Breaking The Trauma Cycle | Anxiety, Mental Health, Forgiveness, Abuse

Norma Pagan

Welcome, friend.  Breaking the Trauma Cycle is a safe place for Christian moms who are ready to heal, grow, and chase after their God-given dreams—without the weight of the past holding them back. For two decades, I tried everything I could to escape the pain of trauma. I ignored it, numbed it, and searched for relief anywhere I could find it.  But in my darkest moment, through tears and desperation, I turned to God and handed Him all my broken pieces. That was the beginning of true healing. Today, I no longer see myself as a victim, but as a valued daughter of the King. And I want you to know this: if I can find hope and healing, so can you. If you’ve ever worried that what you went through might affect your kids, or you find yourself wrestling with anxiety, anger, fear, or forgiveness, you’re not alone. Here, we walk this journey together—trusting God, breaking free from generational trauma, and learning to breathe easier again. Each episode is filled with encouragement, real testimonies from women just like you, and faith-based tools to help you trade stress for peace, rebuild trust, and lean into God’s presence. Think of it like sitting down with a friend over coffee—sharing hope, laughter, maybe a few tears, and plenty of grace. You don’t have to figure this out on your own. This is your community, your safe space, and your reminder that with God, healing is possible and freedom is yours.   Connect with me at breakingthetraumacycle.com

    50. Hiding From Your Calling? 3 Things God Wants You to Know.

What if you're not waiting on God to reveal your calling... you're hiding from what He's already shown you? And what if God isn't waiting for you to become more healed, confident, or qualified before He can use you? In this episode of Breaking the Trauma Cycle, we're looking at what Gideon's hiding place can teach us about our own. Because sometimes we convince ourselves we're waiting until we're ready when fear is really keeping us from taking the next step. God isn't asking you to become a perfect version of yourself before you can walk in obedience. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Scripture: Judges 6:11–16 Gideon focused on his weakness and everything he believed disqualified him. God's answer wasn't a list of Gideon's qualifications. It was His presence:   “I will be with you.” — Judges 6:16 ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Journal Prompt: What am I waiting to change about myself before I believe God can use me? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Faith-Rooted Step: Take one step with the version of you that exists today. Ask God what one thing He's calling you to do, then do it without waiting to feel more ready.  ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Book Update   Whispers From Heaven: Where God Heals What Trauma Tried to Break is moving closer to launch day! The ARC copies are officially in the hands of my early readers, which means this little book that lived in my heart, my prayers, and on my computer for so long is now being read by actual people. 49. You Don't Find Purpose. You Become it.

Have you ever wondered if you've missed God's purpose for your life? What if the very experiences you've questioned are the same ones God is using to prepare you for it? In this week's episode, we're stepping behind the scenes into God's kitchen to discover how the Master Baker uses every season of our lives to create something far greater than we can see. Through the truth of Romans 12:2 and the promise of Romans 8:28, you'll learn why purpose isn't usually revealed in one dramatic moment but through a life transformed by Christ. If you've ever felt stuck, wondered whether your past disqualified you, or questioned if God still has a plan for your life, this conversation will encourage you to see your story from a different perspective. Scripture: Romans 12:2 and Romans 8:28 Journal Prompt: Spend time thanking God for each ingredient instead of questioning why it's there. Ask Him to help you see your life through His eyes and recognize the ways He has been preparing you all along. Faith-Rooted Step: This week, take fifteen minutes to write down the "ingredients" God has already placed in your life. Notice the experiences, burdens, gifts, opportunities, and encouragement that keep showing up. Instead of waiting for one big sign, begin looking for the "God winks" that reveal His gentle leading one ingredient at a time.    Book Update Whispers From Heaven: Where God Heals What Trauma Tried to Break is moving closer to launch day! I'm currently looking for a small group of ARC (Advance Reader Copy) readers who would be willing to read the book before release and leave an honest review. 48. Living Beyond Survival

Have you become so good at surviving that you've forgotten what it feels like to truly live? What if the abundant life Jesus promised isn't just something to hope for someday, but an invitation for today? For many of us, survival mode became a way of life. We learned to push through, stay busy, keep our guard up, and call it strength. But while survival may have carried us through difficult seasons, it was never meant to become our identity. In this episode, we're exploring what it means to move beyond simply getting through each day and begin embracing the abundant life Jesus offers. Together, we'll talk about why surrender is the first step toward freedom, how learning to trust God transforms fear into peace, and why purpose is discovered one faithful step at a time—not all at once. If you've ever wondered who you are outside of your trauma, struggled to feel safe when life is calm, or questioned what comes after healing, this conversation is for you. My prayer is that you'll leave encouraged to stop holding your breath and start walking with Jesus into the life He has been inviting you to all along. Scripture: John 10:10 Journal Prompt: In what area of my life am I still surviving instead of fully trusting God? What would it look like to surrender that area to Him today? Faith-Rooted Step: Spend ten uninterrupted minutes with God each day this week. Before asking Him for anything, simply pray, "Lord, teach me how to live the life You died to give me. Show me my next faithful step." Then read John 10:10 and write down what He places on your heart.   Book Update Whispers From Heaven: Where God Heals What Trauma Tried to Break is moving closer to launch day! 47. When Healing Feels Like You're Leaving People Behind

