    Here Jesus's Word

What does it mean to really listen to Jesus? In Luke 8:1-21, Jesus tells a crowd the parable of the sower, the lamp, and who his true family is, and he warns, "Take care then how you hear." It's possible to sit close to Jesus, come to church, and serve without ever actually listening to him. This sermon walks through three marks of a disciple who hears Jesus's word. First, we hold on to it instead of being uninterested, shallow, or distracted. Second, we pay attention to it and let it shine through us. Third, we obey it as part of the new family Jesus creates. Wherever you are, the call is the same: run to Jesus, the only gardener who can turn hard hearts into good soil.

    Extravagant Love

Why did a sinful woman show extravagant love for Jesus while a respected Pharisee remained reserved and critical? In Luke 7:36–50, Jesus tells a story about two debtors to reveal the difference: those who understand how desperately they need forgiveness respond with deep love for the One who forgives them. This passage reminds us that we are all debtors who cannot pay—and points us to the extraordinary grace of Jesus, who forgives sinners who come to Him in faith.

    Can Christians Have Doubts?

What should Christians do when they struggle with doubt? In Luke 7:18–35, even John the Baptist finds himself asking Jesus, “Are you the one who is to come?” Jesus doesn't condemn John for his questions, nor does He immediately change John's difficult circumstances. Instead, He points John back to the evidence of His works and the truth of God's Word. In this sermon, we see that believers sometimes doubt, Jesus gives us reason to believe, and doubt is not the same as unbelief. When our circumstances make us question what we believe, we can bring our doubts to Jesus and rehearse what we know to be true.

    Does Jesus Really Care?

In Luke 7:1–17, two remarkable encounters reveal both the power and compassion of Jesus. A Roman centurion trusts that Jesus has the authority to heal simply by speaking a word, while a grieving widow receives compassion she never even asked for when Jesus raises her son from the dead. Together, these stories answer two questions we all ask in times of need: Can Jesus help me, and does He care? The answer to both is yes. Our security does not depend on the strength of our faith, but on the strength of the Savior in whom our faith rests. And His compassion points beyond temporary relief to His ultimate victory over sin and death. Put your faith in a powerful Savior and rest in His compassion.

    The Gospel in Action

The gospel doesn’t merely change what we believe—it changes how we live. As Jesus concludes His sermon in Luke 6, He shows us what a life transformed by God’s mercy looks like. Because we have received mercy in Christ, we are called to live with a humble attitude toward others—refusing a condemning spirit, forgiving freely, giving generously, and dealing honestly with our own sin. And we are called to holy action, producing the good fruit that comes from a life built on Jesus Christ. Main Point: The gospel changes our attitude and action. When Jesus is truly our Lord, His grace becomes visible in our lives. And when the storms come, the life built on Christ and His Word will stand firm

Blessed!? - When Having Less Means Having More

Jesus’ words in Luke 6:20–24 turn our normal definition of the “blessed life” upside down. He encourages the poor, hungry, grieving, and rejected while giving a sobering warning to the rich, full, comfortable, and admired. Jesus isn’t teaching that poverty saves or that wealth is sinful; he is warning us not to measure God’s blessing by what we possess right now. Blessed are the needy who look to Christ; woe to those who are satisfied without Him. This message challenges us to recognize our need, find our ultimate satisfaction in Christ, and faithfully steward what God has given us for His kingdom.

    New Life Together

Why did Jesus spend an entire night in prayer before choosing twelve ordinary men to be His apostles? In Luke 6:12–19, Jesus begins forming a new community of people who have been made new by His power and called to live in a radically different way. Just as God delivered Israel, formed them into a people, and taught them how to live, Jesus is gathering a people from every background and inviting ordinary men and women into His extraordinary mission. This message challenges us to depend on God in prayer, find new life in Christ, embrace our place in His church, and join Jesus in His continuing work of building His people throughout the world.
