    The Last Day of Pompeii

Send us Fan Mail Nothing was spared in bringing this historic re-creation to life. This may be Mystic Sciences Theater’s crown jewel of action, drama, and historical re-creation — the story of Pompeii’s final hours, when Mount Vesuvius destroyed the ancient city on August 24, 79 AD. For this cinematic production, voice actors were selected from the very region where the tragedy of Pompeii unfolded nearly two thousand years ago. Marcus Petronius is portrayed by Alessandro Ambrosio, a resident of modern Pompei, Italy, the city beside the ancient ruins themselves. Lucia Petronius is performed by Sandra S. from the Puglia region of Italy. Pliny the Elder, Admiral of the Roman Navy, is voiced by Marco Liguori, originally from Naples — only about 10 miles, or 16 kilometers, from ancient Pompeii. Although the production is presented primarily in English, select lines are performed in Italian to heighten the authenticity of the re-creation and draw listeners more deeply into the world of ancient Roman Italy. Nearly 15,000 people awaken beneath Mount Vesuvius. By nightfall, the sky will turn black, the mountain will explode, and only one in three will survive. This is the story of Marcus and Lucia Petronius, their young son, and their desperate escape by donkey cart through darkness, ash, fire, and terror as Pompeii dies behind them. Across the Bay of Naples, Pliny the Elder sees the monstrous cloud rising into the heavens. Rather than turn away, he sails toward the disaster, attempting to rescue those trapped near Stabiae as death rains from the sky. With intense action, surreal volcanic sound effects, dramatic music, and a historically grounded story told with no holding back, this is more than an episode. It is an immersive journey into the final hours of one of the most famous disasters in human history. Close your eyes. Listen carefully. Experience the Last day of Pompeii.
