Architect Your Calendar and Energy: Make Time for What Matters Most | Late Summer Reset, Part 3

Episode 48 Show Notes Architect Your Calendar and Energy: Make Time for What Matters Most Clarity to Commitment: A Late Summer Reset — Part 3 You can say your health matters. Your marriage matters. Your faith matters. Your family matters. Your goals matter. But eventually, what matters has to compete for actual space in a 24-hour day. And your calendar tells the truth. In Part 3 of the Clarity to Commitment: A Late Summer Reset series, Rev. Dr. Juliet Spencer—Certified High Performance Coach known as The Decision Architect—challenges you to stop creating schedules for the person you wish you were and start designing your time around the life you actually want to live. Managing your time without managing your energy is incomplete. Drawing from the example of Jesus intentionally withdrawing to pray even while needs remained, Juliet explores why rest isn't something you earn after everything is finished. It's one of the decisions you make about how you will do the work. You'll  learn a practical four-part framework for architecting your week: What deserves your best energy?  What needs a boundary? Where will recovery happen? What are you willing to leave undone in this season? As Craig Groeschel puts it: “Schedule your values.” Your calendar doesn't need to be rigid or perfectly optimized. It needs to bear some resemblance to the life you say you want to live.   Your Move This Week: Take out your calendar and identify one place where your schedule contradicts what you say matters. Then make one structural change. Move something. Remove something. Protect something. Schedule something. You don't need to redesign your entire life. You need to make one decision that brings your calendar back into alignment with what matters most. Architects don't simply admire the blueprint; they build! Scripture  Psalm 90:12 (NRSV) “So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart.” Luke 5:16 (NRSV) “But he would withdraw to deserted places and pray.” Remember: Everyone deserves the opportunity to make a good decision. And your best decisions come when you remember that your identity isn't rooted in how much you accomplish. Your identity is rooted in the love of God. In This Episode: You'll discover how to: Align your calendar with what you say matters most Work with your natural energy instead of pretending it's unlimited Stop automatically giving your best energy to whatever shouts the loudest Use boundaries as architecture rather than punishment Build recovery into your schedule before exhaustion demands it Decide intentionally what will remain undone in this season Make one practical change before September begins Goals & Grace with Rev. Dr. Juliet Spencer Protect what matters. Make the decision your future self will thank you for, and give yourself grace for the rest! Want some help putting all of this into practice? When everything feels important, it's easy to spread your energy across dozens of good ideas while never fully committing to the one that matters most. In this episode of Goals & Grace, Rev. Dr. Juliet Spencer explores why clarity isn't enough—you must also choose. As part of the Late Summer Reset series, you'll learn why high performers don't try to do everything. #46 Before You Decide: Identity Before Every Great Decision (Late Summer Reset Week 1)

Before You Decide: Why Identity Comes Before Every Great Decision A Late Summer Reset – Week One What if the most important decision you'll make this fall isn't what you'll do... but who you'll become? As summer winds down and a new season approaches, many of us begin setting goals, making plans, and filling our calendars. But before you decide where you're going next, there's a more important question to ask: Who is God inviting you to become? In the first episode of our new five-part series, A Late Summer Reset: From Clarity to Commitment, Rev. Dr. Juliet Spencer explores why lasting change doesn't begin with goals—it begins with identity. Drawing from the story of Gideon in Judges 6, Juliet reminds us that God often sees who we're becoming long before we do. When we understand our identity as God's beloved workmanship, our decisions begin to reflect that truth. In this episode you'll discover: • Why identity always precedes healthy decision-making • How fear and outdated labels quietly shape your choices • What Gideon's story teaches us about courage and calling • A simple exercise to clarify who you are in this season of life • One practical Grace Step to help you begin your own Late Summer Reset Key Quote "The quality of your decisions will never consistently rise above the clarity of your identity. And your identity is rooted in the love of God." Scripture Judges 6:11–16  (NRSV) This Week's Grace Step: Complete these three statements: • In this season, I am... • In this season, I choose to show up... • I want to be known for... Read them every morning before opening your email or looking at your calendar. Celebrate Small Wins: Build Momentum That Lasts | Decision Fitness Part 12