Have you ever set a boundary and immediately wondered if you were being selfish?   What if the guilt you feel when you choose healing isn't proof that you're doing something wrong, but evidence that God is leading you into something new?   Healing is a beautiful gift from God, but that doesn't mean it's always comfortable. Sometimes becoming the person God created us to be means letting go of old patterns, unhealthy expectations, and the version of ourselves that existed just to keep everyone else happy. In this episode of *Breaking The Trauma Cycle*, we talk about the guilt that can come with healing and why following God forward may require us to leave behind what once felt familiar. Through the story of Abram in Genesis 12, we are reminded that God often calls us away from what is comfortable before He reveals what He has prepared.   Together, we'll reflect on what it means to: * Recognize when guilt is leading instead of God * Understand that boundaries can be an act of obedience * Trust God when healing changes the relationships around us Scripture: Genesis 12:1-4 Journal Prompt: Are there any boundaries you've been afraid to set because you're worried about how others will respond? Ask God to reveal whether your guilt comes from His conviction or from the fear of disappointing others. Faith-Rooted Step: This week, practice one healthy boundary without apologizing for it. Ask God to help you love others without abandoning the healing He is doing in you. Book Update Whispers From Heaven: Where God Heals What Trauma Tried to Break is moving closer to launch day! 46. When Your Mind Always Prepares for Disaster

Have you ever found yourself expecting something bad to happen before anything has even gone wrong? What if the fear you’re feeling isn’t a sign that something terrible is coming, but a reminder that your eyes may need to be refocused on what God is already doing? In this episode of Breaking The Trauma Cycle, Norma shares a powerful story from 2 Kings 6 as a reminder that God’s presence is greater than the circumstances surrounding you. When fear narrows your vision, faith helps you recognize that you are never facing your battles alone. Friend, your mind may have learned to prepare for disaster, but God can teach your heart to recognize His faithfulness. Journal Prompt: What situation in my life have I been viewing through the lens of fear instead of faith? What might change if I asked God to help me see it from His perspective? Faith Rooted Step: Pray Elisha’s prayer each morning this week: “Lord, open my eyes so I may see.” Write down one way you notice God’s presence, provision, or faithfulness each day. 45. Reclaim Your Identity After Trauma

Did trauma change who you are... or did it simply cover who God created you to be? When a priceless masterpiece is damaged, covered in dirt, or torn, an art restorer doesn't see a ruined painting. They see the original masterpiece hidden beneath the damage. What if God sees you the same way? In this episode of Breaking the Trauma Cycle, we're exploring one of the greatest lies trauma tells us—that our pain has become our identity. Through Scripture, personal testimony, and the beautiful picture of an artist restoring a masterpiece, you'll discover that trauma may have changed your experiences, but it never changed God's original design for your life. If you've ever caught yourself saying, "This is just who I am," this conversation is for you. In this episode, you'll discover: Why trauma can influence your reactions without defining your identity Practical questions to help separate survival behaviors from your God-given identity Reflection Question What parts of your identity have you allowed your trauma to define? Ask God to reveal one area where you've mistaken a survival response for your true identity, and write down the truth He says about who you are instead. Faith Rooted Step Every time you catch yourself speaking from your wounds instead of your identity this week, pause and replace the lie with this truth: "Trauma changed my experience, but it never changed my structural design. I am still God's masterpiece." Scripture Mentioned in This Episode Romans 7:15    Ephesians 2:10    Jeremiah 29:11  Joel 2:25   Romans 8:37 Let’s Stay Connected! 44. Feeling Unqualified? 3 Things You Already Have to Walk in God's Purpose

Have you ever felt like everyone else has something valuable to offer God except you? Do you ever find yourself waiting until you're more confident, more knowledgeable, or more "qualified" before saying yes to what God is asking you to do? Friend, what if you're already carrying exactly what God has been asking you to bring? In this episode of Breaking the Trauma Cycle, we're looking at one of the most powerful miracles in Scripture—the feeding of the five thousand—and discovering that the miracle didn't begin with abundance. It began with a little boy who simply offered what he had. If you've ever believed the lie that you're not enough, this episode is for you. ___________________________________________________________________________ Key Scriptures: John 6:1–14 Anchor Verse "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" — John 6:9 Your next step doesn't have to be impressive—it just has to be obedient. ___________________________________________________________________________   Journal Prompt Where have I been telling God I have nothing to offer when He has already been asking for my yes? __________________________________________________________________________     Faith Step This week, stop focusing on what you don't have. Instead: Identify what God has already placed in your hands. Say yes to the next step He's asking you to take. Stay surrendered to the One who can multiply whatever you place in His hands. Remember, God has never called you to be enough. He's called you to trust the One who already is.     💌 Let’s Stay Connected! I'm just trying to survive. But what if the very place where you feel overlooked is where God is preparing your greatest assignment?
