    I never thought pickleball would be one of the best ways to build a business network in NYC 🎾Then I met Skyler Birk-Stachon aka the Pickleball King of NYC.What started with a LinkedIn post and a game of pickleball has turned into a community of 2,000+ people, including founders, investors and Fortune 500 execs.And Skyler’s approach to networking is almost the opposite of what you’d expect.Don’t pitch people. Become friends with them.Don’t over-engineer every event. Leave room for random conversations.And instead of saying, “You two should work together,” try:“You two should play pickleball together.”That pretty much sums up our conversation on the latest episode of The Super Connectors podcast.Skyler deliberately keeps his events a little unstructured. People show up, grab some coffee and bagels, play with people they don’t know, and see what happens.Sometimes nothing happens.Sometimes you make a new friend.And sometimes that random person you played pickleball with at 7:30am ends up becoming a client, investor, business partner or introduction you never expected.I love this because it’s exactly how I think networking should work.     The Super Connectors NYC with Dylan Oriundo

    “To really know someone, you have to be awkward.” I loved this line from Dylan Oriundo in my latest episode of The Super Connectors podcast 😂 Dylan is building The Builder Series, which he grew from 10K to 36K followers in less than 3 months. But what I found much more interesting was why he built it. He was fed up with networking that felt too transactional - meet someone. Swap LinkedIns. Give your pitch. Move on to the next person. His approach is pretty much the opposite - make friends first. Get to know people properly. Have slightly awkward conversations. Forget about what you can get from them. As Dylan put it: “We’re not just businesses, we’re people.” YES. We also talked about Clockout, the next-gen networking app where Dylan was the first employee. Think LinkedIn meets Meetup, but with much more focus on actually connecting with the right people. It’s already had 500,000 downloads and is launching in London next.     The Super Connectors NYC with Christina Sclafani

    I really liked this conversation with Christina Sclafani on the latest episode of the Super Connectors podcast. She has that very natural connector mindset where, when she meets someone, her brain immediately goes: “How can I help them?” And then: “Who do I know who can help them?” That’s pretty much the whole game. We also talked about the slightly awkward bit that connectors don’t always like talking about: money. Christina’s take was simple: be transparent. She doesn’t expect to be paid every time she helps someone, but if real value gets created, it’s nice when people remember who helped make it happen. And her advice for anyone who wants to build a stronger network? - Go to events. - Be reliable. - Remember names. - Remember people’s stories. - And actually care.     The Super Connectors NYC with Noam Weisman

    Most startups struggle to reach the right customer. In the latest episode of The Super Connectors podcast, I sat down with Noam Weisman, who built Hunterz.io and grew it to 20,000 connectors. His insight came from working at Cisco: instead of hiring a huge new sales team, he used Cisco’s internal relationships to get into the right accounts. Within 3 months, they were selling at a $20M run rate. That led him to a simple idea: Big companies already have massive internal networks. Startups don’t. So why not build one network that everyone can use? A few nuggets I loved: “If we can’t get there through someone they know, it’s most likely going to fail.” "You don’t need to know everyone. Sometimes one very specific relationship is more valuable than a giant network." Hunterz even paid $600 per intro, but Noam said money wasn’t the main motivation for most connectors.     If you think networking is awkward small talk… you’re doing it wrong. Just dropped a new episode of The Super Connectors podcast with Nancie Steinberg, and she’s on another level. If you mention any company, within seconds she’s saying: “I know someone there.” “Seven or eight times out of ten, I already have the contact.” No CRM, just years of building relationships. And she started networking for one simple reason: she was lonely at work. We also talked about why she follows up with everyone on LinkedIn, how she helps job seekers get their CV in front of the right people, and why the best connectors aren’t trying to sell. They’re just trying to help. Oh, and she’s doing all this while being a cancer survivor and thriver, helping others both professionally and personally.     The Super Connectors NYC with Davion Louis

    What if the best connectors are the ones who never ask to be paid? One of my fave moments from the latest episode of The Super Connectors podcast was when Davion Louis said: “It never starts with ‘Here’s my price.’ It starts with ‘What are you looking for?’” I loved that. His view is simple: Listen first. Figure out where you can genuinely help. If you create enough value, people will often want to reward you without you ever having to ask. A few nuggets that really stood out: “If you bring enough value, people will ask to pay you.” “One connection leads to 10” “If you inhale by receiving introductions, you should exhale by making introductions.” We also talked about why connecting people is a real skill, not just something that “comes naturally”, how he uses old-school Excel to keep track of relationships, why he follows up with every new connection within 10 days, and how the best opportunities come from listening before trying to solve someone’s problem. It was a refreshingly honest conversation about trust, generosity and why the people who give first usually end up winning in the long run. Let me know which idea stuck with you the most.     The Super Connectors with Dennis Fino

    One of my favourite moments from the latest episode of The Super Connectors podcast was when Dennis Fino casually said: “I never think about monetization at all. I just make friends.” While everyone else is talking about funnels, hacks, automation, cold outreach and growth tactics, Dennis built a network across Europe and the US by doing something much simpler: He actually cares about people. A few gems from our conversation:“One person is worth more than 200 business cards.” The best networking strategy? “Grab pizza and join the table.” “You might have found your next best friend at the event.” We also talked about why cold networking is losing its power, how to build a network in a new country, why introverts can become brilliant connectors and the very real exhaustion that comes from always being socially switched on. And yes, Dennis still tracks his introductions in the Notes app 😂 This was one of the most honest and human conversations we’ve had on the podcast.     The Super Connectors NYC with Mike MacCombie

    889 introductions. Since January. Yes, you read that correctly. In the latest episode of The Super Connectors podcast, I sat down with Mike MacCombie, who runs 165 WhatsApp groups for founders and investors and has somehow turned his kitchen wall into a CRM with 400 Post-it notes. Please do not try this at home. Mike’s approach to networking is refreshingly simple: “What would be serendipitous for you right now?” That might be the best networking question I have heard in years. A few other golden nuggets: “If you’re doing good work, you’ll have goodwill.” “Don’t try to become a super connector. Enjoy the process.” And perhaps the most unexpected one: He will give someone up to a third of his profit if their introduction helps one of his portfolio companies get acquired. Now that is putting your money where your network is. We also talk about generosity, tracking introductions, building communities that scale and why the best introductions are between two people who would have wanted to meet anyway.
