The Scam Economy & The Daily Admin Tax of Being Alive | NFNP 2x27

Bright and Duds are back for NFNP 2x27, and this week the question is simple: Is everything a scam now? After the success of the Mark Greaves housing episodes, the guys roll straight into another piece of modern American misery: the scam economy and the daily admin tax of being alive. Fraud is not just stolen credit cards anymore. It is fake texts, fake toll notices, fake package alerts, fake fraud alerts, identity theft, hacked accounts, medical bills you cannot understand, collections calls you do not trust, insurance headaches, broken refrigerators, busted A/C units, school emails, kids’ activities, home repairs, and the constant feeling that you are one missed message away from financial chaos. Bright brings the fraud numbers: billions lost to scams, identity fraud, account takeovers, phishing, crypto fraud and social media scams. Duds shares how his Gmail account got hacked, how a fake Walmart purchase almost went through, and why he now uses Proton Mail, password managers and email aliases like a man preparing for digital war. Then the guys get into the real heart of the episode: how impossible it is to know what is real anymore. Is that medical bill legit? Is that collections call real? Is that toll notice a scam? Did insurance process the claim correctly? Why does one doctor visit create four separate bills? And why does every extension cord apparently need an app, a login, a password and your personal data? The conversation moves from identity theft to medical debt, from collections agencies to healthcare billing, from A/C repair to refrigerator disaster, from ChatGPT helping with disputes to AI making scammers more dangerous. Then Duds brings in the surprise perfect closer: Avocado Oilgate. A UC Davis study found that many processed foods labeled as made with avocado oil may not be as pure as consumers think. Chips, mayo, salad dressings — all the expensive “better for you” stuff people buy to avoid seed oils — suddenly become another example of the scam economy. Because apparently even when you pay extra to do the healthy thing, the system may still be laughing at you from behind a private equity spreadsheet. It is fraud, spam, bills, collections, healthcare, AI, home repairs, avocado oil and the exhaustion of modern life. In other words: everything is a scam, and your refrigerator is next. Can Anyone Afford a House Anymore? Mark Greaves Returns Pt. 2 | NFNP 2x26

Original NFNP member Mark Greaves returns for Part 2, and this time the guys finally get into the housing conversation. Bright, Duds and Mark break down one of the biggest questions facing regular people right now: Can anyone actually afford a house anymore? Mark brings his mortgage experience to the table as the guys compare the housing market of 2019 to today: home prices, mortgage rates, monthly payments, insurance, income, inflation, first-time buyer age, student loans and why so many younger buyers feel completely boxed out. From there, the conversation goes full NFNP. Mark explains why experience matters when choosing a loan officer, why first-time buyers should shop around instead of blindly using whoever their realtor recommends, and how local banks, mortgage brokers and bigger retail lenders can all offer very different paths depending on the buyer. Then the guys get into the bigger money questions: M1, M2, the Federal Reserve, debt, bonds, fractional reserve banking, money creation, Bitcoin, goldbacks and why Mark’s kids apparently understand inflation better than most adults. They also talk HELOCs, home equity, property taxes and the very uncomfortable question Mark’s ten-year-old asked him: If the government can still take your house when you stop paying property taxes… do you really own it? And because Mark is an original NFNP member, the episode closes with old Posse stories: kindergarten soccer, Catholic school basketball, the doorknob incident, Bright’s braces, broken fingers, poker nights, grilled cheese covered in potato chips, newspaper chaos, flaming porch mistakes and the legendary stolen gas cap that was returned two years later with a note signed “the thief.” It’s mortgages, fake money, homeownership, Bitcoin, old friends and the kind of teenage stupidity that makes you realize the original NFNP was never a podcast. It was a warning label. Listen, follow and join the Posse: NFNPPOD.com Find Mark: tithelending.com & markgreaves.com First and Focused with Mark Greaves

