How to Be a Godly Man | Brad Straarup

Adam was standing right there. ‍ When the serpent showed up in the Garden, Adam wasn't off somewhere else. Scripture says he was with her and he said nothing. A lot of what men carry today traces back to a man who went silent when it was his job to speak. ‍ In Week 2 of our series, It's Complicated, Brad talks directly to the men — and gives the women a biblical standard to look for. ‍ Before Eve was ever in the picture, God gave Adam a work to produce, a place to protect, and a Word to preserve. Before a companion, he got a commandment. Before a woman, he got a Word. ‍ Then sin distorted the design. Brad walks through the four traps Adam fell into that men still fall into today: he was silent, he hid, he blamed, and he struggled with work. And that last one cuts both ways — the workaholic and the man on the couch are not two different problems. They're the same curse with two different symptoms. ‍ If you're hiding something... the browser history, the second account, the debt she doesn't know about, the pornography no one is naming — this message calls it into the light. ‍ But we don't have to follow our great-great-great-grandfather Adam. We can follow the second Adam. Adam was silent; Jesus spoke. Adam hid; Jesus stepped out. Adam blamed his bride; Jesus took the blame for His. ‍ Men, you're not in a waiting room. You're in a weight room. God is forming you. ‍ Manhood begins when you stop waiting for somebody else to take responsibility. Only God Knows (Girls Night) | Paige Straarup

What if the people who know the most about you don't actually know you at all? You can be seen by every single person in the room and still not be known by one of them. A lot of us have gotten really good at being known ABOUT — the highlight reel, the put-together Sunday version — while nobody actually knows what we're carrying this week. In this message from our very first Girls Night — a special night set apart from our normal weekend series, just for the women of our church and our city — Paige opens up Genesis 16 and the story of Hagar: a runaway, a slave, a pregnant woman nobody was looking for. Alone in the desert and sure no one saw her, she becomes the only person in the whole Bible to give God a name — El Roi, "the God who sees me." But there are two women hiding in this chapter. Hagar is empty and alone in the wilderness. Sarai is empty surrounded by everything she ever wanted — the husband, the wealth, the promise of God — and still lying awake with an ache she'd feel guilty naming out loud. One ran to the desert where nobody could find her. One buried herself in a full, busy, blessed life where nobody could reach her. And El Roi sees them both. Three things Hagar's story shows us: - You are already seen — not when you get it together, but right now, in the hiding. - God sees you… now let Him in — coming out of hiding with God is the safe one. He already saw, and He already stayed. - There's a healing waiting on the other side of being known — first with God, and then with the people He's placed right next to you (James 5:16). If "I'm fine" became the only answer you know how to give — if you're the strong friend, the one everyone calls, the one who holds it all together — this one is for you. It's okay to not be okay. It's just not okay to stay there. Known by everybody. Known by nobody. Today can be the day that changes. The Presence of the Holy Spirit | Brad Straarup

You can leave a church service knowing more about the Holy Spirit than you've ever known in your life… and not be one inch closer to Him. For three weeks we talked about the Holy Spirit—who He is, what He does, what He gives. This message is different. It's about being with Him. Many Christians love God, love Jesus, and are on their way to heaven, but have never truly experienced the Holy Spirit. Often that's not a Bible problem—it's that our view of Him is built on one strange experience we had, or one we saw on TV. So He gets a bad rap, and we keep our distance. In this message from our Holy Spirit series, Brad goes back to the actual words Scripture uses—Rûwach in Hebrew, Pneuma in Greek—and both carry the same picture: wind, breath, a blast of air. From the second verse of the Bible, the Spirit of God is the breath of God hovering over the waters. Using four things we already understand about wind, Brad shows how to relate to the person of the Holy Spirit: 🌬️ Wind is UNSEEN — you may not see Him, but you can feel Him.  🌬️ Wind is UNPREDICTABLE — He won't be tucked into our systems; worship Him, not the method.  🌬️ Wind is POWERFUL — He brings power for the things human strength can't fix.  🌬️ Wind is REFRESHING — He wants to breathe fresh air back into your marriage, your job, and your walk with God. If your faith feels stale—everything's "fine," but nothing feels alive—this is an invitation to take a deep breath and receive Him. Let go of your fears and misperceptions, go all in, and develop a real friendship with the Holy Spirit. God the Father loves you. God the Son saves you. God the Spirit is with you. Some of you are a sail with no wind. He's ready to fill it.
