MYWL Private Podcast - Why Everything You’ve Been Taught About Weight Loss Is Wrong

Welcome to the first episode of my Master Your Weight Loss private podcast series! I'm Eliza Kingsford, a licensed psychotherapist, former CEO and best selling author. I have over two decades of experience in clinical psychology, helping thousands of people with lasting transformation.   In this episode, I share a bit about my background, explaining how my initial training in cognitive-behavioral therapy eventually led me to seek deeper answers. Early in my career, I saw my clients repeatedly lose weight only to regain it later, which left me feeling frustrated. Driven by this, I immersed myself in advanced studies, including neuroscience, psychoneuroimmunology, epigenetics, and the nervous system, to better understand the root causes of weight struggles.   What I discovered transformed my approach entirely. I realized that traditional weight-loss methods miss crucial elements like the mind-body connection, neurological patterns, and underlying psychological factors. These insights form the foundation of the Master Your Weight Loss Workshop. Rather than providing oversimplified solutions, I’ll explain why traditional methods often fail, and instead guide you step-by-step through a scientifically grounded approach for lasting change.   I invite you to dedicate time and mental space to join the workshop, especially if you’ve felt frustrated or stuck in an endless cycle of dieting and regaining weight. This workshop could be the turning point you've been seeking, offering genuine transformation in your relationship with food, weight, and self-image.   Due to high interest, our Zoom sessions tend to fill up quickly, so please be sure to subscribe to this podcast and mark your calendar to secure your spot. MYWL Private Podcast - Mastering the Fundamentals Before the Weight Loss “Super Bowl”

Welcome back to episode two, where I’m diving into why most weight loss advice can actually hinder your progress and, in some cases, make things worse. First off, I want to clarify that I don't believe there’s a conspiracy to keep you uninformed—most advice stems from a misunderstanding of how weight loss mechanisms work.   After extensive research on why people struggle with weight loss, I’ve observed that the common advice focuses heavily on diet and exercise. There are countless competing diets, each with conflicting opinions on food restrictions and variations in exercise intensity. Many believe that by simply adhering to a specific diet and exercise regimen, they will achieve their weight loss goals. Unfortunately, this mindset can lead to frustration and ultimately slow you down.   Imagine weight loss as similar to sports training. Diet and exercise can be compared to preparing for the Super Bowl: the pinnacle of football that requires mastery of fundamental skills. Just as no athlete would enter such a high-stakes game without first mastering catching, throwing, and teamwork, you shouldn't approach weight loss without addressing foundational skills.   Let’s reflect on how this plays out in real life. Many people start a new diet filled with motivation but soon find themselves reverting to old habits due to stress or fatigue. For example, if you’ve committed to cutting out sugar but find yourself bingeing on ice cream after a tough day, that’s not a failure of willpower; it’s a sign that the fundamental skill of managing stress without turning to food hasn’t been mastered.   We often blame ourselves when we fall off the wagon, thinking we lack willpower or commitment. In reality, sticking to a calorie deficit or a specific diet plan is an advanced skill—what I call a Super Bowl skill. The true issue lies in not having the foundational elements in place.   Here are a few key weight loss fundamentals to consider:   1. **Coping Without Food**: Can you navigate life's challenges without reaching for food? If you cannot, this is a fundamental skill that needs to be developed. Telling yourself to simply stop doesn’t work. Learning effective coping mechanisms is critical.   2. **Consistent Eating Habits**: Are your eating patterns consistent week after week? Many fall into the trap of "black-and-white eating," where they are either strictly dieting or completely indulging. Relative consistency—eating in a way that balances enjoyment with moderation—is essential for sustained weight loss.   3. **Bouncing Back**: How quickly can you recover from disruptions, like holidays or vacations? If a temporary change in your routine derails your progress for an extended period, this indicates a gap in your foundational skills. Being able to bounce back quickly is vital.   When these fundamentals are neglected, they obstruct your progress. Relying solely on diet and exercise without mastering the above skills mimics a player trying to enter the Super Bowl without grasping the basic principles of the game.   The good news is that focusing on these foundational aspects can transform your weight loss journey, leading to greater joy and peace, even before you start losing weight. Many individuals who prioritize these fundamentals report feeling happier and less stressed, even before the scales start moving.   In conclusion, if you’ve been fixated on diet and exercise for years, consider this: you may be trying to play in the weight loss Super Bowl without having mastered the necessary fundamentals. Once those are in place, dieting and exercise will feel entirely different and more manageable.   Remember, feeling good on your journey can be part of the process of achieving weight loss goals. With the right attention to the fundamentals, you can set yourself up for long-term success. It may feel positive, even if you've never experienced that before. I hope this information has been helpful. Please add the workshop dates to your calendar, and don’t forget to subscribe to this private podcast to catch all upcoming episodes. Set aside time for this workshop—it's going to be amazing! Attendees often tell me they've never encountered these concepts before and wonder where this information has been all their lives. MYWL Private Podcast - The Three Puzzle Pieces to Lasting Weight Loss

