Ep 28- Could You Pass The HSC As An Adult? (With Odette)

As students around the country sit their final school exams, you might be reminded of your own time in high school wondering whether you’ve improved your knowledge since. Now that you’ve got a few more years under your belt, do you actually know any more about English? Or Science? Or Business? That is the question I tried to answer in today’s episode as I reunited with my high school teacher Mr Sargent to re-do my HSC! With absolutely no studying in the lead up, could I complete HSC questions at a passable level? Or would it be revealed that I really did peak in high school? Also on the show you will meet musician Odette whose album Blink comes out on Friday 6th November! As she prepares to take the album on a headline tour, Odette stopped by to chat to me about her earliest musical memories, her own high school experience, and most pressingly- Halloween!  GET IN TOUCH Have a story you need to share? Ep 27- Inner West Locals… I Have Some Bad News For You (With Ivan Aristeguieta)

The metro extension is almost ready, with tests being completed and signage being replaced. So in anticipation, I went out to Sydenham with Juliet Timmerman to see how the vibes were ahead of the big day! Unfortunately though, all was not as it seemed, and Jet completely opened my eyes to the disaster waiting to happen in the area.  It’s not all doom and gloom this week though, with absolute bundle of joy Ivan Aristeguieta joining me over Zoom to chat about his life since moving to Australia from his home country, Venezuela, the superstitions that have brought him so much success in comedy, and why despite all his hard work he’s still not the funniest person in his family! We also fulfil our obligation to Chris Minns and talk about the traffic in Sydney. But by far the headline news for this week is the second iteration (in as many months!) of the Blacktown Family Fish In. The event that captured hearts and minds of Sydney Tonight listeners a few weeks ago is back, hoping to make up for the anti-climax of the first run. With new fish, new conditions, and warmer weather, will Connie, Shaun, and everybody else from Blacktown Council be able to make things work?! BONUS- How Much Does It Cost To Travel Across The World Without Flying?

Teresa and Dennis know! They are three years into a journey from their home in Munich, Germany to Australia and have budgeted for it almost perfectly. It's a journey that they are attempting to complete ONLY using public transport and right now they find themselves in Indonesia waiting for a boat to bring them across the Timor Sea, concluding the trip that they started back in 2023. This was the third time I've spoken with Teresa and Dennis (Human Travel Stories) and by far the most exciting, because they are so close to making it here! Listen in to hear what they've been up to in the last few months, how they potentially started a global travel trend, and what the actual cost is to go on a trip this massive. BONUS- Darren Gilshenan's Secret To Meeting Girls

When he was a younger man just beginning his acting career, Darren Gilshenan sought the advice of an older classmate when he was struggling to meet as many girls as his peers. And while the answer he got didn't seem that encouraging at the time, I think it's underrated! Almost as much as being gregarious! In this bonus episode you'll hear the full conversation between myself and one of the absolute LOVELIEST people I've had the pleasure of speaking to, actor Darren Gilshenan (The Moody's, No Activity, Colin From Accounts). Darren lived in Sydney for many many years and shares what he's noticed change about the city in that time, as well as what he prefers now that he has moved up to Queensland. I love Darren Gilshenan! Ep 26- Have You Also Been Betrayed By The Ashfield Polish Club? (With Darren Gilshenan)

All I wanted to do was win a game of trivia. But when I arrived at the Polish Club in Ashfield to do just that (alongside a team of strangers that I hard sourced on the internet) things went very wrong, very quickly… And don't really know how! In lighter news, you’ll also meet two Germans who are attempting to reach Australia using only public transport! They left their home in Munich more than three years ago now and are so close to reaching our shores (just in time for music festival season). I caught up with Teresa and Dennis (Human Travel Stories on Instagram) to see how their journey is going so far and hear all of their best stories from life on the road!  And finally, you’ll hear from actor Darren Gilshenan (The Moody’s, No Activity) as we reflect on his long career across both stage and screen. I’ve been watching Darren’s work for many years now and was very excited to hear about everything from his work with Patrick Brammell (Colin From Accounts, The Devil Wears Prada 2) to his incredibly impressive moustache!  HELP MAKE SYDNEY TONIGHT BETTER Pretty please, could you fill out this form to help us make this show as good as it possibly can be? BONUS- Avoid Running Whenever You Can (With Guneet Kaur)

When she's not performing her "whip sharp" comedy on stages across the city, Guneet Kaur will NEVER be found running in marathons, fun runs, or anything in between. Because what's the point?! A long walk though, that's a different story... Guneet and I didn't just chat about the different forms of cardio exercise that she does and doesn't do. We also unpacked her history of accidents, the connotations of being described as "sharp", and her tips for getting the best out of an op shop. You can catch Guneet's show Sharper at the Sydney Fringe Festival on the 19th and 20th September at the Factory Theatre. Ep 25- Build A Halal Snack Pack And I'll Guess Which Part Of Sydney You’re From (With Guneet Kaur)

Are you getting chicken? Beef? Lamb? A horrific mix of all three that would make God turn his back on humanity? These are the important, hard hitting questions that Buzzfeed asked us in 2017 and now, almost 10 years on, I am putting them to you. Or at least, to comedians John Glover and Andy Procopis as they join me in the studio to talk about their upcoming show at the Comedy Store, Singlet Comedians!  Also on the show tonight, comedian Guneet Kaur drops by to chat about her show Sharper which will be on at the Factory Theatre next weekend! Guneet is, by her own admission, relatively “accident prone” and we dive into her top flops and falls of all time, which was really vulnerable of her to share in hindsight. This was technically the second interview I did with Guneet after she came in previously only to find that the microphones were simply not connected, so we are running it back a second time tonight and I think we are all the better for it! And finally, in headline news: It’s Perfectly Normal And Good For It To Be This Hot In September Probably! Yes, we are only a couple of days into Spring and yes, the temperature has already climbed over the 30 degree mark on more than one occasion, but why would that be cause for concern? Maybe in a month or two when the country is riddled with bushfires and the sun is burning anybody who dares step outside, but for now, it’s perfect beach weather!! Yippee! But as people flock to the ocean, the lifeguards from Bondi Rescue are having to bring forward the shooting of their upcoming season, and new recruits are being thrown into the deep end as they learn the ropes. This week on Sydney Tonight, I’ve got an exclusive clip from an upcoming episode of Sydney’s favourite show about English people getting caught in rips, and it’s not one to miss! (A big thank you to Gorse who created this sketch for their show at ITS and generously allowed me to play it on the show because I thought it was so funny).  HELP MAKE SYDNEY TONIGHT BETTER Pretty please, could you fill out this form to help us make this show as good as it possibly can be?
