🚨 CHARGERS NEWS! Today, Andrew McFarland breaks down PFF's bye-week grades for the 0-6 Los Angeles Chargers. PFF ranks the team 31st overall, with the offense 32nd, the defense 15th and special teams 8th. Do the grades show how bad the Chargers really are, and what is behind them? Chargers Digest breaks down the PFF grades for Justin Herbert, the offensive line, Quentin Johnston, Khalil Mack, Akheem Mesidor and more, and asks whether the grades match what the box score shows. 🏈 PFF'S TEAM GRADES AT THE BYE PFF has the Chargers 31st overall at the bye. The offense is 32nd, the defense is 15th and special teams are 8th. The Chargers have scored 90 points (30th in the NFL) and allowed 151 (24th). Is 31st fair? Why does the defense grade 15th while giving up that many points? 🏈 OFFENSE: HERBERT, THE LINE AND THE RECEIVERS PFF grades Justin Herbert 44.5, 37th of 38 quarterbacks. Rookie left tackle Travis Burke grades 70.5, while the rest of the line, Quentin Johnston (107th of 115 receivers) and Oronde Gadsden grade much lower. How much of the problem is Herbert, the offensive line or the scheme under Mike McDaniel? 🏈 DEFENSE: SHORT FIELDS AND STAND-OUT GRADES The Chargers defense grades 15th on PFF but ranks 24th in points allowed. Tarheeb Still (71.6) and Cam Hart (67.1) lead the secondary, while Daiyan Henley grades 54.1 despite a team-high 36 tackles. Is the defense being blamed for what the offense and turnovers create? 🏈 HIGHEST AND LOWEST PFF GRADES ON THE ROSTER Rookie Akheem Mesidor (75.8), Khalil Mack (75.2), Ladd McConkey (74.4), Elijah Molden (73.5) and Tuli Tuipulotu (72.9) have the highest PFF grades we tracked. Six starters grade under 50: Deane Leonard, Justin Herbert, Logan Taylor, KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Cole Strange and Teair Tart.
