Ep 18 | The Weight Of Expectations - Why Women Are Isolated & How We Can Rebuild Our Community Part 2

You have a full life. A career. A family. Things to show for your effort. And somehow you still feel like nobody truly sees you. Like you are carrying everything and doing it completely alone. This episode is for that woman. Dr. Fatima Mohamed sits down with Fartun Hussein, Life Coach and Founder of Noor Essence Coaching, to talk about something our community does not say out loud enough, the weight of expectations that is quietly isolating Muslim and Somali women and pulling them away from the community they desperately need. We talk honestly about the impossible standard placed on women today. The pressure to be successful, present, spiritual, selfless and strong, all at once with nothing left for yourself and nobody checking on you. The village that disappeared without anyone announcing it. The way strength became a mask and asking for help became something to be ashamed of. And what all of that is costing women,  in their mental health, their bodies, their marriages and their sense of self. And then we talk about what rebuilding actually looks like. Not the generic advice. The honest, practical, faith-grounded conversation about how Muslim and Somali women can find their way back to each other, and back to themselves. Because we were never meant to do this alone. And it is not too late to build the village we needed all along. Support the show Hope you enjoy this episode and stay tunes for more to come. Until next time, stay inspired and keep growing.

EP 12 | The Truth About Being a Doctor in Kenya | Burnout, Money & Why Doctors Are Leaving

In this episode, we unpack the honest reality of being a doctor in Kenya, beyond the title, expectations, and assumptions. From the intense journey of medical school to the challenges of licensing and starting a medical career, this conversation sheds light on what it truly takes to pursue medicine. We dive into the growing issue of doctor burnout, the mental and emotional toll of healthcare, and the lack of mentorship that leaves many young doctors feeling unprepared. We also explore the financial side of medicine, breaking down the myth that all doctors are wealthy and discussing the real experience of doctor salaries in Kenya. As more professionals begin questioning the path, we talk about why doctors are leaving medicine, putting their degrees on hold, or pivoting into different careers altogether. We also reflect on the pressure to choose medicine for family expectations rather than personal purpose — and what that can mean long-term. This episode is for anyone considering a career in medicine, currently studying, or simply curious about the truth behind one of the most respected professions. You’ll also hear practical advice on: What to consider before choosing medicineHow to navigate medical school and early career challengesThe importance of mentorship in healthcareWhat young doctors should know before entering the fieldIf you’ve ever asked yourself “Is medicine really worth it?” — this conversation offers a perspective you don’t often hear Support the show Hope you enjoy this episode and stay tunes for more to come.
