    Mormon Trivia

Today Sophia sits down for a chat with Stella to see just how Molly Mormon she really is. Can Stella pass Mormon trivia?  Question themes feature the oddities of retro “For the Strength of Youth” guidelines, an important invention by a Latter-Day Saint, Joseph Smith’s brief drag stint, and musings on the geological origin of his seer stone.  Along the way, we answer a long-pondered question among Mormons: what is necking and petting?  💒💋 Sources:  Seer Stone Geology https://latterdaysaintmag.com/the-surprising-geology-of-joseph-smiths-brown-seer-stone/ Joseph Smith’s Creative Escape https://www.ldsliving.com/15-fascinating-facts-about-joseph-smith/s/78412 https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/2011/04/rebecca-swain-williams-steadfast-and-immovable?lang=eng Prophet Catchphrases https://www.ldsliving.com/15-fascinating-facts-about-joseph-smith/s/78412 Women praying in General Conference https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2013/04/08/176604202/a-womans-prayer-makes-mormon-history General Conference Speakers https://churchhistorylibrary.churchofjesuschrist.org/guides/general-conference?lang=eng&utm LDS Inventor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philo_Farnsworth https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/1989/04/the-effects-of-television?lang=eng Tabernacle Choir’s Presidential Performances https://www.thechurchnews.com/2021/1/20/23218032/the-tabernacle-choir-went-to-washington-u-s-president-inauguration/ https://time.com/4619836/donald-trump-inauguration-mormon-tabernacle-choir/ Share a Molly Mormon Moment with us to be featured on the pod! Party like it’s 1847

Join us as we dive deeper into the Sesquicentennial Trek of 1997. One hundred and fifty years after the pioneers first arrived in Utah, hundreds of Mormons came together to commemorate the historic occasion. The task? Reenact the actual trek of the pioneers, from Omaha to Salt Lake City, as accurately as possible. What’s allowed? Singing hymns. What’s not allowed? Eating vegetables. And a bunch of other stuff. We’ll be sharing real journal entries that reveal the trials and triumphs of the Sesquicentennial trek experience, courtesy of a lovely listener of the podcast.  We’ll also share three other trek truths from listeners who experienced hardships of their own — including lunch-stealing fake families, crossing a highway with handcarts,  and being awoken by gunfire to walk five miles in the middle of the night.  Thanks for listening!  Share a Molly Mormon Moment with us to be featured on the pod! Did You Think to Poop?

    | “I thought my life was going to end while I was on the toilet.” —Molly (name has been changed)  Have you or a loved one ever pooped your pants on an LDS mission? You may be entitled to commiserating with us for the next hour.  Friend of the pod “Molly” joins Loud Laughter today to share the unfortunate tale of contracting parasites on the mission, resulting in some… mishaps. Locations include the toilet, the living room, mid-air, during an earthquake, and worst of all, inside of the temple. Share a Molly Mormon Moment with us to be featured on the pod! The Truth About Trek

    | We’re finally back! Today we’re talking Trek, the pioneer cosplay camp that’s been a hit with Mormon teens since 1966. What better way to honor your ancestors than to dress up like them and recreate the hardest part of their lives? In Part 1 of our 2-part Trek series, we’ll uncover the history of Trek: when, why, and how did Trek become a tradition? We’ll assess familiar features, such as the Women’s Pull, as well as defunct Trek practices like turkey hunts, history exams, and compulsory fasting while walking 15 miles per day… Listen until the end of the episode, and you may just earn yourself a nice piece of jerky and a stale roll!  Share a Molly Mormon Moment with us to be featured on the pod! We're (Still) In Our Improvement Era!

    | In a church of eternal progression, we're always in our improvement era. But today we're talking about THE Improvement Era. That's right, we're back with more crazy articles from the great-grandpa of church magazines. We'll cover the EVILS of playing cards, why tall people should ONLY marry short people, and an unhinged (and almost erotic??) tale about how (or how not to) propose to your gal.  We want to hear from you! We Read the Improvement Era So You Don’t Have To

    | You may have heard of the Ensign, the Liahona, and the Friend, but have you heard of the Improvement Era?? The Improvement Era is the weird, eccentric great-great-grandpa of church magazines. And today, we are bringing you the wackiest articles we handpicked from 1900-1909. You’ll hear about the power of a friendly handshake, doctors’ drama over digestion, and why hot cocoa is basically the same thing as cocaine. One thing this episode will not concern itself with, however, is the tragic sorrow of the Mexican emperor, during the six months which followed his Christmas visit to the old Mexican palace occupied by his countryman and friend the Prince Salm Salm. (Don’t worry, you’ll get it later.) Share a Molly Mormon Moment with us to be featured on the pod! We want to hear from you!
