You Can't Navigate What You Don't Name

If you don't know who you are, how do you know which way to go? The October series ends with the practical episode we promised: how to actually move through change. Deanna and Ang start in the center of the compass (the needle, which is you) and then walk through four directions: North, Name the threshold. East, Express gratitude. South, Spot resistance. West, Welcome change. Along the way: what throws your needle off, three kinds of change (including the one nobody sends flowers for), the "thank, grieve, welcome" practice, why one step forward and two steps back is normal, mapping your skills, values, people, and strategies, and the smallest step you can take this week. The episode closes with a short guided walk around the compass. Let It *Grow*: Navigating Change Through Grief and Loss

What makes letting go so hard, and what do we grow when we finally open our hands? Deanna and Ang get honest about what they're releasing right now: youth and the body that carried them, a last child about to graduate, friendships that are changing, and the losses no one sends flowers for. Then our friend Sara Amos, LCSW, owner of Sparrow Creek Counseling in Nashville, explains what grief does to the brain and body, why anxiety so often follows loss, why grief can return years later, and how to show up for someone who is grieving. What Are You Protecting? Understanding Resistance to Change

EPISODE DESCRIPTION Why do we resist change—even when we know something needs to shift? In this episode, Angela and Deanna explore the “guardian” within us: the protective part that keeps us attached to what is familiar. From active pushback to quiet avoidance, they unpack the different ways resistance shows up, the hidden commitments beneath it, and how to meet change with curiosity instead of shame. HIGHLIGHTS 00:00 - The question: why do we resist change? 01:25 - Change, seasons, and the cost of letting go 06:00 - The hero’s journey and the call to change 14:18 - Active vs. passive resistance 17:36 - Meet the guardian at the door 18:34 - Four resistance patterns: unqualified, runner, homebody, responsible one 23:28 - Why familiar can feel safer than change 25:00 - Status quo bias and the path of least resistance 28:19 - “I’m not ready” is not failure 31:00 - Hidden commitments: what are we saying yes to instead? 38:22 - The heroine’s journey: coming home to yourself 46:45 - What happens when we keep holding on? 52:00 - Why community makes change more possible 55:01 - Guided pause: notice the guardian at your door 56:08 - Free companion guide and next week’s episode Show Music: Just Like Me by, ThruLine The Morning Share Podcast is produced, edited, and mixed by Angela Boeckman and Deanna West. Navigating Life Transitions: What season are you in?

What season of life are you in—and what might it be trying to reveal? In the first episode of our series on transitions, D and Ang explore the rhythms of change: beginnings, endings, grief, growth, discomfort, and the in-between places that are often difficult to name. From autumn leaves and wide-open North Dakota horizons to Carl Jung’s “two halves of life” and Richard Rohr’s image of the “container and contents,” this conversation offers language for understanding what may be shifting within you. A season is not proof that something is wrong with you. It may simply be information about where you are. In this episode, we talk about: • How to recognize when a season is changing • Why more than one season can exist in your life at the same time • The difference between common transitions and your unique experience of them • What nature can teach us about letting go and revealing what is already inside us • Carl Jung and Richard Rohr’s framework for the first and second halves of life • Why identity, roles, and achievement can be necessary—but are not the whole story • How to hold gratitude for what is beginning while still grieving what is ending This week, take a moment to ask yourself: What season am I in right now? If this episode resonates with you, like, subscribe, and share it with someone navigating change. The Morning Share Podcast is produced, edited, and mixed by Angela Boeckman and Deanna West.
