SPECIAL: Bryan Kohberger Reverses Guilty Plea and Lindsay Clancy Trial Recap

This week on Stop! Who Does That?, Jackie and Jenna are breaking down two major true-crime cases making headlines. First, Bryan Kohberger is back in the news—more than a year after pleading guilty to the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin. Kohberger is now seeking to withdraw that plea, claiming he received bad legal advice and was pressured into accepting the deal that spared him the death penalty. Jackie and Jenna discuss his new allegations, the evidence he says should have been handled differently, and just how difficult - or easy? - it may be to convince a court to let him take back a guilty plea he previously entered under oath. Then, they turn to the ongoing Lindsay Clancy trial, where jurors are hearing deeply emotional and often conflicting testimony about Clancy’s mental state in the months and days before the deaths of her three children. The trial has raised complicated questions about mental illness, criminal responsibility and what Clancy understood at the time of the killings. HOWEVER, the internet and social media are ablaze, seeing something in Lindsay's ex-husband Patrick, that perhaps investigators looked past. Jackie and Jenna break it down for you and try to sift through it all. Two cases. Two defendants. And two legal battles that are far from over. #BryanKohberger #IdahoMurders #LindsayClancy #LindsayClancyTrial #TrueCrime #TrueCrimePodcast #CourtroomDrama #CrimeNews #TrueCrimeCommunity #StopWhoDoesThat Learn more about your ad choices. The Other Lehigh Valley Family Murders: Jeffrey Howorth Killed His Parents Days After the Freemans

Just days after the Freeman brothers murdered their parents in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, another local family was destroyed by an eerily similar crime. On March 2, 1995, George and Susan Howorth returned to their quiet suburban home after work. Police say that before they could even take off their coats, their 16-year-old son, Jeffrey Howorth, opened fire. George was shot five times. Susan was shot nine times. By the time Jeffrey’s older brother arrived home, both parents were dead—and Jeffrey had vanished. Prosecutors argued that the murders were planned: Jeffrey allegedly waited for his parents, left behind a note, fled the state, and carried weapons while attempting to escape. His attorneys argued that he was experiencing a severe psychological breakdown and could not understand the nature or wrongfulness of his actions. In this episode, we examine the murders of George and Susan Howorth, Jeffrey’s flight across the country, the evidence presented at trial, the controversial insanity verdict, and the possibility that he could one day be released. How could two separate cases involving teenage sons killing their parents happen in the same community within less than one week—and was the jury’s verdict the right one? DEEP DIVE - Lindsay Clancy: Mental Illness or Maternal Filicide?

She was a respected labor and delivery nurse, a devoted wife, and a mother of three young children. But on January 24, 2023, an unimaginable tragedy unfolded inside the Clancy family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts home. In this episode, we examine the case of Lindsay Clancy, who is accused of killing her children—five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan—before attempting to take her own life. As Lindsay’s trial approaches, prosecutors argue that her actions were deliberate and planned, pointing to the takeout errand that left her alone with the children, her internet searches, and the method used in the killings. Her defense presents a dramatically different account: that Lindsay was suffering from postpartum psychosis, hallucinations, medication complications, and a possible undiagnosed bipolar disorder after repeatedly seeking psychiatric help. Was this an intentional act of murder, or the catastrophic result of a severe mental-health crisis that went unrecognized despite months of warning signs? We explore Lindsay’s documented mental-health decline in anticipation of her trial that begins Monday, July 20th, the prosecution’s evidence, the defense’s claims that the medical system failed the entire Clancy family, and the difficult questions surrounding mental illness, criminal responsibility, and postpartum psychiatric care. This episode discusses the deaths of children, suicide, and severe postpartum mental illness. Listener discretion is strongly advised.
