Afrikaner Refugees U-Turn | Ed Sheeran's K*k Week | Comrades Marathon Sponsor Victory | Weekly Aweh

An Afrikaner refugee family comes back to South Africa for medical treatment (and a Kauai smoothie?) and gets stuck here. Women are being found murdered in and around Kempton Park, and the price of onions goes up 219%. South Africa, are we okay? KG, Zoë and Stephen unpack the Kempton Park murders and the questions these killings raise about gender-based violence and somehow action seems to fall on running clubs rather than the police. They also discuss the sexual offence charges against suspended deputy national police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya and the Freedom Front Plus’s choice of Bill Harington as its Nelson Mandela Bay mayoral candidate. And then there are the onions. KG has questions. Many, many questions. We end with a win worth talking about: Comrades Marathon’s 2026 sponsor list has NO fossil fuel companies on it. After Politically Aweh and you, our comrades, called for change, and the question is: will Comrades make the break official? And while they’re reviewing the sponsor list, should betting companies be next? Catch us LIVE at the Homecoming Centre in Cape Town on 21 October. KG is joined by Dan Corder, Dillan Oliphant and Lindy Johnson for comedy, news and analysis ahead of the elections. South Africa's R1 Trillion Gambling Crisis Explained | Politically Aweh

South Africans gambled over R1 trillion last year. A 30% jump in twelve months. And you can feel it everywhere. Every billboard. Every rugby jersey. Every airport. Every second ad break. The casino used to be somewhere you drove to. Now it lives in your pocket, right next to your banking app. This week the team goes deep on the gambling boom that's quietly become a national crisis. We spoke to a psychologist working with affected youth. A young person who got hooked and made it out. An economist. An MP pushing for tighter rules. One question kept coming back. If South Africans are losing this much, who exactly is winning? Turns out the answer runs through provincial licensing, political donations, and a few names you might not expect. We followed the money. It led somewhere interesting. Oh, and we made our own betting ad. A more honest one. You'll see. If this one made you think twice and you need to talk to someone, the toll-free gambling helpline is 0800 006 008. Confidential support, any time. SA Cops Lose 541kg of Cocaine & A Reckless SA Flyover | Weekly Aweh

How does 541kg of seized cocaine just vanish? This week we dive into the Madlanga Commission's wildest mysteries, Airlink's stadium stunt, and the ANC forgetting to register 150 candidates. Welcome to the new Weekly Aweh! And honestly? That flyover isn't even top three most unhinged things this week. Stephen, KG and Zoe are back to make you aware. Inside the Commission: a former Hawks boss suddenly "can't recall" a thing, and a witness deposited 300k in 37 transactions in one hour. Meanwhile someone's genuinely proud of 7km of road in 5 years, and the deputy president caught a convenient case of the sniffles. There's a true-or-false quote game, a Big Five cliffhanger, and KG ends it on the pole because why not. Anton Taylor on the Bishops Pride Flag & Toxic Masculinity | Politically Aweh

A pride flag went up at Bishops boys' high school for two whole days during Pride Month, and some of the school's old boys had a full meltdown about it. But here's the thing, they don't all speak for the school. Anton Taylor, another Bishops old boy, took one look at the ooms trying to yank it down and said "absolutely not." Actor, comedian and friend of the show, Anton joins KG for a frank, unfiltered conversation about comedy, masculinity, the culture of boys' schools, and why standing up for the person with the least power in the room is the whole point. Real strength isn't kicking down at the people below you, it's the opposite. You can love rugby and the gym and still not be a bully about it. We get into where toxic masculinity actually comes from, what these schools get right and badly wrong, how comedy fits into all of it, and what it means to be an old boy who wants better for the next lot. How Government Funded South Africa’s Gambling Addiction | Makashule Gana | Politically Aweh

Online gambling in South Africa did not grow. It exploded. And the man shouting loudest about it in Parliament also happens to be chairing the committee looking into the President. Host KG Mokgadi sits down with RISE Mzansi MP Makashule Gana, 26 years in politics, chairperson of the parliamentary committee investigating President Cyril Ramaphosa, and the most persistent voice in Parliament on gambling reform. On the committee he gives KG almost nothing, just that there are rules and they will be followed. On gambling he holds nothing back. He explains how online betting turned a weekend outing into a 24 hour casino that lives in your pocket, why provinces undercut each other on gambling tax while the social damage lands somewhere else entirely, and the uncomfortable timing between the explosion of online gambling and the payment of the Covid SRD grant. He also makes the case that sport survived losing tobacco money and will survive losing betting money too. Along the way: 20 years in the DA, why he left with no regrets, a software testing career he swears he could go back to, and six Comrades marathons that double as thinking time. Then KG makes him rank breakfast cereals. The chairperson holds the line. The Two Reasons the DA Is in Trouble in Cape Town | Tara Roos on The Politically Aweh Podcast

KG sits down with political analyst and author Tara Roos, and honestly, buckle up. She reckons the DA is going to lose its majority in Cape Town, a take that got her cyberattacked,  prompting her to open a case with SAPS. No regrets though. They cover why Cyril's probably safe from impeachment, why MK still can't act like the real opposition, why the anger around xenophobia is pointed in the wrong direction, and why she has zero patience for South Africans who skip voting. She also opens up about what it costs to be a young woman working in politics.. 1976 Youth Leader Seth Mazibuko: I Started a Revolution to Skip Exams | Politically Aweh

In 1976, students marched peacefully for their right to learn. Yet, they were met with bullets. Seth Mazibuko was one of the youngest leaders that day. He calls it the battle of the bullet versus the book. A generation that risked everything for an education. But Seth isn't only looking back. He draws a line from Soweto to #FeesMustFall, to the young South Africans facing record unemployment right now. Courage. Sacrifice. Betrayal. Accountability. And one challenge for this generation: don't just participate in the system. Lead it.
