014: The Day of the Lord A Word to the Affluent & Influential (Amos 5:18–27)

Send us a text This episode is a sober, loving call to self-examination. If you’ve ever equated comfort with God’s approval, Amos reminds us: the Day of the Lord is light for those walking in His ways—and darkness for those who’ve lost the plot. We talk idolatry, justice, “golden age” delusions, and how to return to first love with humility and integrity. What You’ll Hear in This Episode Why longing for “the Day of the Lord” without living set apart is dangerous (Amos 5:18–20)The difference between worship God receives and worship He rejects (Amos 5:21–23)God’s demand: justice like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream (Amos 5:24)A word to the comfortable: prosperity without mercy leads to exile (Amos 6:3–7)Cultural critique: influence, platforms, and the poor—how we’ve “lost the plot”A simple four-step pattern for repentance: Reveal, Repent, Renounce, ReplaceScripture to Meditate On Amos 5:18–27 — The Day of the Lord; rejected worship; justice & righteousnessAmos 6:3–7 — Woe to the complacent and comfortableAmos 8:11–13 — A famine of hearing the word of the LordMicah 6:8 — Do justice, love mercy, walk humblyJames 1:27 — Pure religion: care for the vulnerable, keep unstained from the worldMatthew 7:21–23 — Not everyone who says “Lord, Lord…”Ancient Self-Care Practice (Doable This Week) The 4 R’s of Repentance Reveal – Name where you’ve drifted (idols, apathy, self-promotion).Repent – Ask for mercy and a clean heart.Renounce – Break agreement with pride, greed, and performative religion.Replace – Practice justice and mercy in concrete ways (give, serve, reconcile).Reflection Prompts Where have I confused applause with approval from God?What “good things” (comfort, brand, growth) have become functional idols? How can I let justice “roll” through my platform, budget, and calendar this week?Complimentary Gift for Your Stay 3-Day Amos Reading Path (no download needed): Day 1: Amos 1–3 (God’s charges)Day 2: Amos 4–6 (Rejected worship; justice & righteousness)Day 3: Amos 7–9 (Visions; restoration hope) Read slowly; pray, “Search me, O God,” after each section.Bonus Treat: Peach Sabbath Spritz (NA) 4 oz non-alcoholic sparkling peach (like Stella Rosa NA Peach)2 oz sparkling waterSqueeze of lemon + 2–3 muddled blueberriesServe over ice; garnish with basil.  Sip while you journal—and let His word refresh you more than the drink.Your Invitation Don’t long for the Day of the Lord while living like everyone else. Send us a text This episode is a gentle but honest nudge for anyone who’s starting to confuse the work with their worth. Your identity is not in your “calling,” your title, or your productivity. 012: What if Your Suffering is a Result of His Favor?

Send us a text We often think God’s favor means life is smooth — bills paid, passports stamped, and shopping bags in hand. But Hosea 2 reminds us that sometimes His favor looks like pruning, pressing, and even wilderness seasons. Not because He’s punishing us…but because He loves us too much to let our hearts stay tied to idols. In this episode of Sow in Love, I’m sharing how a family trip to Miami turned into a reminder about overconsumption, discipline, and the Lord’s way of drawing us back to Him. We unpack Hosea 2:19 together and talk about how God uses the wilderness—not as rejection, but as restoration. What You’ll Learn in This Episode: Why God sometimes allows discomfort as an act of loveHow Hosea reveals the Father’s heart for a wayward peopleThe difference between “Egypt” (bondage) and the wilderness (training ground)Why your suffering may actually be evidence of God’s favorHow to trust Him when comfort is stripped awayScriptures to Meditate On: Hosea 2:19 — “I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion.”Exodus 3–14 — God delivers His people from EgyptPsalm 30:5 — “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”Complimentary Gift for Your Stay This week, I’m reading Life Without Lack by Dallas Willard, and it has been a powerful reminder that God is always enough. I encourage you to grab a copy—it will shift your perspective on provision and trust. Your Invitation If you’re in a wilderness season, know this: God hasn’t abandoned you. He may be leading you away from Egypt (bondage, idols, hustle culture) and into a place where you can finally hear His voice again. Favor comes in many flavors—and sometimes the sweetest fruit grows out of the hardest soil. 011: What They Don't Tell You About Being An Influencer AKA Content Creator

Send us a text This week I’m continuing the conversation on fasting and sharing another round of vulnerability—wrapped in grace. Last episode I opened up about failing forward in a 7-day water fast. This week, the Lord brought conviction in a way I wasn’t expecting…through the Ten Commandments. I thought “Thou shalt not murder” was the easiest one to keep—until the Holy Spirit reminded me of my own past. In today’s episode, I’m pulling the curtains back on abortion, gossip, and character assassination…and what it really means to keep this commandment. This isn’t about shame. It’s about truth, repentance, and the freedom Jesus offers when we confess and turn away. We also dive into Psalm 49 together—a heavy but necessary reminder that wealth, status, and influence all fade away. Only what we build for the Kingdom will last. What You’ll Learn in This Episode: Why conviction is actually a gift from GodHow “murder” can show up not just in action, but in our wordsThe difference between being a Christian (label) and a disciple (lifestyle)Why repentance must include turning away, not just saying sorryHow Psalm 49 reframes wealth, influence, and what truly mattersScriptures to Meditate On: Exodus 20 — The Ten CommandmentsPsalm 49 — A reminder of life’s true valueMatthew 11:28 — “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”Complimentary Gift for Your Stay This week, I invite you to practice honesty before God. Take one area where you’ve been convicted (big or small) and journal it out. Confess it before the Lord, then write one way you’ll turn away from it this week. This is your step toward not just being a Christian—but becoming a disciple. Let’s Stay Connected Extend your stay by subscribing, and upgrade your accommodations by turning on notifications so you never miss a chance to rest, reset, and be renewed here at the Sow in Love Inn. And don’t forget to share this episode with a friend who needs the reminder: God forgives, God restores, and God makes all things new. Onward in holiness,  Jamaya

010: Why Is Fasting So Hard | How To Prepare For Battle!

