Company's embryo sales business. Business Model & Buying Philosophy: Zach runs a lean operation without inherited land or deep capital. His strategy: buy interest in proven donor cows, flush them heavily, sell embryos to offset costs, and reinvest. His criteria for buying a cow, in order: Marketability — proven progeny, a story you can build around Phenotype — bigger framed, deep-bodied, wedge-shaped, with power Genomic competitiveness — doesn't chase extreme numbers but needs solid performance Pedigree — strong cow family behind her, clean sire side Structural soundness — good feet and udder are non-negotiable Affordability — creative deals, partnerships, persistenceThe October 19th Frozen Genetics Sale on CCI.Live: The second half of the episode walks through the sale catalog lot by lot. Key donors featured include: LT Nora 0247 — Zach's personal favorite, a Sunny Boy daughter found at Lindskoog's, first-ever embryos offered (by Inevitable)Lawson's Chloe C815 — a 10-year-old matriarch with 70+ daughters in 22 herds, top 1% $M and $WBlair's West Erica 44F — a Renown daughter out of the legendary 74A cowColeman Donna 7100 — a Resource daughter out of the famous 714 Donna, chased for 18 monthsSAV Black Cap May 4136D clone — a clone of arguably the most famous cow in Angus historyMohnen Abigail 7319 — a newer donor partnered on with Scott KatasColeman Donna 439 — dam of Glacier, top income-producing Donna 714 daughterPlus deceased donors: 3525 (dam of Quarterback), 6644 (dam of Panther), and the original Patsy cowThe sale includes heifer pregnancies, grade one embryos, unique semen lots, and partnership embryos from donors Zach doesn't fully own but markets for partners. Notable matings include Chloe x Inevitable, 7100 x High Country, 7100 x Man In Black, and 4136 clone x Inevitable.

    Delaney Cattle Summer Tour

Host Scott Beck visits Delaney Cattle in Valentine, Nebraska, for an on-location interview with Josh Delaney and his daughter Rietta. Recorded outdoors along the river on Labor Day weekend, the episode covers: The operation: Delaney Cattle is a cow-focused Angus breeding program built around three foundational cow families — the 801, the 1500 (a $2,750 dispersion purchase that became a cornerstone matron), and the 5016. Josh emphasizes breeding cows, not numbers, and has built a tight 30–36 day calving interval by strictly culling late breeders.Clipping & semen services: Beyond the breeding program, Josh runs Delaney Cattle Services — now in its 10th season, clipping roughly 9,000–10,000 head of bulls per winter with a 10-person crew. He also reps semen for ST Genetics and Alta Genetics, and sells private semen including the Highway 83 bull.First bull sale: Their inaugural production sale last February sold 12 bulls, averaging $12,250 with a $21,000 high seller, promoted entirely through Facebook and word-of-mouth with no paid advertising.Standout cattle: Scott highlights the 611 bull (an Eternity son) as one of the best calves he's seen all year, along with the 601 (by Highway 83 out of a Fair N Square cow) and the 616 ET calf.Rietta's role: Rietta's daily interaction with the cattle gives them their signature docile disposition — the bulls have been "Rietta-ed." She shares stories about her show cattle, her family's Louisiana fishing trips, and closes the episode by singing "Jolene" and the National Anthem.Upcoming sale: Delaney Cattle's second bull sale is set for the last Saturday in February in Valentine. Contact Josh at 308-360-1974 or find Delaney Cattle on Facebook and Snapchat.

    Macholan Angus Summer Tour

Host Scott Beck visits Macholan Angus in Linwood, Nebraska, for an in-depth herd tour with Keaton Macholan. Recorded on August 6th under ideal overcast conditions, the episode covers the operation's impressive cattle program heading into their 7th annual bull sale — held the first Tuesday in March at the Columbus Sales Pavilion in Columbus, Nebraska. Scott and Keaton walk through the entire herd and highlight what's shaping up to be perhaps the best set of bulls Macholan Angus has ever raised. Out of nearly 60 head, only five weighed under 700 pounds — a standout result given the drought conditions earlier in the year. Key topics include: Home-raised sires stealing the show: Marathon and Summit, both bred at Macholan Angus, are producing calves that rival or exceed the AI-sired groups. Scott and Keaton discuss several standout Marathon and Summit bull calves and heifers, including a thick, deep Marathon calf out of a young second calver.Tetons: A sire used on heifers that threw heavy, growthy, easy-calving bull calves with great commercial appeal, along with feminine, wedge-shaped females.Significant: A bull whose calves were highlights of last year's sale, with another tremendous bull calf out of the 1803 donor cow this year. Significant females are being retained.Iceman: A Foxhoven-bred cleanup bull whose heifer calves are turning heads.Cow families: Discussion of standout donors including Lady No Doubt, Marathon's mother (a third calver already being flushed), and Hollywood daughters raising exceptional calves on limited resources. The "miracle heifer": Keaton shares the story of a Marathon heifer calf that survived 28 hours alone in a January blizzard — no frozen ears, no mother — found by his wife in the corn field. She's now a beautiful heifer and is staying put.Breeding plans for the coming year: Keaton reveals the sires he's using for next year's calf crop, including a heavy emphasis on homegrown sires (Marathon, Summit) alongside outside AI sires like Foxhoven's Stamina, SAV Gravity, Eternity, and his own lot 1 and lot 14 bulls from the previous sale. The episode wraps with a round of Fast Money — a Family Feud-style game where Keaton answers five questions and puts up one of the highest scores in the show's history. Listeners can reach Macholan Angus at 402-615-2824, online at macholanangus.com, or on Facebook and Instagram. Herd visits are welcome.

Scott Angus Cattle - Ranch Tour

Host Scott Beck visits Scott Angus Cattle in Belgrade, Nebraska, for an in-depth Ranch tour with father-and-son duo Marlin and Sam Scott. This ~58-minute episode is a detailed walkthrough of the Scott Angus cow herd, covering multiple pastures and the genetics behind their program. Key topics covered: SAC Hold The Phone — A homegrown SAC bull (out of the legendary 200B cow) that Scott Beck calls the standout sire of the tour. His bull calves and heifer calves are described as some of the best cattle Beck has seen, with exceptional fertility (80–90% AI conception rates), jet-black coats, and strong phenotype. Other sires discussed — Boyd Bedrock, Schieffelbein Top Gun, Ellingson Declare, Baldridge Badger , Ellingson High Country, SAV Territory , SAC Nebraskaland, and the newly purchased Sitz Phenom bull (a joint purchase with Bob Harrell of Oregon), which Marlin acquired at the Sitz sale. Cow families and genetics — Deep discussion of the 200B cow family, the 1241 "America" cow, the 1312 cow, the 139Z cow (still producing embryos at 14 years old), and the Badger 7201 heifer that's already gaining attention on social media. Pasture-by-pasture tour — The WRP pasture (registered cows with AI'd bull calves), the Imus pasture (mature ET bulls, and the spot where Sam proposed to his wife), the heifer pasture west of grandma's (ET heifers including Territory 9811 flush sisters), first-calf heifer pairs, and the Greeks pasture (registered cows with Hold The Phone heifer calves). Family and legacy — Marlin reflects on the ranch's history (his grandfather started it in the late 1920s), the transition to the next generation (Sam, Stephanie, AJ, and Abby), and his gratitude for his wife Kelly's partnership. Sam shares his progression in the operation and his passion for the cattle business. Personal stories — Sam's proposal story at the Imus pasture, a hilarious Nate Schuster proposal anecdote, and Beck's own proposal gone wrong.
