    The Cage Was Too Small: Richard Blank on Following a Childhood Pull to Costa Rica

    Send us Fan Mail Richard Blank moved abroad at 27 from Philadelphia and started a company from scratch in Costa Rica. He has been Chief Executive Officer of Costa Rica's Call Center since 2008 and, through what he calls old school grit, grew to 150 employees and trained more than 10,000 telemarketers over twenty-five years. He endows a scholarship each year at Abington Senior High School for students who plan to major in a world language at the university level. Following a Generation X childhood dream, he built the largest collection of restored American pinball machines and antique jukeboxes in Costa Rica. In this episode, Richard and Heather talk about a story that goes beyond the usual spiritual topics and is full of intuition. Richard shares how a childhood pull toward the Spanish language grew into a life in Costa Rica, why he calls his fluency a lifeline, and what it meant to leave the life he was expected to have. He talks about leading with dignity and why he put pinball machines and jukeboxes in his office. They also talk about sacred places, including what Richard felt in Taos, New Mexico, and at the pyramids of Tikal in Guatemala, and how learning a second language keeps you present.
