    Burnham’s War On The Greens Is Turning Into Political Suicide

    Right, so Andy Burnham as you are I’m sure aware to some degree or other, decided to start a punch-up with the Greens for daring to become anti-Zionist, ostensibly for the sake of Israel, because how else are we meant to read a bust up over another party passing a progressive vote calling out the ethnic cleansing and genocide Zionism in practice has created, when Labour still cannot even call the matter genocide to begin with. And all of course while apparently forgetting that so many Labour run councils are only Labour run because of deals made with the Greens to share power, or secure the administration in some other way, case by case, or in exchange to some policy getting taken on, we know that deals like this lead to the running of the Council post-election when it’s a close run finish. But the fallout from this for Burnham has now reached from councils across the country to the inner workings of Downing Street itself it seems, all the way into his national security adviser’s living room. You see the journalist and author, Sarah Helm, who just happens to be married to Jonathan Powell, the national security adviser in question, has piped up in support of Palestine Action, and now the Met is taking a look at at her social media, presumably to see if she’s plotting the downfall of the state from her kitchen table. Th wife of the national security adviser to the Prime Minister folks, I reiterate. That’s a bit closer to Number 10 than your average Green councillor’s late-night Facebook posting, isn’t it? On Thursday, Labour gave its Green council partners an ultimatum: denounce your party’s 'Zionism is racism' motion or watch your precious deals with us go up in smoke. By Friday, Sheffield’s Greens had politely told them to jog on, offering to keep working together for the good of Sheffield anyway. Now Labour gets to choose between following through on its big scary threat or making life even more miserable for its own councillors. Decisions, decisions. Brilliant strategy: threaten your partners, then remember you actually need their votes to keep your own administration running. But Israel First isn’t it?

    Burnham's Green Threat Leaves His Own Side With A MASSIVE New Problem

    Right, so Andy Burnham has threatened to stop working with the Greens, and Labour councillors are now being asked to risk the partnerships helping them run their own councils, all it seems, in the interests of the state of Israel as a result. In Sheffield, the Labour leader has already sent the ultimatum to their Green partners. Reject your party’s position on Zionism, or this arrangement ends. It’s quite a thing to announce when you’ll still need somebody’s votes to get your agendas passed though isn’t it? But I guess next to the interests of Zionism, next to the interests of Israel, that’s secondary. Israel first, it’s like Starmer never left. All of this obviously began with the Greens’ conference vote declaring Zionism racism. Burnham condemned it and ruled out partnership with the Greens while the policy remained. Then, the following day, Labour chair Bridget Phillipson took that position into local government. Local Greens must publicly reject the policy and urge their national leadership to reconsider, or Labour withdraws from any working arrangements with the Greens. Change your policy at our demands or else. Balls to the will of your members. Well, we know Labour says balls to theirs, but the Greens being member led, means the leadership cannot do that even if so inclined. Now picture being a Labour councillor who spent weeks negotiating an agreement after the local elections. The Greens peeled away a metric ton of Labour’s seats. You’ve settled your disagreements, agreed priorities and started getting things done. Along comes your national party with a new condition, concerning a conference vote your local partners cannot reverse. And yet if they refuse? You get to work out who’ll support the administration instead. Negotiations reopening at local level across the country all over again!

