    Character Motivation

    Unlikeable Characters

    Send in a question about writing you'd like to see answered on the show! Writing has evolved over time, but lately, it doesn't seem like it's for the better. Whether it be books, TV shows or movies, we're all seeing a decline in quality in scripts and productions and fumbling marketing moves that make no sense. This means that it is getting genuinely harder and harder to find pieces of fiction to enjoy and get attached to. It doesn't help that unlikeable characters are running rampant in a lot of stories. We need these unlikeable characters - they help make our stories more interesting - but there is a way to do it right and keep the story engaging.     Back Story

Over the last two years, I have been working heavily on the front end of my third fantasy novel for the series, A Royal Life, and I've finally reached the midway section to realise that not only is the ending of the novel going to change once again, but that the tail end of the story is going to be much easier to write.  Why is it going to be so much easier to write? Because the tail end has a lot less to do with the characters back story.  It's really tricky to integrate characters back stories without info dumps, so today we're discussing the importance of knowing a character's back story to avoid that and instead create a smoother reading experience for your readers.  🌟This episode will be available for every listener for the first three months from date of publication.
