    Unrelenting Exhibit at the Museum of the Cherokee People The Museum of the Cherokee People in Cherokee continues its major exhibit Unrelenting: Cherokee People and the American Revolution through December 30. The show pairs historic objects with new works by Eastern Band and Cherokee Nation artists, centering Native perspectives on the 250th anniversary and the Cherokee American War era.     McCaysville Flood Recovery Continues Cleanup is still moving forward in McCaysville after the weekend flash flooding. Blue Ridge Drive has reopened to traffic, but a boil-water advisory remains in effect while crews work to restore the water system. First responders from neighboring North Carolina and Tennessee departments helped with rescues during the storm. Back to School Bash Coming to Murphy Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 15. The Back to School Bash at Konehete Park will offer free school supplies. The event is organized by NC Cooperative Extension, Cherokee County DSS, Vaya Health, and Reach of Cherokee County. Cherokee Singers Gathering Tonight The Cherokee Singers Gathering takes place this evening at the Yellowhill Activity Center. Enrolled members and families are invited to join for social dances and singing. Stecoah Stories & Seeds Series Continues The Stecoah Stories and Seeds Speaker Series continues Wednesday at the Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center in Robbinsville. The program keeps local storytelling and mountain knowledge alive. Childbirth Classes Available This Week Cherokee Choices is offering childbirth classes for expecting parents this week. The date gives families and local employers a clear runway into the fall season.     Storm damage and trail caution in Nantahala Severe storms on Tuesday left structure damage in Peachtree and near Andrews, along with downed trees, power lines, and widespread outages. The U.S. Forest Service is assessing roads and trails across Nantahala National Forest, particularly in Graham and Swain counties. Hikers and drivers should use extra caution this weekend and watch for hazards. On July 24, officers recovered more than a pound during a traffic stop in Gilmer County, Georgia. Harold Wayne Wolfenbarger faces multiple drug-related charges and is held without bond. An earlier related seizure in Cherokee County added to the total. All individuals named are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Blue Ridge Mountain EMC recorded about 7,200 customers without power at the peak across its service area that includes Cherokee, Clay, Fannin, and Union counties. No injuries were reported.
