Natalie - Growing up with addiction and abuse in the family.

In this deeply moving episode of Power to Her, we explore what it’s like to grow up around addiction and abuse — and the incredible strength it takes to walk away from it as an adult. This conversation shares the raw reality of living with a loved one’s addiction, the emotional scars that linger, and the moment you realise that protecting your own children sometimes means stepping away from someone you love. It’s about choosing peace over pain. It’s about breaking the cycle and deciding that your story, and your children’s story, will look different. You’ll hear how awareness turns into healing, and how setting boundaries — though painful — can also become one of the most empowering acts of love. If this episode resonates with you, please remember that you’re not alone. Support is out there, and reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness. Here are some places you can find help and guidance in the UK: We Are With You – free, confidential support for anyone affected by drugs, alcohol, or mental health struggles: wearewithyou.org.uk Addiction Family Support – for people impacted by someone else’s addiction: addictionfamilysupport.org.uk Refuge – 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline offering confidential help for women and children: refuge.org.uk Women’s Aid – support and information about domestic abuse: womensaid.org.uk NSPCC – if you’re concerned about a child affected by abuse: call 0808 800 5000 or visit nspcc.org.uk . Finding Strength in a New Country: Morgan’s Journey with Borderline Personality Disorder

In this heartfelt episode of Power to Her, I sit down with Morgan, a brave and open young woman who moved from Ireland to the UK to begin university, just one month after being diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Morgan opens up about what it was like to start this new chapter of her life while navigating her diagnosis, understanding her medication, and finding her place in a new environment where she didn’t know anyone. She speaks honestly about the challenges of her first year, feeling isolated, misunderstood, and overwhelmed — and how things began to change once she surrounded herself with the right people and found a circle of support built on kindness and non-judgement. This episode is a reminder that mental health journeys take time, that asking for help is a sign of strength, and that finding people who see you for who you are, not your diagnosis, can completely change your path. A Note for Listeners: If you or someone you love is living with BPD or struggling with their mental health, please remember...... you are not alone.