    Israel's Drone Woes Get Hilariously Worse - This Time It's Jordan

    Right, so Jordanian border guards have been intercepting drug shipments flown in from Israel by drones and balloons. And alongside the seized cargo comes a complaint that’s rather awkward for Netanyahu: Jordanian military sources say Israel is telling the world about smuggling across this border, but only the half where Israel gets to be the victim. You know the familiar story by know I am sure. Weapons coming from Jordan. Israeli forces intercept them. Another warning about dangerous neighbours, another argument for more troops and a bigger barrier. We’re the victims, why does everybody hate us? Except the guards on the other side have been catching things too. Narcotics coming towards Jordan from Israeli territory. Which rather spoils the impression that criminality queues politely on the Jordanian side, waiting to threaten Israel every waking hour. According to the Jordanian sources quoted in the investigation, these have been repeated attempts over recent months. And Jordan’s interior minister, Mazen al-Faraya, had already spoken publicly about increasing drone trafficking from Israel before this week’s reporting appeared. So this needs rather more of an answer than just pointing at the border fence and huffing, because the parcels are one problem. The gangs sending them are another. Jordan can bring down an aircraft, recover its cargo and stop that delivery. But what happens to the people who prepared it on the Israeli side? Are they being investigated? Are the launches being disrupted? Or does Jordan get to catch the shipment and then listen to another lecture about its responsibilities?

    Norway Dumps Israeli Banks - Smotrich's Settlements Pay The Price

    Right, so Norway finally put some of its money where its objections were. Its sovereign wealth fund dumped Caterpillar and banking entities linked to Israel’s illegal settlements, deciding that these were investments it could no longer justify. Gee, I wonder what took you so long? Well, Norges Bank announced that on 25 August last year, so why is it back in the news now then? Well, what deserves attention now is why those companies were excluded, because that takes us considerably closer to Netanyahu than the headline about Norwegian investments might suggest. Think about what normally attracts attention when an illegal settlement expands for instance. There’s the minister announcing it, the construction crews arriving, perhaps footage of Palestinians being prevented from reaching their land. The argument centres on what Israel is building and who suffers as a result. Meanwhile, somebody is arranging the finance. A contractor needs money before there’s a completed property to sell. Buyers paying deposits want guarantees. Behind the buildings are financial services helping the development happen, and Norway’s ethics investigators have examined the banks providing them. Suddenly, the bank’s role becomes a little harder to describe as ordinary business. Especially when the government promoting that construction is quite open about what it wants to achieve. Which brings us to Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s finance minister, standing at a press conference last year to very much promote settlement expansion. He could hardly complain that outsiders were dragging politics into a housing development could he, when he went there first. He was there to explain its political purpose himself, which is an unusually helpful contribution from a man whose idea of diplomacy usually involves finding someone else’s land to start building on.

    Burnham's Zionism Balls Up: Polanski Handed An Opening

    Right, so Andy Burnham has taken to PMQ’s, having been teed up ever so kindly by Tory MP Harriet Baldwin, the Uniparty exposing itself yet again, at the at the Green party’s Zionism Is Racism motion and slapped the antisemitism label on it like a warning sticker on a dodgy microwave. The motion defines Zionism as an ethnonationalist project propped up by excluding or dominating Palestinians, and ditches the party's two-state bedtime story for the radical notion of one democratic state shared by all. Bold move from a man whose party's Gaza record is about as clean as a festival portaloo after a typical British summer – not this year’s obviously – has had its wicked way with it. Well, the Greens' Jewish leader Zack Polanski, speaking for a great many of us who aren’t inclined to take such hypocrisy on the chin, hurled the accusation right back at Labour, because let’s face it, there’s no shortage of places for it to stick. Harriett Baldwin must have been beside herself with glee. Toss a Labour prime minister the chance to smack the party to his left, and he lunges for it like it's the last sausage roll at a funeral buffet. Eager service for the establishment once more in the House of Commons, to nobody’s surprise whatsoever

