I Took 8 Weeks Off and Still Got Paid. My January 2026 Earnings and the Business Model That Made It Possible

In this episode, I’m opening the books and sharing my actual earnings for January 2026. I’ve deeply appreciated other female solo entrepreneurs who have bravely shared their real numbers. It’s inspired me, and now I’m here to inspire you. Their honesty expanded my sense of what’s possible and helped dissolve so much secrecy and shame around money. This episode is my way of paying that forward. Inside this conversation, I share • My total revenue for January 2026 • Exactly where that income came from • Why I earned money while not working for two months • And my best tip to help you create the same For the eight weeks leading up to February, I barely worked at all. I was on holiday. Then I needed to step back for health reasons. I showed up for a few meetings here and there. The occasional email. Some light social media. That was it. And yet, my business still generated income. Not because of hustle. I did none. Not because of constant output. But because of how I’ve intentionally structured my birth business over time. This episode is an honest look at what it means to build a sustainable, values led, cyclical business as one woman. One body. One nervous system. One life that sometimes needs rest, pause, and spaciousness. If you’re a birth worker who wants to • Step away without everything collapsing • Build income streams that don’t rely on being “on” all the time • Create a business that supports your life and health, not drains it • Stop trading constant presence for survival This episode is for you. And if you’re feeling the pull to build this kind of foundation for yourself, the Business Course for Birth Workers is now open with an early bird offer throughout February. When you join in February, you save $1,000, with the course beginning on March 23rd. I created this course to help birth workers build businesses that are sustainable and supportive of a woman’s real, cyclical life. Not burnout. Not constant visibility. Not self sacrifice. If you’re ready to create a business that can hold you through rest, seasons, and change, I would love to walk beside you. Find out more at sacredbirthinternational.com

  3. How to respond to the question "Is it really worth having a Doula?"

    JAN 15

How to respond to the question "Is it really worth having a Doula?"

This episode is a special replay from the WOMAN podcast hosted by my beautiful Sacred Birth Worker graduate and doula, Maria-Lisa. She has been running her birth business and podcast successfully in Berlin for the past few years, and I’ve had the joy of being invited on multiple times. I wanted to bring this conversation over to the Sacred Birth Work & Biz Podcast because it speaks directly to something every independent birth worker encounters sooner or later: How do you confidently answer the question, “Is it really worth the money to hire a doula?” So many of you tell me you face this exact question in consultations, community conversations, and casual encounters. And it can feel confronting, especially when you are heart-aligned, service-oriented, and not naturally inclined toward “selling” yourself. Who is, really? In this episode, you’ll hear us explore: • Why this question arises so often• What to say when someone asks, “Why should I pay for a doula if there are midwives and doctors at the hospital — or if I’m planning a home birth?”• How to share evidence-based benefits of continuous support without sounding defensive or salesy• How to lovingly reframe the conversation around worth, value, safety, and the long-term wellbeing of the whole family• Why partners cannot and should not be expected to carry the entire load alone• How to clearly explain that a doula works only for the birthing woman, not the hospital and not the institution You’ll also hear powerful language you can borrow when someone says: “I don’t want to spend the money.”“Isn’t a doula just a luxury?”“My partner can do that.” This conversation is honest, grounded, and deeply validating of the work we do as independent birth workers. It reminds us that we’re not offering “extra support”, we’re offering continuity, advocacy, emotional and spiritual safety, trauma prevention, and a presence that can truly change the trajectory of a woman’s birth experience. If you’ve ever felt unsure how to articulate your worth, found yourself discounting your fees, or stumbled when someone questioned the investment, this episode will give you the clarity, language, and confidence you need. Let this be your reminder: Your work has immense value.Your presence changes birth outcomes.Your support is worth investing in. Tune in, take notes, and use whatever resonates next time someone asks you the question we all know well: “Is having a doula really worth it?”

  4. Leaving Academics & Becoming a Doula & Starting 2 Doula Business in The Netherlands & Slovenia

    12/24/2025

Leaving Academics & Becoming a Doula & Starting 2 Doula Business in The Netherlands & Slovenia

In this inspiring episode of the birth worker series, I sit down with Nina, a doula from Slovenia whose path into birth work began in one of the most unexpected places. Before she ever imagined becoming a doula, Nina traveled to Greece to volunteer with refugee families, offering support to mothers and children in crisis. It was there she was asked to attend births for refugee women, and in those raw, powerful moments something awakened in her. The calling to serve women in the birth portal took root.   Nina later trained as a doula in the Netherlands, where her family lived as expats, and where she built her very first birth business from the ground up. She shares what it was like to begin her journey in a foreign country, how she found her community, and how she created a successful doula practice far from home.   After several years, her family returned to Slovenia, and Nina had to rebuild everything from scratch. In this episode she tells the story of letting go of the business she had created, landing back in her home country, and having the courage to begin again. Today she runs a thriving birth business with a beautiful studio in the heart of Slovenia’s capital city, supporting families with full dedication and a client load of four births each month.  We talk about what she loves most about being a birth worker, the women she has served, and the differences she has experienced working as a doula in both the Netherlands and Slovenia. Nina also shares her evolution as an entrepreneur and how she is now expanding her work online to reach more women while creating more balance and freedom in her life.   Her story is one of devotion, resilience, reinvention and following the call of birth work wherever it leads.   Curious about Nina? Find her on Instagram at @ljubljanskadoula   Want to join The Sacred Birth Worker Mentorship, The Business Course for Birth Workers, or explore any of Anna’s offerings?  Find more info at www.sacredbirthinternational.com
