Addicted to Vengeance: Florida's "Criminal" Justice System

Smoking a crack pipe is known as "sucking the Devil's dick." Florida's conservative majority is as addicted to vengeance as any "rock monster" was ever addicted to cocaine. And the high is neurologically comparable. Both activate the brain's reward circuitry, producing short-highs and long-term damage. This episode reviews the alternative. FreedomForceFlorida.org

Behind the Woodshed: A Childhood of Sexual Abuse and Self-Hate

In this episode, hosts Michael Williams and Tabitha Brown review a harrowing memoir, Behind the Woodshed: A Childhood of Sexual Abuse and Self-Hate. Millie Anderson chronicles a cycle of multigenerational sexual abuse, systemic family betrayal, and extreme neglect. Written with the assistance of artificial intelligence, the text details her early childhood trauma within a "machine for abuse" in rural Georgia, involving her uncle, cousins, and father. The author explores the profound psychological consequences of her experiences, including hypersexuality, drug addiction, and racial identity struggles as a biracial child in a prejudiced environment. She describes her path to survival through homelessness and her eventual decision to seek justice by reporting her abusers to the authorities. Despite facing a terminal ovarian cancer diagnosis at eighteen with an estimated five years to live, she shares her story to provide a roadmap for other survivors and to urge adults to intervene when children are in danger. The narrative concludes with an epilogue about her unconventional relationship with an incarcerated man, reflecting her lifelong search for unconditional love and protection. Born Again: The Role of Religion in Rehabilitation - Part 2

Dr. Lisa Miller’s research explores the scientific intersection of spirituality and human flourishing, arguing that a sense of transcendence is a natural human capacity rather than a cultural invention. Her psychological and neuroscientific findings serve as an empirical validation for Quantum Christianity, a framework developed by Randolph Baggett that views the divine as a field of positive energy and information. Both perspectives agree that spiritual engagement activates dimensions of consciousness that foster resilience, healing, and emotional regulation. This synergy suggests that spiritual development is a powerful protective factor against depression and addiction. Ultimately, these sources illustrate how science and faith function as complementary partners to describe the human need for connection to a larger reality. By aligning individual awareness with a broader spiritual field, people can achieve greater psychological coherence and purpose, offering transformative potential for fields like criminal justice reform. Born Again: The Role of Religion in Rehabilitation - Part 1

This episode explores Randolph Baggett's claim in his book Corrections: Neuroscience and Prison Administration that the "born again" religious experience serves as a powerful psychological framework for identity reconstruction and prisoner rehabilitation. By establishing a decisive break from the past, this narrative allows individuals to replace a "criminal" self-concept with a new identity supported by community validation and a sense of divine grace. Research suggests that while the theological content is meaningful to many, the true efficacy of faith-based programs often lies in mentoring and consistent social support. Baggett argues that correctional facilities should incorporate the core elements of this "redemption script" - such as public testimony and clear milestones - into both religious and secular rehabilitative paths. Ultimately, he highlights that successful transformation requires a supportive environment that separates an individual's inherent value from their past harmful behaviors. Sex Offenders: Is There Hope?

This episode explores how neuroscience informs the potential for rehabilitating individuals who have committed sexual offenses. It highlights the concept of neuroplasticity, explaining that the brain can form new neural pathways through cognitive-behavioral therapy and other sustained interventions. While structural brain differences and factors like psychopathy or deep-seated paraphilias can make treatment more difficult, the research suggests that biological change is possible. The hosts also emphasize the impact of childhood trauma on brain development and impulse control, suggesting that trauma-informed care is essential for success. Ultimately, the material argues that long-term treatment and post-release support are necessary to reinforce healthier cognitive patterns and reduce recidivism. This overview provides a scientific framework for understanding why some offenders are more amenable to change than others.

Etiquette: The Hidden Rules of Power

Ready for some controversy?Join hosts Michael Williams and Tabitha Brown as they explore how formal etiquette training can serve as a vital tool for criminal rehabilitation and social mobility by making the "hidden curriculum" of white professional spaces accessible to Black Americans. It argues that systemic exclusion from these social norms creates a deficit in cultural capital, which contributes to the cycle of recidivism and economic marginalization. By examining military protocols as a successful model of explicit instruction, the text suggests that teaching these behavioral codes allows individuals to achieve bicultural competence without sacrificing their own identity. The hosts conclude that integrating cultural brokering and social capital development into prison programs is essential for overcoming the racialized barriers inherent in the American justice system. This approach aims to provide formerly incarcerated individuals with the practical tools necessary to navigate and succeed within dominant institutional structures. What do you think?
