Trusting God When Everything Falls Apart (Recorded the Day It Happened) | Voice Notes

My Bible was open to Philippians 4 when the message came in. Effective immediately, the majority of my contract work is on pause, and most of my side income with it. So I hit record with my journal still open, and you get to hear what trusting God when everything falls apart sounds like in real time. I'm not on the other side of this one. I don't know how the numbers are going to work. What I do know is the passage I was reading when it hit: "I can do all things through him who strengthens me" comes right after Paul talks about having little and having plenty, being well fed and going hungry. That's the secret he learned. And I'm getting to practice it again. We get into what happens when God's definition of good looks nothing like ours, why His provision has sometimes looked like Him clearing space in my life, and why trusting Him doesn't mean pretending this doesn't really freaking suck. If you're carrying a diagnosis, a job loss, struggles in a relationship or the weight of everything on your plate, and you keep downplaying it because someone else has it worse, you're welcome here. Jesus doesn't make you qualify it first. How did the disciples grieve without missing the resurrection? What does cat eye nail polish have to do with hardship? And where was God working in the losses you haven't looked back at yet? Got a story of God showing up in something that looked like a loss at the time? I'd love to hear it. Email me at rachel@rachelgrit.com, anonymously or with your name on it. If time with Jesus keeps losing to the noise, you're not failing at faith. You're doing faith with chaotic or even ADHD brain, in a world built for neurotypicals. One Hour to Quiet the Noise is a free guided journal. You'll find what's actually draining you, and walk away with one teeny tiny plan to clear it. One hour. That's the whole ask. Get the free Noise Journal

Bite-sized Biblecast | What If God's Approval Is an Idol? | Romans 8:9-17

I sat down with Romans 8 this morning and got my stuff completely rocked. I'm a recovering people pleaser. So is half of my audience, if I had to guess. And while I was sitting with verses 9 through 17, something occurred to me that I have not been able to put down since. What if God's approval was an idol? I know how that sounds. How could trying to please God be an idol? But what if the thing we're actually chasing is the FEELING of being approved of, the feeling of being good enough - and not genuine connection with Him at all? Then I did some listening prayer and asked Him where I'm holding back. He said: your fear of rejection reaches even to me. You don't feel fully safe even with me. Let me heal you. Whew. What if releasing the need to do it right isn't taking the easy way out? What if it's refusing to give God less than He deserves? And why did it take me 2 weeks to pick my prayer journal back up? Reading from the NRSVUE. Takeaways: - Your flesh doesn't get to define you, and that includes the parts of an ADHD brain you've been apologizing for - Actions show the priorities of the heart, so it's worth asking what chasing approval actually reveals - Seeking the feeling of approval can quietly lower God to the level of every other person whose approval you've chased - You cannot attain His approval by performing, and you already have it - Hard truth and ridiculous grace sit together in this passage, the same way they sit together in the whole faith - If you want to read the whole Bible but can't stick to a plan, just highlight what you've read in alternating colors and fill in the gaps Sit with Romans 8:9-17 today. Then ask Him: Jesus, where am I holding back authenticity and connection from you? And if you're looking for the free Noise Journal (lil bundle of upgrades available if you need the extra support, but the guided journal itself is free), you can find that here.

Why I Compulsively Avoid Silence, and What Changed When I Stopped | Voice Notes

I listen to something almost every waking minute. YouTube in the car, a podcast while I cook, the Office every single night to fall asleep. I've done that for years. This week God asked me for intentional silence, and I genuinely did not want to do it. I aimed for an hour a day. Realistically it was more like 30 to 45 minutes, and never all at once. The 30 minute drive home after school dropoff. A 10 minute shower. Cooking dinner. And the first couple of minutes, every single time, were almost physically uncomfortable. Then on the way to the pharmacy I pulled up to a stoplight, noticed the leaves starting to turn, and cracked my window for a little autumn breeze. The peepers filled the car. I never would have rolled that window down if something had been playing. I wouldn't have even thought to. Why does an ADHD brain compulsively avoid silence in the first place? What actually happens to your overall noise level after a week of this? And why is this a teeny tiny action step instead of a whole lifestyle overhaul? Here's the thing about noise canceling headphones in a loud restaurant. The room gets quieter. And you can hear your friend even less. Takeaways: Noise isn't only auditory. For some people it's visual, and the same principle appliesConstant background stimuli pauses the spinning. It doesn't process itThe discomfort is front-loaded. The first couple of minutes are the hard part, not the whole stretchYou don't need to schedule it. Attach it to a task you already do - one drive, one shower, one mealStart at 5 minutes. This is a teeny tiny action step, not a silence practiceYour brain needs a break in order to process. The silence is what lets it defrag If time with Jesus keeps losing to the noise, you're not failing at faith. You're doing faith with chaotic or even ADHD brain, in a world built for neurotypicals. Today, we dive into Revelation 21, exploring the profound hope of a new heaven and a new earth. I know, I know - it sounds like an absolutely feral favorite book to choose, but that's just the kind of kid I was. I share a bit about my journey with my husband’s health challenges, which have made these verses about God wiping every tear from our eyes resonate deeply for me. We discuss the tension between hard truths and the ridiculous grace offered through Christ, emphasizing that our faith is a lifelong journey, not just a momentary experience. Bite-sized Biblecast | The Temptation Trap: What 1 Corinthians 10:13 Really Means

We dive into the heart of 1 Corinthians 10:13, exploring how easily this verse can be misinterpreted and weaponized if we're not careful. I’ve been away for a bit, dealing with some pretty intense life stuff, but I'm back and ready to help us get back into the rhythm of understanding scripture together. This episode is all about recognizing that while God is faithful and won't let us be tested beyond our strength, it’s crucial to understand what that really means. We often cling to the comforting idea that God won’t give us more than we can handle, but the reality is much more nuanced and demands a deeper engagement with our faith. Let’s unpack these ideas and challenge ourselves to confront the uncomfortable truths about how we apply scripture in our lives, especially in the context of cultural Christianity. Takeaways: In moments of testing, remember that God tailors our challenges to our personal strengths and limitations. It's crucial to read scripture in context to avoid misusing verses like First Corinthians 10:13.Cultural Christianity often leads us to excuse our sins by misinterpreting God's grace and mercy.God's grace is not a blanket for our actions, but a call to integrity and self-examination in our faith. We should regularly seek the Holy Spirit's guidance to ensure our understanding of scripture aligns with Christ's teachings.Engaging in self-reflection through journaling can help uncover areas where we misapply biblical principles.
