    The Other Lehigh Valley Family Murders: Jeffrey Howorth Killed His Parents Days After the Freemans

    Just days after the Freeman brothers murdered their parents in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, another local family was destroyed by an eerily similar crime. On March 2, 1995, George and Susan Howorth returned to their quiet suburban home after work. Police say that before they could even take off their coats, their 16-year-old son, Jeffrey Howorth, opened fire. George was shot five times. Susan was shot nine times. By the time Jeffrey’s older brother arrived home, both parents were dead—and Jeffrey had vanished. Prosecutors argued that the murders were planned: Jeffrey allegedly waited for his parents, left behind a note, fled the state, and carried weapons while attempting to escape. His attorneys argued that he was experiencing a severe psychological breakdown and could not understand the nature or wrongfulness of his actions.     DEEP DIVE - Lindsay Clancy: Mental Illness or Maternal Filicide?

    She was a respected labor and delivery nurse, a devoted wife, and a mother of three young children. But on January 24, 2023, an unimaginable tragedy unfolded inside the Clancy family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts home. In this episode, we examine the case of Lindsay Clancy, who is accused of killing her children—five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan—before attempting to take her own life. As Lindsay’s trial approaches, prosecutors argue that her actions were deliberate and planned, pointing to the takeout errand that left her alone with the children, her internet searches, and the method used in the killings. Her defense presents a dramatically different account: that Lindsay was suffering from postpartum psychosis, hallucinations, medication complications, and a possible undiagnosed bipolar disorder after repeatedly seeking psychiatric help. Was this an intentional act of murder, or the catastrophic result of a severe mental-health crisis that went unrecognized despite months of warning signs?     On May 7, 1998, 23-year-old Wharton graduate student Shannon Schieber was found murdered inside her Philadelphia apartment after failing to show up for work.
