🎙️ Journeys to Wellbeing: Episode 22

When you’re at the end of your life, how will you answer these questions… ·      did you have a good time? ·      did you follow what called to you? ·      or will there be too many should haves? In this episode, I’m joined by Susan O’Shea from Clonmel, a meditation and yoga teacher, a Reiki practitioner, and someone whose life journey beautifully reflects courage, curiosity, and continual reinvention. Susan shares her deeply human, non-linear path — from working in kitchens, retail, hairdressing, and running her own bakery, to discovering running, Reiki, yoga, meditation, and later stepping onto a fitness model stage at the age of 48. Together, we explore what it means to listen to inner nudges, face self-doubt, and keep saying yes to growth — even when fear or comparison shows up. This is a heartfelt conversation about identity, resilience, and learning to stay in your own lane — both literally and metaphorically. 🌿 We Talk About: 🌿 Growing up working from a young age and following curiosity rather than a single “career path” 🌿 Opening and closing a bakery — and redefining failure and success 🌿 Motherhood, work, and carrying the mental load quietly in the background 🌿 Discovering running later in life — from lamppost-to-lamppost to completing a marathon 🌿 Reiki, yoga teacher training, and how the fear of being judged and self-doubt can keep dreams “under the rug” 🌿 Entering a fitness model competition at 48 🌿 Finding meditation, finding yourself and reclaiming confidence 🌿 Learning to stop comparing, trust your own pace, and stay in your lane Susan also shares about beginning a new meditation class at Lavish Wellness in Clonmel starting on 17th February, designed especially for people who feel they “can’t meditate” — offering a gentle, welcoming introduction to stillness, presence, and self-trust. 🔗 Connect with Susan: Instagram: @lavishbeauty.ie  or @susanleona Lavish Wellness: (052) 6189899 🎧 Watch or listen: Watch video version on Patreon  or listen on podcast platforms, Apple & Spotify 🌐 Connect with me: Learn more about my work, events, and offerings at www.eilisogrady.ie Follow me on Instagram @eilisogrady for mindfulness, yoga, and coaching inspiration. 💞 Support the podcast: If you enjoy these conversations, please subscribe, share, and leave a review — it helps more people discover these Journeys to Wellbeing. 💫 Join my Patreon community for exclusive mindfulness practices, yoga classes, journaling prompts, podcast videos, discounts on coaching and courses and other content to support your health and wellbeing. 👉 www.patreon.com/eilisogrady ❤️ The content in this podcast is shared for general information and inspiration only. 🎙️Journeys to Wellbeing: Episode 21

Working with Thoughts: A Mindful Way to Relate to Thinking In this solo episode, Eilís shares a teaching from her newly released introductory mindfulness course, focusing on one of the most challenging aspects of practice: our relationship with thoughts. Drawing on mindfulness-based frameworks, neuroscience, and compassionate awareness, this episode explores why the mind thinks the way it does — and how we can learn to work with thinking rather than be overwhelmed by it. This episode can be listened to as a standalone reflection or as an introduction to Eilís’ wider introduction to mindfulness self led course. In this episode... Why thoughts are often the most challenging part of mindfulness practice The S.I.T.E. framework: sensations, impulses, thoughts and emotions What “mental noting” / 'labelling" is and how it helps create space from thinking Why mind-wandering is not a failure — but the practice itself How thoughts filter reality and shape our emotions and reactions The role of neuroplasticity in changing habitual patterns Common myths about mindfulness Why kindness is the foundation of any mindfulness practice Explore further... 🎧 Full Introductory Mindfulness Course (Audio + Video): Available on Udemy 🎧 Audio-only version: Available on Insight Timer 🌿 Weekly live sessions, reflections & community: Join Eilís on Patreon 🤍 1:1 Mindfulness & Life Coaching: Work privately with Eilís online About the host... Eilís O’Grady is a mindfulness and yoga teacher, life coach, author, and host of the Journeys to Wellbeing podcast. 🎙️Journeys to Wellbeing: Episode 20

