In Alignment

Annie Ripp & Marissa Vivori

Welcome to In Alignment with Annie & Marissa. Our journey to feeling better in our bodies and our lives led us through wellness trends and healing practices, and through some of life’s harder moments. Navigating breakups, chronic health issues, body image, career transitions, finding purpose and starting over throughout our 20’s and 30’s. What we realized along the way is that the root of feeling stuck in our bodies, minds and lives is often a product of being out of alignment with who we truly are. When we come home to ourselves, the world around us starts to fall into place. Because the most important relationship we have is with ourselves. In Alignment is a space for honest conversations where we give you the tools to listen inward and design the life of your dreams. We’re so glad you’re here. shiftintoalignment.substack.com

The Science of Intuition: How to Hear What Your Body Is Telling You with Michelle Snyder

In this episode of In Alignment, Annie sits down with scientist, menstrual health and fertility practitioner, and medical intuitive Michelle Snyder for a fascinating conversation about the intersection of science, emotional health, intuition, and the body. Michelle shares how her background in biology, nutrition science, biotech, and women’s health eventually led her to explore the emotional and energetic layers of healing, especially after seeing women do “everything right” with their diets, supplements, workouts, and wellness routines and still feel stuck. They unpack how our obsession with optimization can turn into hypervigilance, why constantly looking outside ourselves for the perfect protocol can disconnect us from our own bodies, and how to begin rebuilding trust in our internal signals. Michelle also breaks down how she differentiates intuition from fear or anxiety, why the quality of the questions we ask ourselves matters, and simple ways to start strengthening your intuition without beginning with huge life decisions. The conversation gets into relationships, including whether “right person, wrong time” really exists, what Michelle believes compatibility can look like, and why not every meaningful relationship is necessarily meant to last forever. They also explore medical intuition and Michelle’s belief that physical symptoms can carry emotional information, from menstrual cycle changes and thyroid health to acne, pain, and other symptoms, while discussing why physical care, medical support, nutrition, and other tangible interventions still matter. Finally, Michelle shares a practical approach to changing limiting beliefs: stop trying to force yourself to believe huge affirmations you don’t actually feel, and start collecting small, emotionally meaningful evidence for the person you’re becoming. In this episode: • How to tell the difference between intuition and anxiety• Why optimization can turn into hypervigilance• How to stop outsourcing your answers• Using your menstrual cycle as feedback from your body• Simple practices for strengthening your intuition• Why your first intuitive response may matter• How to ask better questions when making decisions• Relationships, soulmates, and “right person, wrong time”• Michelle’s approach to medical intuition• The connection Michelle sees between emotions and physical symptoms• Why physical AND emotional approaches to health can matter• How to begin rewiring limiting beliefs• Why self-celebration can be more powerful than forcing affirmations• Learning to become your own authority If you’ve ever wondered whether the voice in your head is fear or intuition, felt exhausted from trying to optimize every part of your health, or wished you could trust yourself and your body more deeply, this episode is for you. What Your Jealousy Is Trying to Tell You with Ryan Welti

In this episode of In Alignment, Marissa sits down with entrepreneur and author Ryan Welti for an honest conversation about redefining success, starting over, trusting yourself through uncertainty, and building a life that actually feels good to you. Ryan shares her journey from a prestigious career in management consulting to entrepreneurship, shutting down her first startup, getting fired, writing her first book, and ultimately rebuilding from a completely different place. They talk about why jealousy can actually reveal what you want, the inner work required to take big risks, and why self-trust may be more important than having the perfect plan. Ryan also shares the mantra that helped her overcome her fear of posting online: “I’m not afraid to be seen trying,” and why learning to tolerate judgment, disappointment, and being misunderstood can completely change what becomes possible for your life. Marissa and Ryan also get honest about alcohol, anxiety, nervous-system regulation, people pleasing, entrepreneurship, being single in your 30s, and letting go of the traditional timeline of what your life is “supposed” to look like. Most importantly, they explore a different definition of success: not how impressive your life looks from the outside, but how deeply you know yourself, trust yourself, take care of yourself, and actually enjoy being you. Ryan’s forthcoming book, From Scratch, explores many of these same questions around fear, jealousy, identity, evolution, and redefining what success means for you. Everything Cancer at 29 Taught Her About Stress, Control & Living

At 29 years old, Anna White thought she was the healthiest she had ever been. She exercised. She cared deeply about wellness. She knew she carried the BRCA1 mutation and was already undergoing regular screenings. Just weeks before her diagnosis, extensive blood testing had told her she was the “picture of health.” Then she found a lump and a few months later, Anna was diagnosed with stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer. In this episode of In Alignment, Marissa sits down with Anna to talk about what happened next, from navigating an overwhelming diagnosis and interviewing oncologists across the country to undergoing chemotherapy, participating in a clinical trial, and building an integrative support plan alongside her conventional cancer treatment. But this conversation goes far beyond Anna’s treatment. Being diagnosed with cancer forced Anna to look at the way she had been living before she got sick: the high-stress career, perfectionism, need for control, independence, and years she now describes as “white knuckling” her way through life. It also forced her to confront one of the hardest truths for a self-described Type A control freak: we were never really in control to begin with. Anna shares how facing her own mortality changed her relationship with stress, wellness, her body, being seen, and what actually matters to her. One of Anna’s biggest lessons is one we all need, whether or not we’ve ever faced a diagnosis: “If your wellness routine is stressing you out, it’s no longer wellness.” You can eat perfectly, follow every routine, buy every supplement, and try to control every variable. Or you can recognize that taking care of yourself also means learning how to live. For Anna, that has meant releasing some of the control she spent her life holding onto and focusing instead on what she can control: how she spends her days, how she cares for herself, the people she loves, and whether she is actually enjoying the life she fought so hard to keep. How She Healed Years of Chronic Pain When Nothing Else Worked