Celebrate Small Wins: Build Momentum That Lasts Decision Fitness Part 12 Have you ever finished something important...and immediately moved on to the next goal? No celebration. No gratitude. No pause. Just the pressure to accomplish the next thing. In this final episode of the Decision Fitness series, we're exploring one of the most overlooked habits of high performers: celebrating small wins. Sustainable momentum isn't built by waiting for massive breakthroughs—it grows when we notice faithful progress one decision at a time. Drawing from Joshua 4 and the Israelites' memorial stones, Rev. Dr. Juliet Spencer explains why remembering what God has already done is one of the most powerful ways to build confidence, strengthen identity, and continue moving forward with purpose. If you've ever struggled with feeling like you're never doing enough, this episode offers a healthier, faith-filled way to measure success. In this episode you'll discover: Why waiting for "big victories" can quietly drain your motivation The psychology behind the Progress Principle and why small wins matter What Joshua's memorial stones teach us about remembering God's faithfulness How celebrating progress strengthens confidence without feeding pride A simple weekly reflection practice that builds lasting momentum Why gratitude transforms achievement into worship How to finish the Decision Fitness journey with habits you can carry into every season Key Scripture Joshua 4 — The Memorial Stones "These stones shall be to the Israelites a memorial forever." This Week's Challenge This week, try these four simple practices: Schedule a 10-minute weekly reflection. Record three small wins each day. Share one win with someone who encourages you. Thank God for every step of progress—no matter how small. Because momentum isn't built by giant leaps. It's built through faithful decisions repeated over time. Boundaries That Protect What Matters | Decision Fitness Part 11

Boundaries That Protect What Matters | Decision Fitness Part 11 Do you ever feel like your calendar has become public property? One request becomes another. A quick favor turns into an hour. Before long, your priorities have quietly disappeared beneath everyone else's emergencies. In this episode of Goals & Grace, Rev. Dr. Juliet Spencer explores why healthy boundaries aren't selfish; they're one of the most loving decisions you can make for your future, your family, your work, and your faith. If you've struggled to protect your time without feeling guilty, this episode will help you create boundaries that are both gracious and effective. You'll discover why boundaries aren't about keeping people out, they're making room for what matters most. In this episode you'll learn: • Why most boundary problems are actually clarity problems • How to define your personal and professional nonnegotiables • The power of protecting your Prolific Quality Output (PQO) block • Practical ways to reduce interruptions at work and at home • Why scheduling communication can dramatically increase productivity • A simple script for saying "no" without guilt or over-explaining • How healthy boundaries strengthen relationships instead of hurting them • Why protecting your energy is just as important as protecting your calendar • What Jesus teaches us about saying "yes" to our calling without saying "yes" to every request Whether you're leading a business, serving your family, managing a ministry, or simply trying to live with greater peace, healthy boundaries create the space where purpose can flourish. This week's challenge: Choose one boundary at home and one at work. Write them down. Communicate them clearly. Then keep the promise. Your future self—and the people you love most—will thank you. Scripture Throughout the Gospels, Jesus models healthy boundaries by intentionally withdrawing to pray, focusing on his mission, and refusing to be driven by every demand for his attention. Review, Refine, Repeat: The Weekly Habit That Keeps Your Goals on Track | Decision Fitness Part 10

Review, Refine, Repeat: The Weekly Habit That Keeps Your Goals on Track (Decision Fitness Part 10) Have you ever looked at your calendar halfway through the month and wondered where the time went? You weren't lazy. You weren't wasting time. You were busy. But somehow the goals that mattered most barely moved. In this episode of Goals & Grace, Rev. Dr. Juliet Spencer explores one of the most powerful habits used by high performers: Review. Refine. Repeat. Real progress doesn't disappear overnight—it slips away one busy day at a time. Without regular reflection, urgent tasks slowly replace important priorities. In this practical, faith-centered episode, you'll learn how a simple weekly and monthly review can help you stop drifting, regain clarity, and make consistent progress toward your best life. Drawing from High Performance coaching principles, personal experience, and Scripture, Juliet shares a simple rhythm that brings greater focus, peace, and intentionality to every area of life. In this episode you'll learn: • Why being busy is not the same as making meaningful progress • The difference between discipline and intentional reflection • How monthly and weekly reviews create lasting momentum • Ten life areas worth evaluating each month • Why small improvements produce extraordinary long-term results • How to avoid the common traps that keep people stuck • The three-question weekly review that takes less than two minutes • Why "Who do I choose to be?" is still one of the most powerful questions you can ask Scripture Psalm 139:23–24 (NRSV) "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."  Key Takeaway Transformation rarely happens because of dramatic change. It happens because we're willing to pause, evaluate honestly, make one meaningful adjustment, and begin again. Review. Refine. Repeat. This Week's Challenge Spend just two minutes asking yourself: • What worked last week? • What didn't? • What one outcome would make this week meaningful? Then schedule two focused time blocks on your calendar that support that priority. Connect with Juliet: Juliet would love to hear from you. What has this Decision Fitness series meant to you? Recover, Don't Rationalize: How to Get Back on Track After a Setback | Decision Fitness Part 9

