    Who's Really Running Your Life?

    Who's really calling the shots in your life? We may say Jesus is Lord, but how often do we make decisions based on what other people think? Whether it's the pressure to fit in, the fear of disappointing someone, or our own insecurities, it's easy to let other voices influence the way we live. In this episode of The Rock Sermon Podcast, Rob Canavan explores what it really means to have a faith that overcomes the world, based on 1 John 5:4–5. We'll talk about: Why seeking people's approval can become a dangerous trap. The difference between keeping the peace and compromising your convictions.     God Isn’t the Person Who Hurt You When someone you trusted hurts you, it can affect how you see God. Can you trust Him to stay, listen, and love you when others haven’t? In this personal episode, Pastor Rob shares about his biological father leaving early in his life, the dad who helped raise him, and the relationship God later restored. He also opens up about being hurt by a pastor and how the Holy Spirit, Erica, and fellow believers helped him work through bitterness and forgive. Drawing from 1 John 4, we explore how Jesus reveals the Father’s character and how we can begin trusting His love with the painful parts of our stories.     Would You Still Serve If Nobody Noticed?

    You helped. You stayed late. You did the quiet job—and nobody said thank you. Would you still do it? Pastor Rob and Pastor Erica bring humor and honest conversation to the Rock Sermon Podcast as they explore service through John 13:1–17. After a fun “Who’s More Likely?” round, they talk about serving without keeping score, receiving help, and recognizing the difference between loving sacrifice and taking on too much. They also discuss forgiveness, broken trust, and healthy boundaries. Loving someone does not mean ignoring harm or returning to an unsafe relationship. Forgiveness does not automatically restore trust, and reconciliation requires truth, repentance, and accountability. Christianity begins with what Jesus has done for us.     When It’s What You Want to Hear Rock Sermon Podcast | Pastor Rob Are you listening for God's truth, or just looking for someone to agree with you? We've all done it. We hear a sermon, watch a video, or scroll past a Christian post that says exactly what we wanted to hear. It sounds spiritual, quotes Scripture, and confirms what we already believe. But what happens when God's Word challenges us instead of agreeing with us? In this episode of the Rock Sermon Podcast, Pastor Rob takes a deeper look at spiritual discernment through 1 John 4:1–6. Sometimes the greatest challenge isn't recognizing a false message. It's recognizing when our own desires are influencing what we're willing to believe. We'll talk about: Why something that feels right isn't necessarily biblical truth. The danger of surrounding ourselves with voices that only confirm our opinions. Why “God told me” should invite discernment, not end the conversation. How to test spiritual messages without becoming cynical or suspicious. Why following Jesus requires being willing to hear “no,” receive correction, and surrender our preferences. One thought to take with you: “Jesus isn't my consultant. He's my Lord.” God's Word doesn't just comfort us. Sometimes it corrects us, challenges us, and changes us. This week's challenge: The next time you hear something that perfectly agrees with what you already believe, stop and ask: Would I still call this truth if it challenged me instead?