In this episode of In Alignment, Annie and Marissa sit down with Abby Tartell to talk about the connection between our emotional and physical health, and what can happen when we spend years pushing through, performing, achieving, and avoiding what we actually feel. Abby spent much of her life doing everything “right.” She was a high achiever, a college athlete at Northwestern, went on to work in consulting and attend Kellogg for her MBA, and became the person everyone described as easygoing, adaptable, and low maintenance. Until her body forced her to stop. After developing debilitating chronic foot pain, Abby spent three years searching for answers. She saw leading doctors, tried physical therapy, injections, and other treatments, and was eventually faced with the possibility of exploratory surgery. Then she discovered the work of Dr. John Sarno and Nicole Sachs and began exploring the role that stress, emotional suppression, and learned patterns could be playing in her experience. That journey completely changed the way she understood her body and herself. Together, we talk about what it actually means to “feel your feelings,” why being the easygoing or low-maintenance person can sometimes be a learned survival pattern, and how the patterns we develop early in life can follow us into our health, careers, friendships, and romantic relationships. Abby also walks us through the journaling practice that became a major part of her own journey, including how she uses childhood experiences, present-day stressors, and personality patterns as starting points for deeper self-exploration. At the heart of this conversation is a simple idea: The goal isn’t to never feel uncomfortable again. It’s to become someone who knows how to meet herself when she does. The Link Between Perfectionism, Control & Chronic Symptoms

What if the thing keeping you stuck in your healing journey isn’t that you haven’t found the right supplement, diet, doctor, or protocol, but that you’re trying so hard to fix yourself in the first place? In this episode of In Alignment, Annie sits down with Ciara to talk about her journey from chronic health symptoms and hyper-optimization to nervous system regulation, self-trust, and surrender. Ciara’s health journey began in college with chronic sinus infections and eventually expanded into gut issues, brain fog, anxiety, skin issues, and other persistent symptoms. Determined to feel better, she did what so many of us do: she went into fix-it mode. She saw specialists, tried naturopaths, followed strict diets, took countless supplements, and became increasingly focused on doing everything “right.” But despite putting more and more energy into her health, she wasn’t getting better. Instead, she found herself becoming more anxious, rigid, and consumed with trying to fix her body. Eventually, Ciara began exploring nervous system regulation, JournalSpeak, somatic therapy, and the emotional patterns underneath her symptoms. She started to recognize the connection between her perfectionism, people-pleasing, need for control, childhood experiences, and the way she approached her health. The question began to shift from “What is wrong with my body?” to “What is my body trying to tell me?” Annie and Ciara unpack why control can feel like safety, how perfectionism can follow us into wellness, and why healing can become another thing we believe we need to perfect. They also talk about the experience of putting your life on hold until your body looks or feels a certain way, and why allowing yourself to experience joy before everything is “fixed” can be an important part of healing. Ciara shares what surrender actually looked like in her everyday life: eating the piece of cake, loosening rigid routines, tuning out conflicting wellness advice, journaling, reconnecting with her intuition, and repeatedly asking herself what she actually wanted and needed. They also explore the deeper shift from outsourcing your sense of safety to your body, relationships, career, appearance, or other people’s perceptions of you to building a relationship with yourself rooted in self-love and self-trust. Because healing may not mean reaching a point where nothing ever goes wrong again. It may mean trusting yourself and your body enough to know that when something does, you don’t have to panic, control, or immediately try to fix it. Ciara leaves us with a powerful reminder: your body is not the enemy. Sometimes the answer isn’t another supplement or protocol. Sometimes it’s creating enough safety within yourself that your body no longer has to fight so hard to get your attention. Here’s how to work with us at Shift Shift 1:1 coaching is open now. The Truth About Healing After Loss

Earlier this year, within a matter of weeks, Marissa lost her father unexpectedly, her three-and-a-half-year relationship ended, and she left the home and life she’d built in New York. For a long time, she wasn’t sure she’d ever feel like herself again. In this episode, Marissa shares what grief has actually felt like, not just losing someone you love, but grieving relationships, future plans, and versions of life you thought you’d have. She talks about why grief is so physical, why trying to “move on” too quickly often keeps us stuck, how heartbreak and loss affect the nervous system, and what has genuinely helped her begin healing. Whether you’re grieving a parent, a breakup, a friendship, a dream, or a version of yourself that no longer exists, this conversation is a reminder that you aren’t broken, you aren’t behind, and you aren’t alone. In this episode, Marissa discusses: * Losing her father after years of estrangement * Why death and heartbreak create similar emotional patterns * The grief of losing the future you imagined * Why emotions need to be felt, not avoided * How grief lives in the body * Learning to comfort yourself instead of escaping difficult emotions * Why being alone can become one of your greatest strengths * Moving from guilt toward gratitude * Finding meaning after loss * Building resilience after life’s hardest moments If this episode resonates with you, we’d love to hear from you.
