60| Tekapo Race Reports from Sam Rout, Frances Redmond and Max Yanzick

Kia ora Welcome to a funnnn episode of several different voices besides the usual Mal and Dwayne yarning and yarning and yarning away. I don't know if you can tell at this point, but I (Mal) writes the pod description and truly believe nobody even reads this bloody thing. Anyways... Mal and Dwayne do the usual banter of training updates. Mal shares her weight training and speed sessions. She also shares insights from her previous coach in consideration to monitoring heart rate while pregnant. Dwayne updates on his training for the week. He completed 6 x 30 sec uphill and then had plans to do a 30k but cut it short to 20k because the bod wasn't feeling right. Next we get our boi Sam Rout to discuss the vibes of Race Tekapo and how he felt he did on the course. We loved talking about the Kea series, the development of Race Tekapo and potential growth it has for New Zealand Trail Races. Sam shared the terrain of Race Tekapo with the trail conditions. Thanks Sam for giving us your time! We are lucky enough to get two voices memos from our Race Tekapo 50k champs Frances Redmond and Max Yanzick. Both sharing the knowledge about the course and how their training leading up to it has been. Plus some insider plans of what their A races are for the year. Thank you Frances and Max, it was an absolute privilege to hear from you both! We have postponed the Chafing the Coin Collection the 15th November, Sunday. Start collecting your team mates for this event! It will be a fun one with killer good SPOT PRIZES!!! Keep chafing your dreamzzzzz. Byyyyyyeeeee

55| State Side. Training updates. UTMB week. And more

Kia ora haere mai Welcome to an episode that is state side. Mal and Dwayne sit down and rehash the visa status.  We do the usual training update. Dwayne being 8 weeks out from Taupo 100k. His insights and struggles with the heat of the Summer in America compared to leaving Whangarei when it was 0 degrees the day he left for America. He brings up the jet lag and struggle bus he was on for his planned 45k that turned into a 25k. Mal’s training update discusses Dr.Stephanie Mundt lifting programme for her. The programme focusing on bone strengthening exercises specifically with heavier back squats, deadlifts, and a mix of plyometrics. Mal had difficulty running for a few weeks because of the Spokane Fire evacuations and poor air quality. We dig into OCC, CCC, and UTMB talking about our favourites and predicted finishes. We discuss the excitement it will be to cheer on our local favourite, Sam Rout. We can’t wait to have him on again and discuss his experiences in Chamonix. You get to hear our predicted picks.  We close talking about the Spokane Fires and what it’s like for Dwayne to experience American culture. Dwayne describing the Washington State trails.  Mal brings up the struggles of going through National Guard and the different times of evacuating.  Don’t forget about the Watch Party for Sam Rout at the The Hut HQ in Whangarei starting at ____pm.