City SC Posse - Ep22: RSL Opportunity, 7th & Climbing, Ostrák Broke the Bus

St. Louis CITY SC is no longer just trying to survive the season. CITY is 7th, climbing, and suddenly staring at a massive opportunity against Real Salt Lake. On this episode of City SC Posse, Bright and Kev switch up the usual format and start with the Real Salt Lake preview before circling back to the Colorado recap. CITY sits on 25 points with an even goal differential, while Real Salt Lake is one of the teams directly ahead in the Western Conference. A win could push CITY into a much more serious table position very quickly. The guys talk about CITY’s current momentum, the new reinforcements, why a true No. 9 still feels like the missing piece, and what they want to see from the lineup against RSL. They also get into the Wallem debate after listener feedback, the surprise of Löwen not starting against Colorado, and why the attack still needs to run through Marcel Hartel. There is also plenty of discussion around the Hartel transfer rumors. Bright and Kev both agree that moving Hartel now would feel counterintuitive unless the player himself wanted the move. With CITY finally climbing the table and new attacking pieces arriving, shipping out the player driving the turnaround would probably make CITY fans reach for torches, pitchforks, and maybe whatever is left of their toasted ravioli. Then it is back to the Colorado match. CITY beat Colorado 1-0 at Home, but it was not exactly a beautiful masterpiece. Colorado picked up an early red card, CITY played up a man for most of the match, and the attack spent long stretches stuck in wide pass, backward pass, switch field, repeat mode. Colorado parked the bus, threw away the keys, and dared CITY to figure it out. Eventually, Tomáš Ostrák broke through. After a switch of play and a smart header back from Totland, Ostrák took a touch and buried the winner off the post. It was the release CITY needed, the crowd needed, and probably Ostrák needed after a career in St. Louis interrupted too often by injuries. CITY won ugly, climbed to 7th, and now Real Salt Lake comes to town. Listen now at NFNPPOD.com.

Mark Greaves Returns: Bitcoin, Business, Faith & the Bread Co Betrayal - Pt. 1 | NFNP 2x25

Original NFNP member Mark Greaves is back with the Posse. Bright and Duds welcome Mark Greaves, a childhood friend, Ohio State volleyball alum, mortgage expert, business owner, podcaster and founder of Tithe Lending, for Part 1 of a two-part conversation. The guys start with old NFNP energy, Rush concert talk, growing up in St. Louis, moving away to Ohio and never really coming back. From there, the conversation turns into Bitcoin, crony capitalism, inflation, big tech, faith, business burnout, mission-driven work and why Mark walked away from the giant mortgage machine to build something smaller, more intentional and rooted in giving. Mark explains the story behind Tithe Lending, how the business gives back through Christian ministries and charities, and why more people seem to be searching for something sturdier in a chaotic world. Then, after Mark jumps off, Bright and Duds hit the big St. Louis story of the week: Panera, or Bread Co if you were raised correctly, moving its headquarters out of St. Louis. The guys talk local pride, corporate decisions, cost of living, Boston vs. St. Louis, AI, quiet layoffs, and why another St. Louis company leaving town feels personal. Plus, a quick City SC Posse tease before a huge match against Real Salt Lake. Part 2 with Mark drops next week, featuring the full housing and mortgage conversation, home prices, interest rates, first-time buyers, HELOCs, property taxes, money being created out of thin air, and old NFNP stories involving broken braces, broken fingers, poker nights, stolen gas caps and teenage stupidity that probably should have stayed buried. City SC Posse - Ep21: CITY Is 8th, Hartel Is Cooking, and Colorado Is Next

St. Louis CITY SC is no longer just playing better. CITY is officially climbing. On this episode of City SC Posse, Bright and Kev recap CITY’s 3-1 road win over LA Galaxy, a result that pushed St. Louis into 8th place in the Western Conference and continued one of the hottest runs of form in MLS. Bright opens by welcoming new listeners and explaining what City SC Posse is all about: casual fan reaction, the eye test, match impressions, standings, stadium experience, and the moments fans actually talk about. The guys break down the LA win, starting with Kyle McNaughton’s strong header to open the scoring and the immediate Galaxy response that forced Roman Bürki into an important save on Marco Reus. Bürki’s return matters after the strange “fitness” questions from the previous match and Ben Lundt’s costly mistake against Sporting KC. Then Marcel Hartel took over. His first-half stoppage-time goal gave CITY a 2-0 lead at halftime, and he finished the night with a goal and two assists. Bright and Kev discuss how Hartel is becoming the attacking centerpiece for CITY and why his recent form changes the feel of the entire offense. The Becher conversation is also back. Simon Becher scored CITY’s third goal after a beautiful quick passing move, helped draw the Galaxy red card, and remains a useful, annoying, high-energy forward. But he also missed multiple chances, which keeps the No. 9 debate alive. Bright and Kev also discuss the Garcés red card, Damet’s postgame comments, CITY’s refusal to just sit back after going up a man, and the frustration of losing the clean sheet on a late defensive breakdown. Even with some cleanup needed, this was a real road win and another sign that CITY’s form is not a fluke. Then the focus shifts to Colorado. CITY is now 8th, riding a six or seven match unbeaten run depending on whether you include the Open Cup, and has a home match against a Colorado team it recently beat on the road. Bright and Kev talk lineup questions, whether Sang-Bin should start, Wallem’s availability, Mățan potentially being available, betting angles, and why Saturday is a real chance to keep climbing the Western Conference table. CITY went to LA and made a statement. Now Colorado comes to St. Louis. Listen now at NFNPPOD.com.

