More Movement Please

Famous Ashley Grant

I walked into my first Zumba class and lasted 15 minutes before I had to leave because I couldn't breathe. I couldn't do a single jumping jack. I couldn't hold a plank. I was using 5-pound dumbbells and calling them my "big weights." That was August 2023. Today? 600+ group fitness classes. 26 pounds down. I'm using 20-pound dumbbells, taking multiple classes in a day, and chasing the high that comes with working out and moving more every chance that I get. I'm Famous Ashley Grant, and More Movement Please is a fitness podcast for women over 40 who are done waiting to feel stronger. Think of it as your fit after 40 survival guide, minus the unrealistic advice and the influencers who make everything look effortless. I record most episodes from my car on the way to and from the gym, so they're quick (5-10 minutes), honest, and easy to binge. Think of me as your workout buddy who keeps it real. This show is part accountability, part education, part inspiration. I talk about beginner fitness tips, gym motivation, what to do when you sleep through your alarm, why most fitness influencers are full of it, and how small lifestyle changes beat crash diets every single time. Sometimes I bring on guests — like my YMCA instructor Rhonda Goode, who told me the thing that changed everything: "Everyone is busy, but it's a choice to schedule exercise just like anything else." The goal isn't a number on a scale. It's getting strong, feeling better in your body, and building a community of people who believe they deserve to move. I want this to be more than a podcast. I want it to be a movement of movement. Subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes weekly. Onwards and upwards, friends. Have you worked out today? Is Walking Enough? The Guilt of "Just" Moving Your Body

Is a walk and some stretching really "enough" movement, or does that guilty voice in your head know something you don't? Ashley gets real about the shame spiral that hits even after a full year of daily movement, and breaks down what the American Heart Association and Harvard Medical School actually recommends. She walks through the real numbers behind the 150 minutes a week guideline, why sitting for hours at a stretch carries real health risks, and why "enough" movement looks different for everybody. This episode is a reminder that grace matters as much as effort, that moving throughout your day counts, and that you don't have to earn your rest by going full throttle every single time. No diet talk. No guilt trips. Just an honest conversation about showing up for your body, one walk at a time. This podcast is for entertainment purposes only and is not medical advice. When Every Rep Feels Wrong: Showing Up on Your Worst Gym Day

I walked into the gym on zero sleep, dealing with health issues, and honestly not wanting to be there at all. My form was off, I missed steps in the Zumba routines, and even my instructor called me out when I was struggling to lift my weights. In this episode, I get real about what it's like to push through a genuinely bad workout instead of skipping it altogether, and why that choice matters more than nailing every move. I think back to my very first Zumba class in August 2023, when I had to walk out after fifteen minutes, and compare it to where I am now. This one's for anyone who's ever dragged themselves to the gym feeling defeated. Consistency isn't about perfect workouts. It's about refusing to let yourself off the hook, even on the hard days. Day 365: I Didn't Die (One Year of Moving My Body Every Single Day)

She said she'd move her body every single day for a year, and today she found out if she could actually pull it off. In this episode, Ashley recaps day 365 (and episode 100) of More Movement Please, walking through the Zumba, Tabata, and spin class that closed out a full year of daily movement after two decades of being sedentary. She talks honestly about the health scares that pushed her to start, the balance and strength she didn't expect to gain, and why she's not slowing down for year two. If you've ever wondered whether consistency really works or felt like it's too late to start moving your body, this one's for you. Why I Record This From My Car: The Story Behind the Mess

Most of the episodes of this podcast get recorded from the front seat of my car, and today I'm finally telling you why. In this milestone episode, I open up about the ADHD brain that needs a calendar appointment to get anything done, why removing every excuse is the only way I stay consistent, and why I refuse to turn this podcast into another polished highlight reel. This is episode 100 and day 365 of moving my body, and I want you in the mess with me for year two. This podcast is for entertainment purposes only and is not medical advice. Music and Movement: Why I Can't Work Out in Silence

I didn't realize how much I relied on music until I got stuck doing squats in a gas station parking lot with no playlist at all. In this episode, I talk about why the right song can carry you through the hardest part of a workout, what happened when I tried to move without music, and why my instructor Rhonda's playlist at the YMCA might be the best one I've ever heard. If your workouts feel harder than they should, this episode might be the missing piece. This podcast is for entertainment purposes only and is not medical advice. Why I'm Doing This in My 40s, For the Woman I'll Be at 70

I've never told anyone this, but I was on blood pressure medication for a few months long before I even turned forty, and it scared me more than I can explain. Sadly, even that wasn't enough to get me to move my body...but it should have been. In this episode, I talk about why every workout I do now isn't really for today, it's for the woman I'll be at seventy, eighty, and beyond. I get into why strength and mobility now mean independence later, and why fitness in your 40s is really about protecting your freedom for decades to come. If I Started Over: The Mistakes I'd Skip This Time

I wasted money on weight loss pills and shots, and the second I stopped, the weight came right back on. In this episode, I get honest about the fitness mistakes I'd skip if I could start over, from diet culture guilt to obsessing over the scale. I share what I'd tell my younger self, why rest matters as much as movement, and how to make sure you're moving for yourself, not for anyone else. If you're just getting started, this one can save you time, money, and a lot of guilt. This podcast is for entertainment purposes only and is not medical advice. The Goals That Scare Me for Year Two

Ashley breaks down what she's learned after a full year of daily movement and why this was never meant to be a temporary challenge. She talks about her goal to consistently reach for 20 pound and 10 pound dumbbells, her hope to finally fit into smaller pants after dropping four sizes, and her plan to move throughout the entire day instead of just during workouts. She also shares why she wants to grow the accountability community and get more people moving, plus the new activities she's adding to her routine, including hiking, biking, dance classes, and maybe even kickboxing. If you've ever finished a fitness goal and wondered what comes next, this episode will help you figure out how to keep going without burning out.
