    Lindsey Rossow-Rood on Giving Back, Nonprofit Funding & Making an Impact

    In this episode of Opening Doors, I sit down with Lindsey Rossow-Rood, Associate Vice President of Donor Services at the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, for a conversation about giving back, supporting nonprofits, and connecting people who want to make a difference with the organizations doing important work in our communities. Lindsey shares how her career began in social work and how losing her first job when a critical grant fell through changed the direction of her career. That experience led her into fundraising and ultimately to more than 25 years of working with donors, families, corporations, and nonprofit organizations. We also talk about my own experience with the Community Foundation through CARES and how that partnership is helping us think beyond what our community needs today and build toward a sustainable future. Lindsey explains how the Community Foundation works with nonprofits seeking funding, individuals and families who want to give, and organizations interested in building long-term endowments. One of my favorite messages from this conversation is simple: do not be afraid to reach out and ask for help. You do not have to have everything figured out before starting the conversation. And, as always, we end with the question I ask every guest: What would you tell a younger version of yourself?     Zehra Kapasi on Building Rose Best: Natural Skincare, Purpose & Giving Back

    In this episode of Opening Doors, I sit down with my friend Zehra Kapasi, founder of Rose Best, to hear the incredible story behind one of Farmington’s newest small businesses. What started as a simple soap-making activity through a book club in 1997 became a lifelong passion. Zehra shares how a career in psychology unexpectedly led her into handcrafted skincare, why she spent years perfecting her recipes, and how Rose Best has grown into a company built on quality, transparency, and giving back. We also talk about what makes Rose Best different. Every product is handcrafted in Michigan using halal ingredients and is made without alcohol, parabens, sulfates, or artificial colorants.     Everything You Need to Know About the 2026 CARES Duck Race

    One of my favorite days of the year is almost here! In this episode, I sit down with Andrea Nolan and Mary Beth Miller from CARES to talk about the annual CARES Duck Race and why it has become such a special tradition for so many families in our community. Of course, there is the excitement of watching thousands of little yellow ducks race down the river, but this event is about so much more than that. It is about neighbors helping neighbors, making memories with your family, and making sure CARES can continue serving hundreds of local families every month.     The People Behind CARES: A Conversation with Ken Massey & Gary Bulson

    In this episode of Opening Doors, I sit down with Ken Massey, a CARES founding member and former board member, and Gary Bulson, a current CARES board member and owner of Men on the Move. Ken shares how a conversation with former Farmington Hills Mayor Jerry Ellis and CARES Executive Director Todd Lippa led to the creation of CARES. What began as an effort to preserve a small food pantry has grown into the Campus of Hope, serving families throughout our community. Gary shares how his lifelong commitment to volunteering led him to CARES and why he is proud to help guide the organization into the future. We also discuss the reality of suburban hunger, the importance of treating every family with dignity, and the hundreds of volunteers who make the work of CARES possible. This conversation is a reminder that food insecurity can affect anyone, and that a caring community can help people move from scarcity toward hope.