Welcome back to episode three of my Master Your Weight Loss private podcast! In today's episode, I'm giving you a brief overview of what you'll learn during my upcoming three-day workshop.   In episode 2, I discussed the importance of mastering weight loss fundamentals before diving into advanced strategies. Many people mistakenly jump straight into advanced skills, like diet and exercise, not realizing these efforts often fail because fundamental physiological issues haven't been addressed.   During the workshop, I'll introduce three critical pieces—or puzzle pieces—that must be addressed for lasting weight loss: On Day 1, I'll cover the powerful role your nervous system plays in determining your eating patterns and choices. We'll move beyond simplified advice and explore the direct physiological connections influencing your behavior around food. On Day 2, we'll dive into your beliefs and paradigms, showing how your brain and mind work together to create your outcomes. I'll explain why your brain might currently be programmed for failure and teach you how to reprogram it for sustained success. On Day 3, we'll focus on the challenges of changing automatic habits. I'll share a clear, step-by-step process for rewiring your habits and behaviors permanently.   My goal is to help you see how each of these puzzle pieces fits together, giving you clarity about why past efforts haven't worked and confidence in your ability to achieve lasting change. I firmly believe sustainable weight loss is achievable for everyone, and I've seen this transformation countless times with clients.   Make sure you've subscribed to this private podcast, added the workshop dates to your calendar, and join me to unlock a deeper, evidence-based approach to weight loss success.   Visit my website for more. www.elizakingsford.com

MYWL Private Podcast - The Paradox of Weight Loss: Complex Problems, Simple Solutions

Welcome back to episode 4 of my Master Your Weight Loss private podcast! This episode is particularly important to me because, although the concepts surrounding weight loss may seem complex, I want you to understand that the solutions themselves are actually simple. This is one of the key paradoxes of weight loss.   I've spent two decades deeply exploring these complexities, driven by passion and by seeing firsthand how this approach transforms people's lives. Just recently, a client shared during a coaching call that she had never felt happier—even though she hadn't lost any weight yet. This is exactly why I am so committed to diving into neuroscience, brain research, and detailed explorations of what truly drives behavior change.   However, in our fast-paced, technology-driven world, we've become conditioned to seek quick fixes and instant solutions, which can negatively impact our ability to think deeply and sustainably about change. I refuse to contribute to this problem by offering overly simplistic, surface-level advice. Instead, my goal is to teach you the underlying framework of your habits and behaviors so you can understand exactly how you got here—and how to navigate your way out.   The beauty of this approach lies in its simplicity once the foundational understanding is in place. One of our core mantras in this work is, “the little things are the big things.” Even though I will thoroughly explain the complexities involved, the actions you'll take to make meaningful changes in your life are straightforward and achievable.   Remember, if you haven't yet subscribed to this podcast, please do so you won't miss future episodes. Make sure you've also scheduled time on your calendar for the workshop—I can't wait to see you there!   Visit my website for more. www.elizakingsford.com