“What is the thing that you've done in the last couple of years that has had the biggest return on investment for you?” In this episode of Journeys to Wellbeing, I’m joined by Rachael Shorten, a life and wellness coach who supports people in finding clarity, balance, confidence, and a deeper sense of agency — especially during times of change. Rachael, who is a mum of three and has a busy career in financial services, shares her own journey to discovering the transformational power of coaching as a space for reflection, growth, and meaningful change. Together, we explore what coaching really is (and what it isn’t), how mindset shapes the way we experience life, and the small steps that can help us move forward when we feel stuck. 🌿 We Talk About: 🌿 Rachael’s path into coaching — and the moment she knew she was “home” 🌿 The mindset shift that changes everything: clarity comes from action 🌿 Common themes clients bring to coaching, including people-pleasing and burnout 🌿 Boundaries, self-responsibility, and reclaiming your time and energy 🌿 Practical wellbeing foundations: sleep, movement, and flexible routines 🌿 The power of self-talk, and how thoughts shape feelings and behaviour 🌿 Coaching as a supportive space to reconnect with yourself, your values, and what matters most 🌿 Rachael’s interest in training as a breathwork facilitator and the mind–body connection 🌿 Why investing in yourself often gives the highest return on investment Rachael brings a grounded, compassionate approach to coaching and shares powerful insights around moving from fixed thinking into possibility — reminding us that we don’t need the full plan in order to begin. Often, the smallest step is the one that changes everything. She also shares how her own wellbeing practices — especially sleep, exercise, gratitude, and flexibility — help her stay resourced and present, both for her clients and her family. 🔗 Connect with Rachael Instagram: @rachaelshortenlifecoach 🎧 Listen & Watch Watch video version on Patreon  or listen on podcast platforms, Apple & Spotify 🌐 Connect with Me Learn more about my work, events, and offerings at www.eilisogrady.ie Follow me on Instagram @eilisogrady for mindfulness, yoga, and coaching inspiration. 💞 Support the Podcast If you enjoy these conversations, please subscribe, share, and leave a review — it helps more people discover these Journeys to Wellbeing. 🎙️Journeys to Wellbeing: Episode 18

“All addiction has one objective — to soothe emotion.” - Karl Anthony In this episode, I’m joined by Karl Anthony, owner of Irish Hypnosis and Director of the Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy Ireland. Hypnosis is a field I’ve been curious about and didn’t know a huge amount about, so I invited Karl on to help me understand what hypnosis really is, how it works, and how it can support emotional wellbeing. In this honest and wide-ranging conversation, Karl shares his personal journey into hypnosis, his trauma-informed approach to addiction and emotional healing, and why compassion — not shame — is essential when it comes to mental health and recovery. We Talk About: 🌿 Karl’s personal story and how early trauma shaped his path into hypnosis 🌿 What hypnosis actually is — and common myths and misunderstandings 🌿 Trauma, emotional pain, and why “everyone has trauma” 🌿 Addiction as an attempt to soothe emotion rather than a moral failing 🌿 The subconscious mind, early childhood “blueprints,” and repeating patterns 🌿 How hypnotherapy can support a range of symptoms such as anxiety, panic, addiction, IBS and emotional healing etc. Karl speaks openly about his work helping people with trauma, addiction, and anxiety, and shares insights from over 25 years of clinical experience. He offers a deeply compassionate reframe of addiction and mental health, reminding us that people are not broken — they are often hurt and seeking relief from emotional pain.  🔗 Connect with Karl Facebook: 👉 https://www.facebook.com/karl.anthony.522 TikTok: 👉 https://www.tiktok.com/@thekarlanthonymethod Websites: 👉 https://www.irishhypnosis.ie 👉 http://ichireland.ie 📱 WhatsApp / Messenger: Karl can be contacted directly on 086 890 9541  🎧 Listen & Watch 🎥 Watch video version on Patreon  🎧 Or listen on podcast platforms, Apple & Spotify 🌐 Connect with Me Learn more about my work, events, and offerings at www.eilisogrady.ie Follow me on Instagram @eilisogrady for mindfulness, yoga, and coaching inspiration. 💞 Support the Podcast If you enjoy these conversations, please subscribe, share, and leave a review — it helps more people discover these Journeys to Wellbeing.
