Brian Laurence

This week on LIVING IT LOUD: Brian Laurence has been the General Manager at Colorado National Speedway, the last asphalt short track located 30 minutes north of Denver just off I-25 in Dacono for the past 14 years. As a native of Colorado, he grew up in Silverthorne on the ski slopes and on a snowmobile. After earning his undergrad at DU, Brian attended law school at DU and clerked for two judges in Arapahoe County before working briefly for Kroenke Sports and then joining a private law practice in Longmont. He was introduced to Colorado National Speedway as they were a client of the law firm and was recruited to join them as GM and General Counsel in 2014. Dave Moody

This week on LIVING IT LOUD: Dave Moody “The Godfather” Dave Moody began his motorsports broadcast career in 1978 at age 17, working as a short-track public address announcer under the guidance of his mentor, former CBS-TV motorsports anchorman Ken Squier. For the next 30 years, Moody manned the PA microphone at one of the country’s most successful short tracks, Thunder Road International Speedbowl in his native Vermont. “I learned at the feet of the master,” recalls Moody. “Ken taught me everything I know about the sport. I would announce a couple of Street Stock heats every week, then report to Ken’s office the next morning for a thorough review of my performance and tips on how to improve. It was an amazing opportunity, and I have made a career from what he taught me.” From his start at that tiny, quarter-mile track in Vermont, Moody expanded his horizons to include weekly stints on the microphone at Vermont’s Catamount Stadium and Bear Ridge Speedway, the Lee USA Speedway in New Hampshire, Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway and the Airborne Park Speedway in New York. He also served as the voice of the NASCAR North and American-Canadian Tour Late Model Series for more than two decades, traveling throughout the northeastern United States and eastern Canada. “It was a lot of work, but I can’t think of a better way for a young announcer to learn the trade,” recalls Moody. “It was standard operating procedure for me to work at a different track every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Memorial Day through Labor Day. At last count, I had worked at more than 100 different speedways in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Frank DeAngelis

This week on LIVING IT LOUD: Frank DeAngelis was a staff member at Columbine High School in the Jeffco School District in Littleton Colorado, since 1979, starting as a Social Studies teacher and filling the roles of Head Baseball Coach, Assistant Football Coach, Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal, before becoming the Principal in 1996. Frank is a Colorado native, completing his K-12 education in Denver-area schools, proceeding to graduate from Metropolitan State College and subsequently from the University of Colorado with a Masters Degree in Secondary Education and Social Studies, his Principal’s License and Masters Degree from the University of Phoenix. Frank has been involved in numerous professional activities and associations, and has received multiple awards for his teaching, leadership and coaching skills. He has also been called upon to speak about recovery after a school tragedy at a variety of conferences, and has assisted as a consultant after a number of other violent school events. He was selected as Colorado High School Principal of the Year and was one of the three finalists for National Principal of the Year. He received the Jefferson Country Lifetime Achievement Award and the Gandhi, King, Ikeda Community Builders Award. He retired in June of 2014 after 35 years at Columbine High School. He is presently serving as a consultant for safety and emergency management for the Jeffco School District in Colorado, and continues to deliver speeches in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