Send us a text Fren, let’s be honest—fasting is hard! In this episode, I’m sharing my real, raw, and slightly hilarious journey of attempting a 7-day water fast. Spoiler alert: I made it to day six before tapping out. But even in what felt like defeat, God revealed powerful lessons about preparation, discipline, and what it truly means to fight spiritual battles. This isn’t just about food—it’s about faith. I learned that fasting isn’t just about saying no to your plate, it’s about saying yes to preparation, prayer, and precision in the Word of God. Because when the battle comes, we can’t just swing a big sword—we need a dagger, a specific word that cuts through the enemy’s schemes with precision. So if you’ve ever struggled with fasting, felt too weak to finish, or wondered why your “yes” to God still feels so hard—this episode is for you. What You’ll Learn in This Episode: Why fasting without preparation leaves us spiritually vulnerableThe difference between the sword (general Word) and the dagger (specific Word)Why God calls us to precision in scripture when fighting spiritual battlesHow Jesus’ invitation to follow Him is about discipleship, not just identityA refresher on the Ten Commandments—and why going “back to basics” matters for our spiritual walkScriptures to Meditate On: Matthew 4:4 — “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”Ephesians 6:17 — The sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.Exodus 20 — The Ten Commandments (a call back to our foundation)Complimentary Gift for Your Stay This week’s resource is Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer. It’s a phenomenal book on discipleship and spiritual formation, and it will help you build rhythms of prayer, Sabbath, and intentional living as a follower of Christ. Highly recommend adding this one to your library! Let’s Stay Connected If this episode blessed or encouraged you, extend your stay by subscribing and upgrade your accommodations by turning on notifications—you’ll never miss an episode. And don’t forget to share this with a friend who may be walking through their own “battle season.” Onward in holiness,  Jamaya

009: They Plot, But We Pray! (PPPE)

Send us a text This week, we’re pivoting into a word that’s been stirring heavy in my spirit: They plot, but we pray, plan, and execute. Sometimes, when God calls us to step into something new, distractions, fear, and even haters pop up to try and knock us off course. But the story of Nehemiah reminds us that no matter how loud the opposition gets, prayer is our weapon, and obedience is our strategy. In this episode, I’m unpacking Nehemiah’s boldness, the ridicule he faced while rebuilding Jerusalem’s wall, and the reminder that when God calls, He also provides. If He gave you the assignment, Fren, He will also resource the vision. What You’ll Learn in This Episode: How Nehemiah moved from comfort to calling with courage and prayerWhy prayer is always the first step before planning and executingThe different types of prayers Nehemiah used (confession, supplication, adoration, judgment)How to recognize distractions and opposition as plots—not stop signsWhy your identity isn’t in your calling but in ChristScriptures to Meditate On: Nehemiah 1–4 (Nehemiah’s call, prayer, and opposition)1 Thessalonians 5:17 — Pray without ceasing.Matthew 11:28 — Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.Reflection Prompts for This Week: What’s one thing God may be calling you to do that feels uncomfortable right now? What distractions or “plots” have been keeping you from moving forward? How can you create a prayer strategy before planning and executing this week?Complimentary Gift for Your Stay As promised, here’s your gift: Meditation & Journaling Music + Visuals . I recommend streaming it on your TV, letting the smooth jazz and calming visuals set the tone for journaling, prayer, and reflection. 008: Creating Rhythm Between Rest & Responsibility

Send us a text Today we’re continuing our series on creating a rhythm between rest and responsibilities. If you’ve ever felt stretched thin, burned out, or like you’re carrying more than you can hold—you’re not alone. Even the prophet Elijah hit his breaking point. After one of his greatest spiritual victories, he was done. Worn out. Ready to give up. And what did God prescribe? Not more striving, not another assignment—He prescribed rest, nourishment, and stillness. In this episode, I’m unpacking Elijah’s story in 1 Kings 19 and what it teaches us about burnout, Sabbath rhythms, and the beauty of slowing down before God. You’ll also get some practical reflection prompts and simple practices to help you release the hustle and reclaim soul care. What You’ll Learn in This Episode: Why Elijah’s burnout story matters for us today (1 Kings 19)How God meets us in our weakness with rest and provisionWhy rest isn’t laziness—it’s obedience and trustPractical reflection prompts for slowing down and breathing againWays to create a rhythm of Sabbath and intentional stillness in your weekReflection Prompts for You: Where do I feel emotionally or spiritually dry right now? What’s one part of my routine I could release to make space for renewal?Where have I been trying to produce instead of simply being with God?Scripture to Meditate On: 1 Kings 19:1–8 — Elijah’s burnout and God’s provisionMatthew 11:28 — Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.Complimentary Gift for Your Stay This week, I’m sharing a favorite resource from my personal library: 52 Hebrew Words Every Christian Should Know. The Hebrew word tal means “dew”—a symbol of God’s quiet, constant blessing. Just like morning dew in the desert, God’s mercy shows up daily, even when we don’t notice. Look for the “dew” in your life this week. Let’s Stay Connected If you’re new here, check in by subscribing and upgrade your accommodations by turning on notifications—you’ll always get your personal invite when new episodes drop. And if you’ve been part of the Inn for a while, I’m so glad you keep coming back. Leave the hustle at the door and let’s rest together. Onward in holiness,  Jamaya