AI Is Loose! Money Is Fake! The System Is Rigged! STL Rams Cash | NFNP 2x24

AI is loose. Money is fake. The system is rigged. And St. Louis finally figured out how to spend the Rams cash. Bright and Duds are back for NFNP 2x24, starting with a mid-summer blah mood before spiraling into quarter-life crises, useless degrees, AI taking over work, and the possibility that artificial intelligence is already breaking out of the box. The guys get into a wild AI story involving a sandbox, hacking, online access and the kind of “oops” moment that sounds like the opening scene of a movie where humanity loses. From there, they hit gambling apps, casino glitches, Queen of Hearts raffles, taxes, and why the house always seems to find a “technical issue” when somebody actually wins. Then it is World Cup talk, NFNPPOD’s Wrexham story getting real traction, City SC Posse momentum, voter-roll concerns, Missouri tax talk, capitalism vs. socialism, Elon Musk, crony capitalism, Bitcoin, inflation, childcare, utilities and the middle-class squeeze. Plus, Broken Lizard brought Super Troopers 3 promotion to St. Louis, AI is writing blogs and grading papers, and the city finally approved spending hundreds of millions from the Rams settlement — with plenty going to infrastructure, tornado recovery and downtown revitalization, but nothing directly to the police. It is a classic NFNP summer spiral: AI, money, politics, St. Louis, sports, scams, systems and one simple question: Who is actually in charge here? Listen, follow and join the posse: NFNPPOD.com

City SC Posse - Ep20: CITY is Rolling, the Signings Are Here, and Galaxy Is Next

City SC Posse is back for Episode 20, and suddenly the season feels alive again. Bright and Kev start by thanking everyone who watched, listened, shared, and supported the Wrexham AFC bonus episode, which became the show’s biggest episode so far. After the original Wrexham story, the stolen rental car, the missing souvenirs, and Wrexham AFC replacing the entire order, the bonus episode brought in thousands of streams and new listeners to NFNPPOD and City SC Posse. Then it is back to St. Louis CITY business. CITY beat Sporting KC 3-2 at Energizer Park, and Kev was there with Pop to take in the rivalry win. The guys talk through the atmosphere, the Thursday night crowd, the lack of SKC blue in the building, and what it felt like to be back after the World Cup break. The recap gets into the biggest talking points from the match: Roman Bürki not being in the lineup or even on the bench, Ben Lundt getting the start, Sang-Bin Jeong continuing to produce, Marcel Hartel looking like a true DP, Eduard Löwen burying the late penalty, and CITY nearly making a comfortable rivalry win way more stressful than it needed to be. CITY’s goals came from Sang-Bin, Hartel, and Löwen, while the team finished with 21 shots, 7 on target, 56% possession, stronger passing numbers, and the three points they absolutely needed against the worst team in the league. The win pushed CITY into 10th place in the Western Conference, just one point behind LA Galaxy, making Wednesday night’s road match a real playoff-line opportunity. A few weeks ago, CITY looked buried. Now they are in form, climbing the table, and suddenly playing matches that actually matter again. Then the guys preview LA Galaxy. CITY has a chance to leapfrog LA, keep the momentum going, and prove this recent run is more than a brief post-break sugar rush. Bright and Kev talk win probability, whether a road draw would be acceptable, the possibility of another high-scoring CITY-Galaxy match, and why a 2-2 result feels very much on the table. Finally, the transfer window woke up. CITY officially added Alexandru Mățan, a Romanian attacking midfielder with MLS experience, Columbus Crew ties, a Damet connection, and a trophy-winning background. The guys also discuss the reported Carlo Holse move, the biggest signing in club history if finalized, and what both attacking additions mean for Hartel, Löwen, Becher, Sang-Bin, and the rest of the front line. The big question remains: Did CITY add enough finishing, or did they just add more creativity? The signings are here. CITY is rolling. Galaxy is next. Listen now at NFNPPOD.com