    Israel’s Drone Woes Worsen As Hezbollah Get Handed Fresh Ammunition

    Right, so Israel’s deranged Minister of Defence, Israel Katz, has at last conceived a cunning plan to deal with Hezbollah’s pesky fibre-optic drones and it really is a stroke of genius, providing your level of genius is somewhere around the same level as a certain orange US President. He’s announced a six-month ban on the use of fibre-optic and cellular-phone-guided aerial vehicles in Israeli airspace! Hooray, that’ll show em! Itt will be signed on Sunday if a non-wired pen can be found, and, after months of being thwarted in every way you can fathom by Hezbollah's flying toys, Israeli soil will surely be safe! After spending billions of shekels on all manner of high-tech military hardware, and after trying everything from snipers to fishing nets, the final plan is to stick a finger in the air and wave it about a bit along the border. I mean, I’m sure Hezbollah will definitely respect their borders right, at least as much as Israel themselves do of course… And I thought this was peak desperation when I first covered this story several months ago: fishing nets versus drones, the battle of the Titans. But honestly, if the net actually catches something, it has already achieved more than most ministerial press conferences ever have. The people underneath don’t want another rousing speech while they hide under a glorified laundry hamper; they want to be safe, not to face another round of government deception. But the comedy really begins when we leave the net's magic circle. Munitions do not rain from heaven, and cars do not come out of thin air. To sustain life in southern Lebanon, you need more than lying under a net and waiting for some politician to come up and declare victory for you. The fibre-optic cable caused such difficulties because it was to be expected. In a flying machine of this type, a thin glass cable which transmits the image and the orders that control the movements unrolls itself as it flies. These things carry literal kilometres of the stuff.

    Saudi Arabia Crackdown Takes A Turn - MBS Gets A Powerful Reminder

    Right, so in a tantrum worthy of a toddler denied their pudding because they haven’t eaten their tea, Saudi Arabia has begun to arrest American citizens for the unforgivable crime of having taken a few photos during the recent Ansarallah attacks on King Khalid International Airport. The crackdown is now written into an official US security warning no less, which is not exactly the TripAdvisor recommendation Mohammed Bin Salman was hoping for either, but hey, who’s in charge here right? Riyadh airport has been hit and flights disrupted, putting the gateway to the Saudi capital at risk. Delta have as a consequence of that, pushed its much-publicised Atlanta-to-Riyadh launch back to March of next year, citing regional developments and passenger and staff safety. And now an administrative building at Aramco’s headquarters has been struck too. So for MBS, who wants Saudi Arabia seen as somewhere to visit and do business, that’s a problem reaching well beyond a few embarrassing photographs and now his side are going around threatening people on top of that. MBS's army of public relations workers will not be able to put a gloss on this disgrace in the Visit Saudi brochures, whatever MBS and his cronies may try, will they? His thugs can confiscate phones, and throw tourists in prison if they take a picture, but they can’t make the missiles stop, or muzzle foreign governments from advising their citizens, or bully an airline into following his whims. He’s made this mess for himself making a bigger and bigger hole for himself and now it seems the solution he’s reached for involves grabbing a shovel to keep on digging. The crackdown was supposed to bury bad news under the carpet, but it only makes the country's mistreatment of its foreign guests front-page news, while the chaos has moved from the airport's baggage claim area to the company's boardroom. With this much farce on show, you’d think Donald Trump was in charge here wouldn’t you?

    Iran Raises the Stakes on Trump - $2T Price Placed on Next Targets

    Right, so Donald Trump has been taking credit for helping American technology companies expand into the Gulf. Big investments. AI partnerships. Another opportunity to tell everyone what a marvellous businessman he is. Now Iran has threatened American-linked interests there which its security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, values at more than two trillion dollars. Attack Iran again, he warns, and those interests could become targets. The valuation is his, unverified, but likely not far off all things considered, we’re talking AI data centres here, fibre optic cables, all manner of other infrastructure thrown into the bargain too, because this warning reaches way beyond just the ongoing issues surrounding oil, into the technology business Trump has just been patting himself on the back over. Which leaves the tech companies involved with a rather awkward question. They’ve been encouraged to commit to the region for years. Can the president who helped promote those opportunities also pursue a military confrontation without putting their business in danger? Yes, well, we’ve seen how well it’s been working out for him so far haven’t we? Trump gets his bit of of applause and moves on. The companies have to stay, after all, they have equipment to install, staff to employ and customers who expect the service to work regardless of what the White House has announced that morning. “Donald said it was a great deal” but that won’t get an application running again will it? Though I’m sure he’d be delighted to repeat how wonderful he is all over again while somebody else sorts out the damage.