    MYWL Workshop Day 1

MYWL Workshop Day 1   Episode Summary: In this foundational session, Eliza Kingsford kicks off the Master Your Weight Loss (MYWL) Workshop by reframing why traditional weight loss methods often fail — and what’s actually at the root of the struggle. If you’ve ever felt like food controls you, like you’re constantly starting over on Mondays, or like willpower just isn’t enough… this session will explain why.   Using analogies like the “leaky bucket” and “NFL tryouts,” Eliza introduces the first of three core fundamentals for sustainable change: Mastering Your Nervous System.   What You’ll Learn: Why your nervous system can override your best weight loss intentions The real reason willpower fails (hint: it’s not your fault) How nervous system states impact eating decisions — often unconsciously What executive functions shut down when you're dysregulated The surprising science behind emotional eating and learned helplessness The difference between treating symptoms vs. addressing the root cause How to begin rewiring your brain-body connection for real change   Big Concepts Covered: The Leaky Bucket Analogy: Why your diet efforts "leak out" without mastering fundamentals NFL Tryouts Analogy: Dieting without mastering mindset, habits, and nervous system is like trying to join the NFL without learning football The Diet Failure Cycle and how it creates learned helplessness The Shift Change Model™ and why it starts with nervous system mastery The science behind bottom-up signaling and nervous system speed (10⁹ vs. 10 bits per second!) Your 3 primary nervous system states and how they influence food behavior   Reflective Prompts (from the session): How long have you struggled with your relationship with food? What would life feel like if you could leave that struggle behind? What’s the first thing you feel when you hear these words: Weight, Food, Diet, Body Image, Confidence, Peace?   Action Steps: Complete your Day 1 reflection in the All Access Portal. Submit your word associations + takeaways to qualify for fun prizes.       Next Session: Day 2: Mastering Your Beliefs & Identity 📆 Thursday, September 11th 9:00AM PST/ 12:00PM EST   Feeling seen already? This is just the beginning. Stay with us for Day 2 where we’ll explore how your identity and beliefs literally shape your behavior and your body.   Visit my website for more. www.elizakingsford.com

    MYWL Workshop Day 1 - Q&A

MYWL Workshop Day 1 Q&A   Episode Summary: In this live Q&A session following Day 1 of the MYWL Workshop, Eliza Kingsford dives into real-life questions from participants who are struggling with food, frustration, and the shame of “knowing better but not doing better.” Through compassionate coaching and science-backed insight, Eliza unpacks why this happens — and how it connects to your nervous system, identity, and decades of patterned behavior. If you've ever asked yourself, "Why can't I just follow through?" — this is your session.   What You’ll Learn: Why “just do it” is toxic advice when your nervous system is dysregulated How your subconscious patterns override conscious goals The truth about willpower (hint: it’s not a character flaw) How to move from shame to curiosity when change feels hard The importance of noticing and naming your state without judgment Why “fixing” your body doesn’t fix your relationship with food   Big Concepts Covered: “Knowing vs. Doing” Disconnect: Understanding the nervous system’s role in self-sabotage Stress-Induced Eating: How daily stress loads impact decisions even before a trigger moment Shame Spirals: Why failure feels so defeating — and how to reframe it “Tiny Nudges”: Small nervous-system-informed shifts that actually stick The Myth of Control: Why trying to “white-knuckle” your way to change backfires Real client example: “I was calm all day, and then I numbed out at night…” (and what it really meant)   Real Coaching Moments: “If you’ve been dieting for 10, 20, 30 years, you’ve trained your system to not trust you.” “This is not a willpower issue — it’s a survival system doing its job.” “The goal is not to never eat emotionally. The goal is to understand what’s happening underneath.”   Reflection Questions: When do you feel most “out of control” with food? What nervous system state are you typically in when that happens? How would it feel to replace shame with self-study?   Action Steps: Jot down your biggest “aha” from this Q&A — share it in the All Access Portal. Practice one Tiny Nudge today (take a breath, name a state, pause before autopilot). Don’t skip Day 2 — the conversation builds beautifully into beliefs and identity.   What’s Next: Day 2: Mastering Your Beliefs & Identity 📆 Thursday, September 11 🕒 9:00AM PST / 12:00PM EST   This Q&A proves you’re not alone — and you’re not broken. MYWL Day 2

