    The Serial Killer They Let Go | Arthur Shawcross- The Genesee River Serial Killer

Arthur Shawcross—also known as the Genesee River Killer—was convicted of murdering two children in 1972. After serving just fourteen years, he was declared “rehabilitated,” his criminal record sealed, and quietly released back into society without notifying local police. Less than a year later, women began disappearing along the Genesee River in Rochester, New York. Over the next two years, Shawcross murdered twelve women before finally being caught standing over the body of one of his victims. This episode examines not only Shawcross’s crimes, but the systemic failures that allowed a known child killer to walk free—and kill again. From ignored psychiatric warnings to sealed records and institutional denial, this is a case study in how monsters slip through the cracks.
