Mary, Queen of Scots: Martyr, Monarch, or Restless Spirit? (Trailer)

Mary, Queen of Scots remains one of the most compelling and tragic figures in British history. A queen from infancy, raised at the French court and eventually returned to a Scotland divided by politics and religion, Mary's life became inseparable from questions of power, legitimacy and the English crown. But behind the titles, the marriages, the accusations and the political struggle was a woman whose final years were spent largely in captivity — watched, moved between houses and ultimately condemned to death by the order of her cousin, Elizabeth I. In this episode of Beyond Haunted UK, we explore Mary's extraordinary life, the events that brought her to Fotheringhay Castle in 1587, and the execution that would ensure her story was never forgotten. We also look beyond the history. Centuries after her death, stories of Mary's restless spirit continue to surround places connected with her life and imprisonment. From castles and great houses to accounts of unexplained figures and lingering presences, we explore how Mary's story has passed from documented history into folklore and the paranormal. Why does Mary continue to fascinate us more than four centuries later? And when a life ends with betrayal, imprisonment and violence, is it surprising that people imagine something of that person might remain behind? This is the story of Mary, Queen of Scots — not simply as a queen or a historical figure, but as a woman caught between two crowns, two countries and a struggle that ultimately cost her her life. 🎧 Listen to Beyond Haunted UK on SoundCloud: Some music used in this production is licensed through Artlist.Artlist AI Suite Licence Number: Te2OXc. Rendelsham Forest - Britians Roswell

What really happened in Rendlesham Forest? In December 1980, a routine military patrol entered the woods beside RAF Woodbridge expecting to investigate a possible aircraft crash. What they reported instead would become one of the most debated and enduring mysteries in modern British history. Known as the Rendlesham Forest Incident, the case has been described as Britain's most famous UFO encounter. Military witness testimony, official memoranda, audio recordings and decades of investigation have fuelled a debate that continues more than forty years later. In this episode of Beyond Haunted UK, Jamie travels to Rendlesham Forest to walk the same paths, examine the evidence and explore one of the world's most compelling unexplained cases. The episode also features extracts from the original Halt Tape — the audio recording made by Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt during the investigation in Rendlesham Forest — allowing you to hear parts of the incident as they were documented at the time. Was it a misidentified lighthouse, atmospheric conditions, secret military technology... or something that still defies explanation? This is not simply a story about UFOs. It's a story about evidence, memory, perception and humanity's search for answers when certainty remains just beyond our reach. Topics covered: Rendlesham Forest, RAF Bentwaters, RAF Woodbridge, Charles Halt, Halt Tape, Halt Memo, UFO, UAP, Cold War, military history, unexplained phenomena, witness testimony, Suffolk, documentary, paranormal investigation. King James, Witchcraft and the Book That Changed Britain

What does it feel like to hold one of the most influential books in British history? In this episode of Beyond Haunted UK, I travel to the British Library's Rare Books Reading Room to examine a rare first edition of Daemonologie, published in 1597 by King James VI of Scotland, who would later become King James I of England. Written during a period of intense fear surrounding witchcraft and the supernatural, Daemonologie sought to explain witches, demons, spirits and the Devil's influence over humanity. More than four centuries later, it remains one of the most significant primary sources for understanding the beliefs that helped shape Britain's witch trials. Drawing on my own visit to the British Library, I explore the history behind the book, my experience of seeing and handling an original first edition, the fascinating details hidden within its pages, and why this small volume continues to influence our understanding of one of history's darkest chapters. This episode is not simply about witchcraft. It's about fear, belief, power and the extraordinary influence that a single book can have on history. Topics covered: Daemonologie, King James VI, King James I, British Library, witchcraft, witch trials, demonology, Scottish witch hunts, history, folklore, rare books, James VI, primary sources, 1597, supernatural beliefs. The Man At The End Of My Bed: A True Story

For years, I convinced myself it had been a dream. As a child, I woke in the middle of the night to see an elderly man standing silently at the foot of my bed. When I looked again...He was still there. In this deeply personal episode of Beyond Haunted UK, I revisit one of the earliest paranormal experiences of my life. Was it a genuine encounter, a hypnopompic hallucination, or something that still defies explanation? Ghosts of the Titanic: Museum or Grave?

More than one thousand, five hundred people died when the Titanic sank in the early hours of April 15th, 1912. Most of them are still down there - two and a half miles below the surface of the North Atlantic. It's easy to talk about the wreck as a mystery, a museum piece, even a haunted house story. It's harder to talk about it as what it actually is: a grave. In this episode of Beyond Haunted UK, we start with the ghost stories that get attached to the Titanic's name - reported hauntings tied to salvaged fittings from her sister ship, the Olympic, now sitting in hotels and pubs across Britain. But the Titanic herself was never salvaged. Nothing came home. Which raises an uncomfortable question: if a staircase built from her sister ship is called haunted, what does that mean for the one that actually holds the dead? From there, we step into darker, less comfortable territory: the decades-long legal and ethical battle over whether the wreck should be salvaged for artifacts and profit, or left undisturbed as a memorial — a debate reignited by the 2023 Titan submersible tragedy just yards from the wreck itself. This episode looks at history, grief, belief, and the uncomfortable question of who gets to decide what happens to the dead. The Hand of Glory: Britains Darkest Folklore Secret

In this episode of Beyond Haunted UK, Jamie explores one of the darkest and most unsettling objects in British folklore - the Hand of Glory. For centuries, thieves were said to carry a candle made from the severed hand of a hanged man into homes in the dead of night. Every sleeping person inside would be rendered completely helpless unable to wake, unable to move, unable to call out for as long as the flame burned. But this is more than a folk legend. A real, preserved Hand of Glory exists to this day, hidden for decades inside the wall of a cottage in North Yorkshire before being discovered in 1935. It still sits in Whitby Museum today. This episode traces the origins of the legend, the historical accounts of its use in real crimes, and the deeper question of what it tells us about the people who believed in it — and why that belief mattered. Rather than dismissing the legend as superstition, the episode reflects on what folklore reveals about fear, death, and the human need to make sense of a dangerous world. Topics include: Hand of Glory, British folklore, Whitby Museum, gallows history, folk magic, mandrake, paranormal history, dark history UK, and unexplained objects.