MYWL Workshop Day 2 In this powerful second session of the Master Your Weight Loss (MYWL) Workshop, Eliza Kingsford unpacks why even the best food plans fail when they aren’t aligned with your identity and beliefs. If you've ever felt like you know what to do, but can't get yourself to do it consistently — this session reveals why. Using relatable stories (like “Donna and the gym”), brain-based analogies (like the GPS and white trucks), and research-backed science, Eliza introduces the second core fundamental for sustainable transformation: Aligning Your Identity & Beliefs.   What You’ll Learn: Why your core beliefs control your consistent behaviors How your nervous system and identity are deeply connected Why "self-sabotage" is really a sign of internal misalignment The truth about willpower — and why it never works long-term How your brain filters information based on belief, not desire Why we repeat the same patterns, even when we desperately want change The science behind congruence: matching beliefs with goals for lasting change   Big Concepts Covered: GPS Programming Analogy: Your identity sets the destination; if it’s stuck on “not enough,” your behaviors will follow White Truck Effect: How your brain filters reality based on what you believe is important Hardware vs. Software: Your brain (hardware) runs on the beliefs in your mind (software) The Shift Change Model™ — Part 2: Identity & beliefs sit above nervous system regulation and directly shape consistent habits Learned Helplessness and the psychology of “Why bother?” Two Levels of Healing: Healing to handle pain, and healing to handle joy   Reflective Prompts (from the session): What beliefs are currently shaping your weight loss journey? Do your beliefs align with your desires? (If not, that’s the disconnect.) What do you actually believe is possible for you? What words came to mind when you heard: Weight, Diet, Food, Body Image, Confidence, Peace?   Action Steps: Complete your Day 2 reflection inside the All Access Portal Submit your homework and word associations to stay eligible for prizes Revisit the replay to let new insights “click” — especially after today’s brain science!   Next Session: Day 3: Mastering Your Habits & Behaviors 👉 In the final live workshop, we’ll explore why habits only stick after your nervous system and identity are aligned — and how to finally build sustainable behavior change that lasts.     Visit my website for more. www.elizakingsford.com

    MYWL Day 3

Day 3 – MYWL Workshop  In this powerful and deeply personal session, Eliza opens up about a real-life crisis — a school lockdown that shook her family — and uses it as a vivid teaching moment. She introduces the “Nervous System Bank Account” as a lens to understand why some days feel harder than others, even when “nothing’s wrong.” You’ll learn how emotional regulation, identity, and habits intersect, and why safety is the foundation for lasting transformation — especially in the context of weight loss and personal change.   Key Takeaways: Your emotions aren’t always about what’s happening now — they reflect your nervous system’s overall balance. The Nervous System Bank Account model helps explain why we can feel “off” even in calm moments. You are who you’re in the habit of being — change comes from creating new, aligned automatic behaviors. Habits like familiarity, not motivation. When things feel “bad,” your body defaults to what it knows. Real, lasting weight loss isn’t about willpower. It’s about creating safety, rewiring beliefs, and building sustainable habits.   Concepts Covered: Emotional residue & delayed emotional reactions Regulation vs. dysregulation Identity-based behavior change Autopilot habits & homeostasis Pendulum swing between restriction and bingeing “Safety first” as a strategy for personal change   Next Steps: Reflect: What’s your current nervous system “balance”? What’s been overdrafting you? Consider: What habits are you reinforcing right now, even unconsciously? Join Eliza inside The Shift if you’re ready to work with your brain and body instead of fighting against them.   Next Session: Bonus Session 4: Alumni Panel Call 👉 In the final bonus day, we’ll hear from those that have walked the path of The Shift, and what makes this transformational journey so powerful. Bonus Episode: MYWL Alumni Panel Call

