    One Embryo, Two Babies — Then Cancer at Five Months Postpartum

    One embryo. One IVF transfer. And then the incredible news that the embryo had split — they were having twins. In this episode of Motherhood in Stereo, I’m joined by a mum whose journey into motherhood already had an extraordinary beginning. After becoming pregnant on her second round of IVF, the single embryo they transferred divided, giving them identical twin girls. But just five months after her babies arrived, life changed again when she was diagnosed with stage 1 cancer. We talk about the joy and absolute madness of twin motherhood, what it was like receiving a cancer diagnosis while caring for two tiny babies, going through radiotherapy, and navigating motherhood when your own health suddenly becomes uncertain. Thankfully, she is now in remission. In this episode of Motherhood in Stereo, I’m joined by Amanda from Sleepy Little Stars to talk honestly about baby and toddler sleep. We discuss night waking, early mornings, naps, sleep training, twins, separation anxiety and how to work out whether a sleep issue is developmental, behavioural or something that may need further support. But we also turn the conversation around and talk about something that often gets forgotten — maternal sleep. We spend so much time asking, “Is the baby sleeping?” but not enough time asking, “Is Mum sleeping?” We talk about the impact prolonged broken sleep can have on a mother’s physical and emotional wellbeing, when exhaustion may be becoming something more serious, and when it’s time to reach out for additional support.     Eight Years of Trying, Then Twins: An Emergency Birth & 25 Days in NICU

    After eight years of trying to become parents, today’s guest Alexis Lohnes discovered she was pregnant just before starting IUI — and then found out she was expecting twins. At 35 weeks, she went into spontaneous labour. What followed was an emergency C-section under general anaesthetic, a complicated delivery, blood and iron transfusions, a helicopter transfer to a children’s hospital and 25 days in NICU. Now, one year later, her twin boys are happy, outgoing and thriving. In this episode of Motherhood in Stereo, we talk about the long road to motherhood, the shock of finding out it was twins, birth trauma, NICU life, bringing premature babies home and what that first year of twin motherhood has really been like.     At 21 weeks pregnant with twins, Jacqilynn is preparing for an exciting—and understandably daunting—new chapter of motherhood. She is already mum to an older daughter with type 1 diabetes, coeliac disease and autism.
