Louis Puentedura PT, DPT, PhD, a respected leader in physical therapy, shares the remarkable journey that shaped his career—from childhood experiences with health care to decades of teaching, research, and clinical practice. His story offers a fascinating look at how physical therapy has evolved over the years—and, more importantly, what it takes to keep learning, growing, and staying passionate about the profession. Emilio “Louie” Puentedura, PT, DPT, PhD, is a recently retired Professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Baylor University. He completed his entry-level physical therapy training in 1980 and a Graduate Diploma in Manipulative Therapy in 1983 in Melbourne, Australia, followed by a post-professional DPT at Northern Arizona University and a PhD from Nova Southeastern University. After almost 3 decades in spine care practice in Australia and Arizona, and 10 years on faculty at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, he joined Baylor as a full professor and completed 9 years there before retiring in May of 2026. Dr. Puentedura has published over 120 scientific papers and is a two-time recipient of the Rose Excellence in Research Award from the APTA Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, as well as the John Medeiros Award from the Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy. Alex Brownlow serves as the Head Physical Therapist for Penn State Football, providing comprehensive evaluation, rehabilitation, and return to play support for student athletes. Alex’s experiences include working with professional, collegiate, and high school athletes. Prior to Penn State Alex served as Head Physical Therapist for Long Island University Football. A Phoenix native, he earned bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Exercise Science from Arizona State University before completing his Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree at Northern Arizona University in 2017. Prior to PT school, Naveed spent eight years as a performance coach specializing in combat and strength sports. Upon graduation, he established the first Emergency Department Physical Therapy program at Banner University Medical Center where he practiced for 5 years. He later served as the Performance Physical Therapy Manager at Exos Headquarters in Phoenix, where he combined performance training, sports medicine, and rehabilitation to deliver individualized care rooted in a philosophy of service, continuous growth, and meaningful human connection. Naveed currently serves as a Senior Physical Therapist with the OKC Thunder. Beyond his clinical practice, Naveed has participated in medical missions throughout Mexico, Lebanon, and Central America, providing care and education in underserved communities. Dr. Robert Manske PT, DPT, MPT, MEd, SCS, ATC, CSCS shares his clinical journey and the lessons learned in 30 plus years of practice. Mr. Robert C. Manske PT, DPT, MPT, MEd, SCS, ATC, CSCS, FAPTA, is a professor and former chair in the Doctoral Physical Therapy Program at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. Rob graduated from WSU in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education, a Master of Physical Therapy degree in 1994, and further earned a Master of Education degree in Physical Education in 2000. Rob completed a year- long sports physical therapy fellowship in 1997 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, WI. He received his DPT from Massachusetts General Institute of Health Professions in 2006. Rob has been an APTA Board Certified Sports Physical Therapist since 2002. Rob is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) through the National Athletic Trainers Association. Rob has been nominated and received numerous awards for excellence in teaching at the local, state, and national level – receiving the APTA prestigious Catherine Worthingham Award in 2024, the Sports Academy’s Turner A. Blackburn Hall of Fame Award in 2021, the Sports Academy’s Ron Peyton Award in 2018, and the Sports Academy’s Excellence in Education Award in 2007. He was a 3 term Executive Committee member for the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapists serving presently as the Representative at Large as well as two prior terms as Vice President. To date Rob has edited/published 12 books, multiple book chapters, and over 100 articles and home study courses related to orthopedic and sports rehabilitation. Rob is an editor for both the “International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy” and “Journal of Sports Rehabilitation” and is also currently a manuscript reviewer for The Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy, Athletic Training and Sports Health Care, Sports Health a Multidisciplinary Approach, Physical Therapy in Sports, and The American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM), and in the years 2005-2007, 2011-2020 was named a Principal Reviewer for AJSM. Rob has lectured at the state and national and international level during meetings for APTA, NATA and the NSCA, and has instructed approximately 10-12 courses per year on knee and shoulder rehabilitation. In addition to his full-time faculty appointment, Rob is a physical therapist and athletic trainer for Ascension Via Christi Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy and serves as a Teaching Associate at the University of Kansas Medical Center Department of Rehabilitation Sciences in Kansas City, and the Department of Community Medicine for the Via Christi Family Practice Sports Medicine Residency Program. Most importantly Rob continues to practice weekly – spending approximately 8 hours per week treating a variety of shoulder, elbow, and knee conditions! His specialty is treating the athlete from recreational to professional.