Episode Overview In this powerful alumni panel, you'll hear from five incredible women who’ve completed The Shift, sharing candidly about their real-life transformation journeys. No fluff, no hype—just the truth about what it really takes to heal your relationship with food, body, and self. This is not your typical weight loss success story montage. You’ll hear how nervous system regulation, deep self-worth work, and redefining self-care became the turning points—not just for weight, but for freedom, peace, and joy.   Meet the Alumni Angelique Lifelong cycle of extreme dieting and bingeing. Transformation: Shifted from all-or-nothing eating to empowered choice—"I didn't even want the food anymore." Favorite Takeaway: “I finally feel like I can live a healthy life without hating myself into it.” Tara Struggled with binge eating tied to unresolved trauma and nervous system dysregulation. Transformation: Learned how to pause and ask, “How do I want to feel?” Favorite Takeaway: “You gave me joy, peace, and freedom—not just a new food plan.” Noelle Perimenopause weight gain triggered old diet trauma. Transformation: Took 12 weeks just to learn before making any changes—lost 30 lbs after implementing on her own terms. Favorite Takeaway: “This felt crazy easy… and that’s how I knew it was finally aligned.” Cindy High-stress life as a single mom to a child with special needs. No major food issues—just no space for herself. Transformation: Claimed time, space, and movement just for her. (“Muay Thai and walking saved me.”) Favorite Takeaway: “This is a practice, not a plan. You don’t need boxes to check. You need alignment.” Sandy 40+ years of dieting. Major grief derailed progress. Found Eliza after hitting rock bottom. Transformation: Stopped bingeing, designed her own plan, down 55 lbs and finally feels in control. Favorite Takeaway: “It’s about the weight… but it’s not about the weight. This shift changed my whole life.”   Core Themes and Takeaways Healing Isn’t Linear: The journey is full of setbacks, discovery, and breakthroughs. Every panelist emphasized practice over perfection. Nervous System First: Learning to regulate your nervous system changes everything—eating, emotions, habits, and self-trust. Design Your Own Path: There’s no one right way. What worked was learning how to choose what feels good for you—not following a plan someone else created. Community Matters: Every person on the call spoke about the unexpected power of being seen, heard, and supported by others on the same path. Freedom Over Force: Whether it was walking with a dog, giving up food guilt, or starting slow—each woman found more freedom without rules and restriction.   Memorable Quotes “You have to feel good your way to feeling good.” – Eliza “I can walk away from the food now—without white-knuckling it.” – Angelique “Once I learned about my nervous system, it all made sense.” – Tara “This isn't a plan. It's a practice.” – Cindy “I don't even recognize the woman I was before The Shift.” – Sandy   Listener Q&A Highlights “What should I eat when I start?” Each panelist echoed: There’s no one-size-fits-all. Start by listening to your body. You'll learn what feels good—this isn't a prescriptive plan. “Was the nervous system mapping hard?” Yes—and worth it. Most found it challenging at first, but ultimately essential. It can be emotional, but it builds lasting self-awareness. Final Note from Eliza “These women are not success stories because they followed a plan perfectly. They’re here because they committed to themselves, even when it was messy. That’s the Shift.”   Ready to Feel Good Your Way to Feeling Good? This panel is proof that when you align with your nervous system, self-worth, and intuition—you can change your life. Slowly. Bonus Episode - Will this work for me

Will This Work for Me? The Truth About Change and Success   One of the most common questions I hear is, "Will this work for me?" Today, I'm giving you a confident and resounding YES — and explaining exactly why. This episode dives into the science behind change — not pop psychology, but real physiology — how your brain, nervous system, habits, and identity are wired and how they can be rewired.   We’ll talk about why success isn't a question of if the method works, but if you can prioritize your time and attention to stay in the work long enough for change to happen. You'll also learn the secret truth: it's not about being perfect. It's about learning how to keep going even when your brain tries to pull you back into old patterns. If you’ve ever doubted yourself or worried you’re “too broken” to succeed — this episode is for you.   Key Topics Covered: Why real change is based on physiology — not willpower or luck How time and attention are your most valuable resources in transformation Why setbacks and discouragement are normal parts of the process How to recognize when your brain tries to pull you back — and what to do instead Why you are not broken, and the simple (but powerful) path forward What it really takes to succeed: not giving up on yourself   Action Steps for Listeners: ✅ Reflect: Are you willing to prioritize your time and attention to yourself? ✅ Commit: When discomfort shows up, decide now that you’ll keep moving forward. ✅ Stay connected: Keep showing up for yourself — that's where true change happens.   Invitation: Inside the upcoming program, we’ll work together to recognize old patterns, reverse engineer limiting beliefs, and build real, lasting change through simple but transformative steps.