Recover, Don't Rationalize: How to Get Back on Track Quickly | Decision Fitness Part 9 Have you ever promised yourself, "I'll start again Monday"? Maybe you missed a workout, put off an important project, lost your patience, or let a good habit slip. Before long, one missed moment turns into days—or even weeks—of feeling discouraged and stuck. Here's the good news: your success isn't determined by whether you stumble. It's determined by how quickly you recover. In Part 9 of the Decision Fitness series, Rev. Dr. Juliet Spencer explores one of the most overlooked habits of high performers: recovering without rationalizing. Instead of allowing guilt, excuses, or perfectionism to keep you on the sidelines, you'll learn how to shorten the gap between a setback and a comeback. Drawing from the science of high performance and the wisdom of Scripture, Juliet shares practical strategies to help you reset your focus, rebuild momentum, and move forward with confidence—one faithful decision at a time. In this episode, you'll discover: • Why one missed day doesn't have to become a missed week.• The difference between rationalizing your setbacks and recovering from them.• A simple four-step recovery process you can use anytime life gets off track.• Why shame keeps you stuck—but grace helps you move forward.• How shortening your "recovery time" can dramatically improve your consistency.• Why God is more interested in your willingness to return than your ability to be perfect. Whether you've fallen behind on your goals, your health, your spiritual life, or an important project, this episode will encourage you to stop waiting for the perfect moment and take your next faithful step today. Scripture Reflection Throughout Scripture, we see imperfect people who stumbled, failed, and wandered—but God continually invited them back. Peter denied Jesus. Jonah ran in the opposite direction. The disciples often misunderstood Jesus' teaching. Their stories remind us that God's grace is found not in perfection, but in our willingness to return. This Week's Challenge Identify one area where you've been making excuses instead of making progress. Then schedule one recovery block within the next 24 hours. Set a timer. Eliminate distractions. Take one meaningful step forward. Remember: You don't need a perfect restart. You just need a next step. If this episode encouraged you, please subscribe, leave a review, and share it with a friend who could use a reminder that one setback doesn't define their future. In this episode of *Goals & Grace*, Rev. Dr. Juliet Spencer continues the Decision Fitness series by exploring a simple but powerful truth: Every distraction is a decision. Notifications, emails, interruptions, and "real quick" tasks may seem harmless in the moment, but over time they can keep us from making progress on the work that matters most. Drawing from the story of Nehemiah rebuilding Jerusalem's walls, Juliet shares practical strategies for protecting your focus, setting healthy boundaries, and creating distraction-proof blocks of time that allow meaningful work to get done. If you've ever struggled with procrastination, overwhelm, lack of focus, or feeling pulled in too many directions, this episode will help you reclaim your attention and move forward with greater clarity, purpose, and peace. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why every distraction is actually a decision  What Nehemiah can teach us about protecting our priorities How to create effective focus blocks that increase productivity Why motivation isn't usually the problem The difference between being busy and making progress How to reduce interruptions and protect your attention A simple first-minute ritual to improve focus How to use a Friday Finishers List to reduce stress and increase follow-through Why boundaries are essential for meaningful work Key Quote "Every distraction is a decision. Every focused block of time is a decision, too."  Scripture: Nehemiah 6:3 (NRSV) "I am doing a great work and I cannot come down."  Reflection Questions 1. What is the single most important task or project that deserves your attention this week? 2. What distractions most frequently pull you away from that priority? 3. Where do you need stronger boundaries around your time and attention? 4. Are you struggling with motivation—or are you struggling to protect what matters most? 5. What would change if you treated your priorities as worthy of protection? This Week's Challenge: Choose your single most important deliverable for tomorrow. Schedule one distraction-free focus block with a clear finish line. Protect it. Communicate it. Honor it. Then notice what happens when you give your best work the space it needs to flourish. Connect with Juliet: If you're ready to move from overwhelm to clarity and create sustainable habits that support both professional success and spiritual well-being, learn more about the Purpose and Peace Pathway coaching program.
