Randy Flores Introductory Press Conference - 11-2-26

The Houston Astros officially introduced Randy Flores as their new general manager on Monday at Daikin Park, ushering in a new era for the franchise under owner Jim Crane. The 51-year-old Flores becomes the 15th general manager in Astros history, replacing Dana Brown, who was dismissed in August. Flores arrives from the St. Louis Cardinals, where he spent the past eight seasons as assistant general manager overseeing amateur and professional player acquisition, following his initial hiring as director of scouting in 2015. A former Major League pitcher who spent eight seasons in the big leagues, Flores brings extensive experience in scouting, player development and talent evaluation. Crane praised Flores' track record in St. Louis and expressed confidence in his ability to help bring another World Series championship to Houston. Flores inherits an Astros organization facing several major decisions heading into the 2027 season. Despite winning the American League West in 2026, Houston finished just 81-81 before being swept by the Chicago White Sox in the Wild Card Series. One of Flores' first priorities will be hiring a new manager after the team elected not to renew Joe Espada's contract. He'll also need to address concerns surrounding the starting rotation, outfield production and a farm system that has struggled to replenish the big-league roster. With established stars like Yordan Alvarez, Jose Altuve, Jeremy Peña and Hunter Brown still in place, the Astros aren't looking for a complete rebuild. Instead, Flores faces the challenge of retooling an aging roster, developing the next generation of talent and keeping Houston in championship contention.
